Demon Hunter: I have a red gourd

Chapter 42 Hello, Vizima

Chapter 42 Hello, Vizima
Seven days later.

Ivan and Philip pulled the reins hard, and the horses neighed and came to a steady stop. They raised their heads and looked at the magnificent city in the distance.

Vizima, the capital of Temeria, is also the largest city in Temeria.

Like a bright pearl, it sits quietly on the shores of Lake Vizima in the valley of the Ismina River, a tributary of the Pontar River. The sunlight pours down, the lake shimmers, and the city itself reflects the city.

"What a beautiful city!" Philip exclaimed. "It's simply impossible to take your eyes off it. I heard it was built on the foundations of ancient elven ruins. No wonder it exudes such a unique beauty."

Ivan nodded in agreement.

The humans in the Demon Hunter world are not indigenous people, but outsiders who came through the intersection of the celestial spheres.

About five hundred years ago, they drifted across the ocean and arrived on this continent. Soon, some of their leaders discovered the existence of chaos energy and quickly studied and mastered the use of chaos energy, or magic.

After hundreds of years of reproduction and development, humans quickly became prosperous and powerful. They then launched invasions into other areas, conquered the territories of the elves, and forced the dwarves back into the caves of the Mahakam Mountains.

Subsequently, the legendary warlock Cosimo Malaspina and his apprentice Arzu created and conducted a shocking mutation experiment, which eventually led to the birth of the Demon Hunter.

Thanks to the unremitting efforts of the demon hunters, almost all large monsters were wiped out, creating more space for humans to survive. Because of this, humans eventually completely controlled this world and became the true rulers of this continent.

The elves were completely unable to resist the attacks of humans. As humans expanded, they continued to lose land and cities, until their territory was almost completely occupied.

The last group of free elves retreated to the Blue Mountains, and the rest of the elves either chose to surrender and merge with the human population; or hid in the vast mountains and wilderness, and still secretly resist human rule to this day.

After humans occupied the land of the elves, they did not destroy the ruins and cities they built. Instead, they appreciated the elves' unique aesthetics and built more magnificent cities based on these ruins.

Vizima is one such city, and in fact, most of the capitals of the northern kingdoms are based on elven ruins.

However, there is no need to feel unfair for the elves. Like humans, they came to this continent because of the convergence of the celestial spheres, but they arrived a few hundred years earlier than humans.

Before the elves and humans, the true natives of this continent were goblins, also known as dwarfs.

Their current state reveals the elves' methods—they are almost extinct and hard to find. Even warlocks and demon hunters who have lived for hundreds of years may never have seen a true goblin.

The elves were far more brutal than humans, who were like docile sheep in comparison. They committed a true genocide against the goblins, nearly wiping out this ancient race from the world.

After admiring the magnificent city for a while, Philip waved his hand, signaling his companions to enter Vizima with him.

Of the twelve-member guard team that came with him, only five remain. The rest have chosen to stay in Velen and continue working for Baron Veserad.

When the group approached the city, two soldiers holding halberds blocked their way.

They wore heavy mail, and at their hips hung short swords and small shields, both emblazoned with silver lilies, the emblem of Temeria.

"Stop! Get off your horse and be inspected." One of the blond soldiers shouted coldly, his sharp eyes constantly scanning the people on horseback, especially lingering for a long time on the two swords and cat pupils behind Ivan.

Philip jumped off the horse without hesitation. Seeing his actions, Ivan also jumped off without hesitation.

"Each of you carries a weapon. What are you doing in Vizima?" the blond soldier asked coldly, motioning to another soldier to check their bodies for contraband. "We're all from Velen, and we've come to Vizima to join the army and fight for Temeria!" Phillip pounded his chest and spoke firmly. "We've received an invitation from Commander Vernon Roche to join his squad."

"Oh?" A look of surprise appeared on the blond soldier's face. "Do you have any proof?"

Philip took out a letter from his pocket and handed it over. The soldier took the letter, carefully examined the seal on it, and then nodded, as if he believed what he said.

"What about this guy?" After seeing the seal, his tone softened. He pointed at Ivan standing beside him and said, "There seems to be something wrong with your eyes. Could you have contracted some infectious disease?"

"Sir, Ivan is a demon hunter from the Griffin School and one of our companions. His eyes are naturally like this," Philip hurriedly explained. "However, he's not here to join the army. He has his own things to do."

"Witcher?" The blond soldier stared at Ivan suspiciously for a while, as if thinking.

He was about to say something, but after taking a look at the letter in his hand, he swallowed his words back.

"Well, since you are together, I will trust you for now. Demon Hunter, please be careful and don't cause any trouble in the city."

"Although you may become my colleagues soon," the blond soldier returned the letter to Philip, then swept his sharp eyes over the crowd and said calmly, "but according to convention, I still need to check your luggage to ensure there are no contraband."

Another soldier opened Philip and the others' luggage bags one by one in order, checked them carefully, and after confirming that there was no problem, he nodded to the blond soldier.

When it was Ivan's turn, the blond soldier came over himself and his eyes fell on the huge leather bag on the horse behind him.

"Would you mind if I checked it out?"

"Of course no problem." Ivan shrugged, took off the leather bag and handed it to him.

The blond soldier untied the leather bag and took out the items inside one by one.

"What is this?" He first took out a dozen small brown bottles, and the liquid in the bottles swayed gently in his hands.

"This is our witcher's potion. It can enhance our physical strength, but it is highly toxic to ordinary people."

The blond soldier frowned, continued to rummage, and then took out a bunch of strange-looking biological organs.

"These are all materials from monsters," Ivan continued patiently, "including the tongue of a water ghost, the venom glands of a scissor-tailed dragon, the feathers of a griffin, and so on. Some can be used for alchemy, and some can be used as jewelry. But be careful, some of these items may be poisonous."

The blond soldier frowned and looked down from time to time, as if trying to determine whether the nature of these items was as Ivan said.

Finally, he found a small bag that was wrapped unusually tightly at the bottom of the leather bag. After opening it, some grayish-white powder was revealed.

"What is this?" He asked with a hint of caution. "I must remind you that anesthetic powder is illegal in Temeria and is absolutely not allowed to be brought into Vizima."

"Wait, that's not anesthetic powder!" The blond soldier moved so quickly that Ivan had no time to stop him. He could only watch as he put a little powder on his finger and put it into his mouth.
