Chapter 598 Dislocation Map
On the Leviathan continent, an unknown plain.
In the humid morning mist, there was a camp half buried in the earth at the bottom of a small hill.
Swade shook the moldy sheepskin map, water dripping down his beard onto the yellowed markings. "According to our itinerary..." He frowned, staring at the rusted needle. "Black Pine Outpost should be ahead, the border outpost of the Kingdom of Kurowa."
In fact, he didn't know what the Kurowa Kingdom was like. There was only a mark on the map saying there was such a kingdom. It looked like the area was not very large, it could only be said to be a small country.
Lisa Lisa stood on tiptoe and breathed on his shoulder: "Mr. First Mate, are you sure you are not looking at the menu?" The lace edge of her red skirt was covered with dust and some grass leaves, but even so, she was still as elegant as if she was standing in an opera box.
Of course, once she takes action, she is as rough as can be.
"If you're starving, go dig up some roots and stuff them in your mouth. Don't bother me here. If we take the wrong road, it will be a disaster. If we run into the territory of the ratmen—ha, I hope they can eat quickly."
Faced with Swade's lack of understanding of romance, Lisa Lisa just rolled her eyes, reached out and touched Swade's round muscles twice, then lifted her skirt, twisted her waist and walked away.
After determining the direction to go and making sure he was not going the wrong way, Swade picked up the wooden stick next to him and knocked on the stone.
"Let's go! Let's go before we starve to death."
The others also carried cloth bags containing simple items, supported them with wooden poles, and followed Swade slowly.
Toby rubbed his stomach and looked very hungry. After all, the food was gone.
He couldn't help but complain, "Is this the disaster caused by the ratmen? There's not even any edible weeds to be found along the way. Are they some kind of pests?"
"Maybe they are just pests that just look like mice. That's not impossible, isn't it?" Lisa Lisa joked as she walked.
Toby glanced at her with disdain. "You ignorant, evil woman! A rat-man is nothing more than a giant rat standing up. What else could it be but a rat?"
"Tsk, it's just knowing a few words, what's the big deal? You can still hang out with us." Lisa Lisa snorted, ignored him, quickened her pace and moved closer to Swade.
"Hehe, I didn't expect you to know all this. It seems that I did the right thing by not killing and eating you." The old man walked aside and threatened.
Toby rolled his eyes. "It was more than enough that you scared me like that when I first came aboard, but it's no fun now."
As they talked, they walked forward on this desolate plain, as if only the sun was moving with them.
A few hours later, Toby kicked open half of a rotten wooden door, startling a flock of scavenging birds. "Is this the supply point?" the young man asked, kicking the charred beams and picking out half of a rat skull from the ashes.
They followed the map and finally arrived here.
However, what we see before us is a desolate and ruined scene, which is not the tragic scene just after the war.
Rather, they are traces left behind by gradual decline over a long period of time.
This is the only place among the many outposts that looks barely usable, but in fact it is already in disrepair and looks like it will collapse at any time.
Old Man Tavo tapped the burned-down watchtower with his pipe. "This is a gunpowder formula from seventy years ago. The smell of sulfur is mixed with whale oil."
The old man crushed the dirt with the toe of his boot, revealing dark brown crystals. He turned to look at Swade, whose expression was a little grim, and said with a smile, "It seems that this map is about the same age as my dentures."
Suddenly, Zahanu pulled out a dagger, and with a flash of cold light, it swept across everyone's throats - it turned out that he was cutting off the vines that were attacking him.
The way the scarred man shook off the leaves said more than the words he said today.
He rarely told a joke: "It seems there are still living things here, right?" The hoarse voice really didn't make people feel the slightest bit of humor.
"Don't waste it. We can eat a few bites of this thing, but it doesn't taste very good." The old man smiled and picked up the vines that were wriggling like worms from the ground.
Toby and Lisa Lisa were both disgusted, but to stay alive, they had no choice but to endure the strange smell and gnaw on the food. At least it provided a bit of moisture. "Cheer up!" Swade slammed the map against a tree trunk, shaking off a few fluorescent beetles. "The next marked point is a small town that supplies goods to the port. Maybe we can find rum and..." Before he could finish his words, his stomach rumbled at the perfect moment.
In desperation, he could only shut up and tear the vine nodes in his hands.
It’s better to talk less now.
With a feeling of loss, everyone walked through the ruins that had been abandoned for who knows how many years.
"This is simply unbelievable. How old is this map?"
After all, this was once a border watchtower, and it seems to cover a considerable area.
Under normal circumstances, the power of a kingdom would not give up this place easily, and would at least develop it into a town.
It seems that this place was destroyed after the ravages of war and has never been rebuilt after the war.
When the second ruins came into view, Lisa Lisa's red coral hairpin almost fell into the mud pit.
Because there were finally some signs of biological activity around, it was no longer a desolate, silent and lifeless scene.
As they walked along this gravel path that was obviously built by someone, they saw a wooden sign indicating that they were about to reach their destination.
However, the wooden sign had already broken and fallen to the ground, and it was burned black by the flames, so no words could be seen.
Rows of wooden stakes were pierced with dried rat-man skulls.
"Are we on a battlefield?" Toby asked worriedly.
Zahanu glanced at him and said, "Relax, boy, this is not the way the battlefield works. Those ratmen are so hungry that they have eaten all the bark on the ground. How could they give up this town so easily?" As he said that, he picked up a skull, fiddled with it for a few times, and then kicked it away.
As the entire town came into view, disappointment, irritability, and fatigue from the journey instantly flooded everyone's hearts.
"Damn it, Poseidon bless you! This town is ruined!" Toby cursed angrily.
He had originally walked here with great expectations, but he saw neither the townspeople nor any living creatures, let alone any edible food or drinkable water.
All he saw before him was a dark mass of collapsed buildings and bare bones scattered everywhere.
There were also broken weapons and traces of battle everywhere.
It was obvious that the town had long been reduced to ashes in the war.
"Let's go in and take a look. Maybe those rats have left something for us," said Swade.
Now was not the time to give up. He didn't want to just wait for death. He had come here with the full intention of joining the Night's Watch, but instead of even meeting the Night's Watch, he was starving and dying of thirst. It was a truly humiliating death.
Toby opened his mouth but remained silent. The others, though somewhat disappointed, seemed to be in a relatively good mood.
There was no complaining, no noise, and Lisa Lisa even laughed and told some jokes, taking the opportunity to get closer to Swade.
With disappointment but also a glimmer of hope, everyone stepped into the town destroyed by war.
"There are still broken weapons here. Although they are old and rusty, they have not been completely collected. This shows that the ratmen here were very hasty when collecting the spoils. Maybe we can find something else."
Looking at the current state of the town, Swade finally saw some good news. (End of this chapter)
