Chapter 110 Weird Magical Beasts
Harry took advantage of the chaos to punch Flint in the stomach and struggled to crawl out of the crowd.
His face was also bruised, his nose was bleeding, and the right lens of his glasses was broken.
Hermione's reminder made him realize that if he waited for the professor to come, he would probably have to serve three detentions in two days, one by speeding to school, one for being framed by Filch because of a dead rat in the corridor, and one for getting involved in a brawl.
Ron also crawled out, with blood at the corner of his mouth, but it looked like he was enjoying the fight.
The others were still full of energy and didn't seem to have any intention of stopping - the Weasley brothers seemed only interested in breaking Flint's legs before the professor arrived.
"Let's go." Coin cast a repairing charm at Harry's glasses. "It'll save Gryffindor at least two hundred points—if Gryffindor still has two hundred points left after deducting three hundred points from six people."
Cohen saw Professor McGonagall running across the field quickly and pulling the three of them away.
"If you ask me, they can't beat the Gryffindor team even if they have the best brooms." On the way to Hagrid's hut to avoid the limelight, Ron rubbed the corners of his swollen mouth and said hatefully, "Especially Malfoy, he's no match for Harry!"
"We both know that, Ron." Hermione handed tissues to both Ron and Harry, "but fighting doesn't solve anything."
"I think you should just curse them seven times," Cohen said. "Fighting will also deduct points, and cursing classmates will also deduct points. Why not use a method that makes you feel better--"
"Cohen!" Hermione interrupted Cohen's joking suggestion with great seriousness.
"At least this way we won't get hit by fists..." Harry strongly agreed with Cohen's suggestion.
They arrived at the door of Hagrid's hut, and Hagrid was a little surprised by the injuries on Harry and Ron's faces.
"Are you guys having a fight?" Hagrid asked, frowning. "It's normal for friends to have conflicts—but there's no need to—"
"It wasn't us!" Harry said hastily. "It was those people from the Slytherin team..."
Harry and Ron finished talking about what had happened.
"Oh..." Hagrid's frown relaxed, "That's good - I thought you were having a quarrel - you know, I'm not good at talking, and I don't know which side I can help you on..."
"At least I didn't get another detention from Professor McGonagall," Harry sighed. "I might not even have time to go out tomorrow. Besides the car thing, we also have a detention with Filch."
"We all did," said Hermione miserably, "but it's not our fault at all! Those two rats had nothing to do with us!"
"Rats?" Hagrid asked curiously. "There shouldn't be many rats in the castle, right? Anyway, I don't usually hear students complain about rats. I don't know how Mrs. Norris, with just one cat, can catch all the rats in the castle..."
Because there is a basilisk eating mice!
Cohen raised an eyebrow.
They had nothing to hide from Hagrid, and Hagrid thought what Coin and Harry had witnessed was probably a student's prank.
"When I was in school, people would write on the walls too—using red paint to make it look like blood, which was cool—" Hagrid recalled, but his face was not good, "But I didn't go to school for long..."
"That's not cool at all." Hermione frowned. "It's too weird. I always feel like there's something wrong." "Speaking of weird things..." Hagrid said suddenly, "There's also some weird things happening in the forest. The Thestrals I raised are starting to get a little disobedient. They're wandering around the forest separately - they used to stay together..."
"Thestrals?" Harry heard the new term.
"If you hadn't come here by flying car, you would have encountered them." Hermione said, "A kind of invisible magical animal. Cohen introduced it to me, and I went to look up information later."
"Only people who have seen death can see them, and my mother said it was ominous--" Ron said in surprise, but was interrupted by Hagrid.
"That's outsider prejudice," Hagrid corrected. "Thestrals are wonderful creatures, not a bad omen at all."
But Hagrid's words about "wonderful creatures" were obviously not very credible - at least not in the ears of Harry and Ron, because they knew that Hagrid had a special liking for dangerous and huge creatures.
"They won't hurt anyone, will they?" Hermione asked worriedly. "They are 4X magical creatures listed by the Ministry of Magic..."
"The Thestrals at Hogwarts have all been trained by me. They won't hurt anyone," Hagrid assured, patting his chest. "You'll find that as long as they have a stable food source, a stable group life, and a little companionship, they will become extremely docile..."
Hagrid was likely the only person in Britain who had domesticated a large number of Thestrals, and Coin trusted him.
But the strange behavior of the Thestrals...does it have anything to do with me?
Cohen didn't remember such a plot in the original novel, and it was also strange that the Thestral pulling the carriage suddenly stuck its tongue out at him at the beginning of the school year...
It would be great if they could talk—perhaps horses could communicate with each other? Cohen wondered if he should go to the unicorns and ask about the situation.
"Do you want to go see Norbert?" Hagrid suggested excitedly after the topic was over. "I've raised a whole bunch of dwarf pig monsters for him! He's growing really fast now, I guess he'll reach adult size this year!"
Harry, Ron, and Hermione couldn't even imagine how they would face a grown dragon—they all declined the invitation, and Cohen wasn't very interested in Norbert either. After a whole summer of watching him, even the most interesting creature would get boring.
They stayed with Hagrid for a long time and didn't go back until almost lunchtime.
Hagrid prepared several herbs for Harry and Ron, all of which had a strange smell - but they worked well, and they looked no more like they had been beaten.
"Thank you, Hagrid," Harry said thankfully, "otherwise we would have been caught by Professor McGonagall for sure - I wonder if she would still suspect us of being involved in the fight."
As luck would have it, they ran into Professor McGonagall just as they returned to the castle.
Harry didn't even change his clothes, but he got away with it by saying he was just being lazy and skipping training.
"It's not nice to skip practice, Potter," said Professor McGonagall sternly. "But it's a good thing you weren't on the Quidditch pitch today - your teammates got into a vicious brawl, and I suspect if you were all there, I'd have to take away all the remaining 100-odd points from Gryffindor."
"I wouldn't do that," Harry said guiltily. He still smelled of herbs - he had the feeling that Professor McGonagall actually knew the truth, but had no evidence.
