Chapter 73 Bilbo's First Loot
The ogre named "William" only had time to hold his face and scream, and the next second, the sword flashed like lightning.

Accompanied by a silver light, Millicent appeared silently behind William like a ghost.

William's screams stopped abruptly, and his huge bald head separated from his fat and huge body and fell smoothly to the ground.

At the same time, the other ogre, Tom, seemed to have not yet realized that his companion had died tragically. He even pointed at Millicent and said stupidly, "Hey, William, this little human female actually cut off your head. It's so funny."

“Oooooohhhh!!!”

Filiqili let out a war cry, and the beast prayer [Beast Stone] was cast out. Several sharp pieces of gravel hit Tom's eyes, making him cover his eyes and cry out in pain.

"You little dwarfs have offended me!" Tom covered his eyes and fumbled for the sword at his waist, waving it around wildly.

Bilbo picked up a small stone from the ground and threw it at the person, shouting, "Hey, here I am!"

The small stone hit Tom's hairless bald head accurately. He covered his eyes and swung his sword, which was longer than the dwarf's, in the direction of Bilbo's voice.

But Tom didn't know that Bilbo had already slipped away on his big hairy feet, and the back of the stupid ogre was exposed to Fili and Kili.

"drink!"

Fili quickly ran under Tom, and the beast's prayer [Beast Claw] appeared, and the sharp claws cut off the ogre's two calves.

Tom's body was like a puppet whose support had been pulled out. His huge body tilted backward unsteadily, and the sand and soil on the ground splashed everywhere as he fell.

The ogre blinked rapidly a few times with his only remaining bright eyes, and through his blurred vision, he saw Philip nimbly move to the side and was not pinned under him.

After falling to the ground, Tom forced himself to open his non-blind eye again, only to see another dwarf.

Qili had a provocative smile on his lips, the bow in his hand was already drawn, and an arrow was condensed with a cold light like moonlight, ready to be released.

Time seemed to freeze, all movements merged into a series of still images, until Kili loosened his fingers and the arrow, like an arrow released from a bow, cut through the air and pierced Tom's head with unerring accuracy, taking the ogre's life.

"yeah!!"

When Philip saw his brother finished the harvest, he rolled over and stood up, waving his fists and shouting excitedly.

Kili did the same, running over to his brother and bumping fists with him.

Only then did Tanes come out from the surrounding woods, with a staff on his waist. It was obvious that the fireball was his masterpiece.

He smiled and clapped his hands, "Excellent cooperation, Fili, Kili. You have made excellent use of Beast Prayer in actual combat."

Fili and Qili both smiled happily and bowed deeply to Tanes: "All this is thanks to you and Teacher Bernard's teachings!"

Tanis nodded, then looked at Bilbo who was looking over at him from the other side, and said with a smile: "Of course, you two should not forget Bilbo's cooperation. It was he who attracted the attention of the ogre, which made your surprise attack plan a success."

Fili said: "Of course, we won't forget!"

Then the two dwarves rushed up to Bilbo and cheered him so much that the hobbit felt a little embarrassed.

Tanis smiled and asked Bilbo, who was being pulled by Fili and Kili to celebrate, "How do you feel, Bilbo?"

Bilbo, who had been grinning along with his dwarf brothers, froze for a moment and said hesitantly, "What...feeling?"

Tanes shrugged and smiled, "Of course it's the adventurous feeling after defeating a seemingly invincible enemy. How about it? Can you feel your heart beating wildly?"

Bilbo touched his chest and realized that even through the thick clothes, he could still hear his heart beating "bang bang".

When he had just attracted the ogre's attention, he had been extremely nervous.

But now Bilbo felt as if he were very excited for some reason, and it was this excitement that made him laugh foolishly along with Fili and Kili.

Tanis nodded his lips and finally said, "You can't hide the smile on your lips, Bilbo. Remember this feeling. I hope you will enjoy adventures."

Bilbo nodded somewhat confusedly. Although he had no idea what Tanes meant by this, it did not affect his joyful and excited mood at the moment.

However, he still felt a little unreal and said unsurely, "But I only threw a few stones at the ogre. It was Fili and Kili who actually killed it. Does that count as me helping?"

Tanes said, "You should ask Fili and Kili what they think."

Qili said immediately, "Of course you deserve some credit, Master Snitch! Those stones you threw were very accurate, even more accurate than Fili's throwing knives!"

Fili coughed loudly and said with a smile, "Well, it's actually as accurate as my throwing knives. I saw with my own eyes that a stone hit the ogre's nostrils."

Kili ignored Fili's explanation and nodded. "Yes, I will explain to Thorin in detail when we get back. Hiring Bilbo Baggins as a thief for the Lonely Mountain Expedition is definitely worth it!"

Tanis smiled as he watched Bilbo's flattered expression, then he realized that someone seemed to be missing.

He looked at Millicent, who was untying the horses from the tree trunks and gently soothing the frightened creatures.

"Millicent, have you seen Gandalf?" Tanis asked.

Millicent raised her head and replied gently, "After the battle, he went deeper into the forest. Now I don't know where he went. But we shouldn't worry about him. Judging from the surroundings, there should only be these three ogres."

The grass behind Bilbo, Fili and Kili swayed, and Gandalf's pointed wizard hat poked out from it, revealing his old and wise face.

His voice just happened to ring out at this moment, and he said with a smile, "Of course you don't have to worry about me, Ms. Millicent. And I think you should come with me to take a look. Trolls are afraid of sunlight, so there must be caves nearby where they hide from the sun. I just found these troll caves, and there are a lot of good things in them."

Tanes' eyes lit up. He loved this part of collecting spoils the most.

So he walked quickly forward, and as he passed Bilbo, he patted him on the shoulder happily: "Come on, Bilbo, and let us enjoy the joy of winning the spoils of battle together."

