Mystery: She came from the Chaos Sea
Chapter 24 "Leodro!"
Chapter 24 "Leodro!"
The weather is slightly cold.
Three figures, two large and one small, returned to the human tribe that was sheltered by the giants before winter. Ilusha means "a place of escape."
Stepping onto the narrow and winding stone streets, Hermione's memories became vivid. The human tribe before her was the place where she, Ouroboros and other drug testers had fought for.
The low houses were built with rough stones, and next to the fences used to protect against wild beasts stood the tribal guard, an old man with a weathered face.
He saw Hermione and Ouroboros wrapped in cloaks. Behind the look of disbelief, there was a huge ecstasy on his face. He shouted in the North language:
"They're back! It's Hermione! It's Ouroboros!"
"Ouroboros has found Hermione!"
He repeatedly struck the hollow gourd-shaped stone tool beside him with his hammer. The muffled sound spread melodiously, and the slightly dull tribe seemed to come alive. Old people and children began to gather here.
Soon, a tall young man holding an iron fork came quickly. His young but weathered face showed surprise when he saw Hermione and Ouroboros!
"Hermione! It's really you!"
"Ouroboros, you really did find Hermione!"
The Northland dialect was low and slow, but now he spoke so fast that it almost had a click.
"Leodro." Hermione also forced a smile and said slowly.
Leodro, Hermione didn't know whether this young man who was also testing the drug happened to have the same real name as the "Lord of Storms", one of the seven great gods of later generations, or whether he was the "Lord of Storms" of later generations.
Because what is even more coincidental is that the way of making potions that Leodro in the tribe tried and researched is the "Sea Blessed" way!
Leodro was once the leader of a seaside tribe in the Elf Kingdom, but because he was involved in the battle between elves and dragons, the tribe he had worked so hard to build was destroyed.
Leodro led the remaining survivors, wandering all the way, and finally joined Hermione's medium-to-large tribe.
"Are you the only one here?" Looking at the sparse crowd of people gathered around, consisting of only the elderly and children, Hermione asked, "There aren't any celebrations happening over there among the Giants at this time, are there?"
Giants' celebrations often conscript humans from the Ilusha tribe to serve as laborers and servants.
Leodro's eyes revealed a complex emotion, hatred and confusion, but he could only sigh helplessly:
"Badhair, the Giant King's eldest son, successfully captured and killed the alien 'God of War'. He was thus given a new title, 'God of the Dawn'. The Giants are currently celebrating, and all the young men and women in the tribe have been abducted to prepare for the celebration."
During the Giants' celebrations, humans are as fragile as chicks and often die in accidents, especially since the Giants' celebrations prohibit humans from touching their food and wine.
However, humans who were short of resources could not help but try a few of the various delicious foods and wines after seeing them. However, once they were discovered, they would be beaten, scolded, or even executed.
The human tribe gradually figured out that some giants were deliberately using human lives as entertainment in the celebration...
Even though young men and women are taught to exercise restraint during festivals, there are still instances of deliberate seduction and false accusations. While giants possess far greater rationality than wolves and demons, their essence remains madness and tyranny. Therefore, every giant festival results in casualties among the conscripted humans. While the numbers are small, they devastate countless suffering families and leave the remaining humans terrified and hopeless.
But the saddest thing is that human tribes are simply unable to break away from the giants and become independent. In the vast wilderness, monsters and beasts are rampant, and there are other extraordinary races with even greater malice.
For the extraordinary people who grew up among humans, being able to protect the tribe from the mouths of wild beasts is already the limit. When facing those demigod monsters and those powerful people from the extraordinary races who passed by, they can only seek shelter from the giants.
The giants regard themselves as the protectors of humans, and they really protect the vast majority of humans in the tribe. They just accidentally kill some humans while having fun... that's all!
As they walked and talked, Hermione, calming herself down, introduced Leodro:
"This is Amanisis. We encountered an extraordinary person wandering in the wilderness on our journey. It was she who saved me from the demonic wolf with her wisdom and bravery. This time, she was invited to join our tribe."
Leodro looked at Amanesis curiously and smiled gently: "Welcome, ma'am."
Amanesis looked around as if no one was around, and nodded indifferently in response to Leodero's words.
Leodero was not surprised. It was normal for humans who could wander in the wilderness to have a cold temperament.
There are several temples scattered throughout the tribe, dedicated to the gods of the giants. Those huge, classical and exquisite statues are extremely conspicuous in the poor tribal scene and can be called tribal wonders.
Amanesis was gazing at the statues. Seeing this, Hermione spoke, "We built and installed these according to the rituals required by the giants. It cost a great deal of manpower and resources, but when the tribe faced danger, we prayed to these statues and received their protection."
"Are there any humans?" Amanesis asked. His voice was so pleasant that Leodro beside him turned his head to take a few more glances.
"No. No powerful being with divine power has yet been born among humans." Hermione looked at Amanesis and said, "But I think that day is not far off."
At this time, Leodro said, "By the way, Hermione, your house has been relocated to a newcomer... I happen to have some newly vacant houses over there. I'll take you to choose one."
The tribe is short of supplies in all aspects.
The custom of redistributing the belongings of the deceased had been around since Hermione's time, so she naturally had no objections to this arrangement. However, she refused to choose a vacant room. "I plan to stay at the Institute. Is my room there still available?"
"It's better to keep it...but is it appropriate? It's very dangerous over there." Leodro advised.
Hermione smiled and said, "Precisely because it's dangerous, I need to be stationed there. Besides, I don't plan to live in the institute forever. Amanesis and I will build a new house nearby."
"Oh, I'll help too," Leodro said.
Hermione frowned at this, her tone a little stiff. She sighed and said, "No need. I just came back, and too many things have become unfamiliar. I can't return to the guard sequence for the time being. And you are the Beyonder on duty, right? If you are busy with these things, who will be responsible for the safety of the tribe?"
Leodro rubbed the back of his head and smiled awkwardly, "That's right... Hermione, don't be so serious. I'm just a little excited to see you and Ouroboros back."
Ouroboros said sullenly, "But you didn't even take the initiative to talk to me..."
Leodro could only cover up the topic with what he thought was a hearty laugh.
