Chapter 698 Hollywood Moments of Attention
"Where's Annie? Hasn't she come back yet?"
Aaron hugged Jessica Alba and kissed her. "Did you sleep well last night?"
“Annie went shopping,” Jessica Alba snuggled closer to the man. “Last night was memorable, wasn’t it?”
“Of course,” Aaron chuckled, stroking the woman’s slender waist. “Since we have some free time these days, we can stay in Miami for a few more days!”
Jessica Alba wrapped her arms around the man's neck. "Can you handle this?"
There are two of them, myself and Anne Hathaway!
Aaron leaned close to the woman's ear and gently blew a breath of warm air. "What's the big deal? We could have one more!"
Aaron and Jessica Alba then sat down on the sofa, where the television was showing news about the recount in Florida.
“This election is still ongoing, and it’s really unsettling,” Jessica Alba shook her head.
Aaron smiled without saying a word, groping on the woman's thighs before kissing Jessica Alba's sexy lips.
"Mmm," Jessica Alba responded passionately to the man's kiss, caressing Aaron's body and enjoying the scent of his hormones!
Now all eyes in the United States are on Florida; a recount is not going to be so simple.
Democrats are certainly worried, after all, the current governor of Florida is Jeb Bush, the younger brother of George W. Bush!
Albert Gore and George W. Bush each delivered speeches, expressing their deep concern about the recount of votes in Florida, which will determine the final outcome of the presidential election!
George W. Bush delegated Republican James Baker to handle the recount of Florida votes, while Albert Gore delegated Democratic Warren Christopher to handle the recount.
James Baker, a veteran Republican, served as the 67th Secretary of the Treasury during Ronald Reagan's presidency, then as Secretary of State in the George H.W. Bush administration, and was later appointed as a senior advisor to President Bush and White House Chief of Staff.
Warren Christopher served as Secretary of State during Clinton's first term.
On November 8, when Florida announced the start of a recount, it appeared that signs of election litigation were beginning to emerge!
Soon after, a Democratic leader in Palm Beach County, Florida, indicated that he might file a lawsuit over the county's presidential election voting procedures, alleging that the voting methods were misleading.
“We have thousands of voters in Palm Beach County complaining that in the previous election, due to the punch card voting method, they mistakenly voted for Reform Party candidate Pat Buchanan, when they actually wanted to vote for Mr. Albert Gore.”
Meanwhile, the NAACP sent a letter to the Department of Justice stating that Florida had "numerous election fraud" in this presidential election.
They claimed that some polling stations prevented Black voters from voting due to insufficient ballots or other reasons.
Another report states that in Palm Beach County, Florida, where Democratic voters are predominant, 19120 ballots were invalidated because these voters chose two candidates when casting their ballots!
On November 9, William Daly, U.S. Commerce Secretary and chairman of Albert Gore's campaign committee, also voiced his support for the NAACP, stating that the Democratic Party does not rule out the possibility of filing a lawsuit against the November 8 presidential election results, as they also believe there were serious "abnormalities" in the Florida election voting process, and the Democratic Party hopes the Department of Justice will pay close attention to this.
U.S. Attorney General Janet Reynolds immediately responded, stating, "The Department of Justice will consider the NAACP's request to decide whether to intervene in the investigation of Florida's presidential election." However, former Secretary of State James Baker, who was in Florida handling the recount at the request of George W. Bush, told the media, "Florida's ballots were made in accordance with state law and were approved by Democratic election watchdogs!"
That evening, Aaron and James Baker met at the Fontainebleau Hotel on Miami's South Beach.
"How did the recount go?"
Aaron took a sip of champagne and asked.
James Becker, also from Texas, nodded at Aaron. "Things went fairly well. The Democrats might get a few more votes, but it won't affect the overall outcome."
Aaron tapped his knee. "The large counties in Florida, like Miami-Dade and Broward, have a lot of Democratic supporters, as does the wealthy Palm Beach County."
"If we can get these counties under control, the overall situation will be settled, but the Democratic Party is also keeping an eye on these counties."
Miami-Dade County and Broward County are the first and second most populous counties in Florida, while Palm Beach County is home to a large number of wealthy people!
James Becker shrugged. "I'm afraid the Democrats won't give up. They've been wanting to do a manual count, believing there are serious problems with some of the vote counting designs in Florida."
"Manual vote counting, what about Jeb Bush? What's the situation?" Aaron didn't believe that Jeb Bush, as the governor of Florida, wouldn't take any action.
"He has done everything he should have done..."
On November 10, the recount of presidential election ballots in all 67 counties of Florida was completed, with Republican presidential candidate George W. Bush leading Democratic candidate Albert Gore by a narrow margin of 327 votes.
George W. Bush then announced to the press that he was "ready to enter the White House" and assume the responsibility of leading the United States!
However, the Democrats refused to give up and continued to demand a manual vote count. On the afternoon of November 11, at the request of the Democrats, Palm Beach County, Florida, began to manually recount the ballots in four districts to confirm whether there were any differences from the results of the machine count.
The Republican campaign, of course, was not to be outdone and immediately filed a lawsuit in the Southern District of Florida, seeking an injunction to prevent manual recounts in some counties of Florida.
The dispute between Republicans and Democrats over whether to conduct a manual vote count in Florida has sparked the first round of legal battles.
Unfortunately, the court rejected the Republicans' request, and the Republicans, represented by George W. Bush, lost the first battle in the legal war.
After spending a week in Miami, Aaron finally returned to Los Angeles. The reason was simple: Florida was currently attracting too much media attention!
This US election has captured the hearts of all Americans, and Hollywood is naturally paying close attention to it...