The troll's cave was not far away, and they arrived there in just a few minutes.

The cave was hidden in the heart of a small curved hillside, surrounded by wild grass. Beside the cave entrance, a piece of cloth that smelled like rotting meat was carelessly discarded, with dried brown spots stuck on it. It was obviously used by the trolls to block the cave entrance and the sunlight.

Gandalf reached out and touched his staff, making the light from the tip of the staff shine brighter.

"This is it," he said, and Tanes and the others all walked in. The interior of the cave was dark and damp, with human and animal bones scattered on the ground, and a disgusting stench filled the air.

But what surprised Tanes was that there were shelves in the ogre's cave.

His eyes fell on the simple shelves deep in the cave, which were piled with all kinds of food: shriveled fruits, dried meat strips, moldy bread and broken cans, and he didn't know what unlucky guys they were looted from.

Added to this was a miscellany of stolen goods, ranging from brass buttons to jars full of gold coins in one corner.

There were also a lot of clothes hanging randomly on the wall, but it was obvious that these clothes were too small for the trolls. They were probably the clothes of the victims.

Gandalf and Bilbo were rummaging through the shelves aimlessly, occasionally stepping carefully over the skulls left by humans on the ground.

As for Millicent, she did not come in, for someone had to look after the horses that had been rescued with such difficulty.

After discovering the jars of gold coins, Fili and Kili perked up and no longer felt that the troll's cave was smelly. They grinned and started to move the jars out of the corner.

Tanes ran straight into the ogre's house with a sharp gaze. His sharp eyes made him notice that something was reflecting light there.

My treasure hunting intuition never deceives me. It must be something good, not some strange mushroom or forging stone!

Bilbo felt a little bored. Although Fili and Kili were counting the gold coins excitedly, he had no interest in the gold.

Therefore, Tanis's action directly attracted Bilbo's attention, causing him to ask: "Tannis, have you found anything?"

All that could be heard was the crisp sound of metal colliding from Tanes's side, and then Tanes's excited voice came: "I really found something good! Look, these swords!"

He walked quickly out of the shadowy corner, holding several well-made swords of various shapes and sizes in his arms.

In the light of Gandalf's staff, the two swords were particularly eye-catching - they were covered with gorgeous scabbards, and the gems inlaid on the hilts still sparkled brightly even though they were covered with dust.

Bilbo's eyes widened. "Oh, these swords don't look like troll swords."

Gandalf also came over with a look of surprise, and with a light wave of his staff, the dust on the swords was swept away.

He looked at the swords in Tanes' arms with a nostalgic look, and pulled out one of the two special swords. He said, "And they are definitely not made by humans. These swords come from Gondolin, forged by the High Elves in the First Age."

Tanes put down the other swords and picked up the special one. "High Elf? This sword is as sharp as some of the legendary weapons from my homeland."

Gandalf smiled and shook his head, "Of course not. Lord Elrond was born in the Second Age."

He said, returning the sword to Tanes.

Tanes said curiously, "I thought you would be interested in this sword."

Gandalf smiled and patted the ceremonial sword hanging at his waist. "Oh, if I hadn't had these two swords you gave me, I would definitely ask you for a weapon to defend myself. But now, another sword is too much for me."

Tanes shrugged and kept one of the swords to give to Millicent outside.

Then he said to Bilbo, Fili, and Kili, "How will you divide it?"

Fili and Kili shook their heads together. Fili said, "Teacher Bernal has given us a useful longsword."

Then he rolled his eyes, gave Bilbo a nudge, and pushed him toward the swords, saying, "Let Bilbo choose. He should have the first choice of his first spoils."

Bilbo hadn't expected this and pointed at himself: "Me?"

Tanis nodded, "Yes, you deserve it, Bilbo."

Bilbo then squeezed his hands and said, "Well, in that case, I'll choose this sword."

He did not choose the remaining jeweled sword, but a small knife in a leather sheath, just the right size for a hobbit.

Bilbo placed the knife beside the brass short blade Tanis had given him, and patted them with satisfaction.

Gandalf added, "The swords of the Elves glow blue when they encounter Orcs or Goblins. Then you must take heed, my good Hobbit."

Bilbo blinked in understanding.

Tanes put the remaining swords back into the space backpack, took the sword he had chosen for Millicent in his hand, and walked out of the ogre's cave.

"Millicent, this sword is good, would you like to try it?" After Tanes went out, he saw Millicent outside and threw the sword in his hand with the scabbard over.

Millicent raised her prosthetic hand to catch it, a look of slight surprise on her face. "It's so light."

Then she grasped the hilt of the sword with her other hand and pulled it out, revealing the silver blade inside and the runes on it.

She swung the sword a few times, then sheathed it with satisfaction. "Thanks, Tanes, this sword is really nice. I wish I knew its name."

"It has runes upon it," said Gandalf. "Perhaps Lord Elrond himself will explain its marvelous origins to you when we reach Rivendell."

Millicent nodded.

At this time, a hint of dawn had just appeared in the sky, and the faint light of dawn spread like a thin thread in the east.

"Let's go back. It's getting late. Thorin and the others should be getting ready to get up." Gandalf said, looking up at the slightly bright sky.

After Tanes and the others left, the ogre's corpse was exposed to the sunlight, emitting white smoke and a sizzling sound.

Their corpses turned into the materials they were made of, turning into a pile of harmless rocks.

These ogre-like stones lay alone on the ground, with only birds perching on them.

As the sun continued to rise, light and shadow danced on the edges of the stones, casting mottled shadows. Perhaps only people who occasionally passed by would be surprised by these strangely shaped stones.

Thorin has the Frostshell Axe, so I confiscated his sword (fog)
  Now Bilbo has two daggers.)
