Chapter 421 Chance Encounter
Chapter 421 Chance Encounter
In the college,
Wayne and Inesa led people to search the college church. A small number of them were agents from the detective agency, and the majority of the group were people assigned by Tom Hagen.
Tom Hagen was a very clever guy. He divided the local church members in Georgeburg into several groups.
Part of the people he brought with him are now responsible for "protecting" the suspected high-ranking clergy, while the other part are mixed with David Mills' men, forming an overall situation of "other people's cross-supervision, and his own people's 'relative control' everywhere".
Even people from the detective agency were not allowed to go out in groups without permission.
The affairs of the Church of Light have not been made public yet, and perhaps they will not be made public after the investigation is complete.
On the surface, everyone was investigating the murder of Reverend Pycelle at the time, so the clergy in the college church did not try to stop them, but were rather cooperative.
Wayne took a quick look inside but didn't find any valuable clues. While Tom Hagen was listening to his men's reports in a corner of the courtyard, he ran to the entrance of the college church to slack off, thinking about what to do next.
He was now vaguely certain that Reverend Pycelle was indeed connected to the Church of Light, based on the fact that when he sneaked into the academy church before, he had felt the same "suffocating feeling" near Reverend Pycelle's office as he had in the basement of the manor.
This cannot be used as evidence, but it seems to be enough for "doubt".
But if you think about it this way, the problem becomes even bigger.
Although the autopsy results have not come out yet, Wayne thinks it is more likely that the body was cremated after death because the body lay so "peacefully" in the fire scene.
If Reverend Pycelle was "silenced", it means there is a bigger fish behind it.
The same goes for the suicide to destroy evidence. According to Wayne's understanding, if a decent person committed suicide, unless they were forced into a corner, they would at least leave some last words or a suicide note, right? Even if they were bad guys, it wouldn't be strange for them to say a few words of injustice.
If I were to use a dead body as a scapegoat, I wouldn't know what the cathedral would think.
Wayne himself felt that it was not going well.
It was not yet time for the afternoon classes to end, so there were not many people walking around the academy.
At the beginning, Wayne ran into Professor Cook, who was in charge of the principles of science class. Although he had a good reason today, he skipped class and was caught by the professor. As a student, Wayne still felt a little guilty out of habit.
Professor Cook was a relatively open-minded scholar, and Wayne had not skipped his class today, so he exchanged a few pleasantries and asked why the detective agency's stall was no longer set up.
When Wayne first heard the question, he was a little wary, because when Lina and the others set up their stall in the college, they did not officially use the name of the detective agency.
Then he found out after a few inquiries that when the detective agency was selling lottery tickets in Richmond, Professor Cook had seen Chef Parker, who was running a stall, and thought the food was good.
I saw the chef again in the college a few days ago. The connection between them is not difficult for scholars to guess.
After confirming that Professor Cook had no intention of inquiring into the investigation, Wayne made an excuse that it was just Lina's whim. As for whether it would happen again in the future, it was still uncertain.
I didn't expect that Professor Cook is also a junk food lover. After hearing this, I felt a little regretful. Wayne said that if the professor likes, he is welcome to visit the detective agency.
After Professor Cook left, the next person to arrive at the entrance of the college church was Mr. Weisman, whom Wayne had become more familiar with recently.
This guy didn't actually show up officially, but Wayne noticed his coachman and waved to him from a distance.
The few church personnel guarding near the entrance were unaware of the situation and stepped forward a little, allowing the carriage to naturally drive over and pull over.
"Mr. Weissman, why are you here?"
While Wayne was greeting people warmly, he was thinking to himself,
Anyway, this guy has unclear ties with Cohen Pharmaceuticals, but he can still find so many bounty hunters to do shady work. He must have done a lot of dirty things.
Wayne originally planned to temporarily withdraw his battle line and send this guy to the Tyrell priest of the Exorcist Association for investigation.
But now that he could use the church's manpower for free in the name of investigation, and this guy came to him on his own accord... It was not a good idea to use a dead person to complete the task, but he could also "kill rabbits by robbing grass" while he was at it.
It doesn't seem to work either.
Mr. Weissman opened the door of the carriage and spoke to Wayne in a businesslike manner:
"I received news of Reverend Pycelle's death. As the custodian of his will, I am here to handle related matters. Since Reverend Pycelle has no direct blood relatives, after I finish my work at the academy, I will go to his residence and Georgeberg Church to confirm the situation."
"I see."
Wayne was very happy to hear him say that. "Then you should still have Reverend Pycelle's will with you? Can I take a look at it again?"
Mr. Weissman had a smile on his face:
"Of course, this is no different from the one you saw before, Mr. Wayne. According to the contents of the will, some of the details would have been published in the newspaper. However, due to professional requirements, I still need to handle some things as soon as possible. Perhaps I can visit the detective agency later."
Wayne was still thinking about how to trick this guy out of the car when Tom Hagen's voice came from behind him.
His question was similar to Wayne's, "The Testament of Reverend Pycelle? I haven't read it yet. Can I take a look at it?"
Wuhu,
You came just in time. I don’t have to run around to call for help.
Mr. Weissman glanced at Tom Hagen, responded very professionally, gestured to the servant in the carriage, and then got out obediently.
This time when he took the briefcase from the servant, both of them held it firmly, as if they had not forgotten the lesson from last time.
Following Tom Hagen into the prayer hall of the college church,
The few of them found a seat at random. Mr. Weissman took out the opened will from the briefcase. Wayne quickly scanned it and found that it was indeed the one he had seen.
Tom Hagen flipped through it faster and then handed it to a guard beside him, "Arrange for someone to confirm all the contents and items mentioned in the will."
"Yes." The guard quickly took the things and left.
Seeing that Mr. Weissman did not respond, Tom Hagen turned around and paid a little attention to him. "Sir, you should know me, right?"
Mr. Weissman answered politely: "I don't know you, but I have seen you in the cathedral and I know you are a clergyman in the church."
"That's good." Tom Hagen nodded slightly. "In that case, do you have a place to stay in Georgeburg? If necessary, I can help arrange it. We may need to delay your time for some time, I hope you can forgive me."
Mr. Weissman agreed somewhat reluctantly.
Wayne nodded secretly beside him.
I just said,
Given Tom Hagen's personality, anyone who has anything to do with the name "Reverend Pycelle" would probably be blocked from leaving.
