Chapter 363 Litigation
Chapter 363 Litigation
Wayne hadn't thought of this before he came to the police station.
I was a victim who came to report the crime, but in the blink of an eye, I had to pay bail before I could leave...
In all fairness,
"Litigation" is not uncommon in the United States.
As long as others can find legal basis, something as small as "the tree planted in your yard extends into your neighbor's yard" may lead to civil litigation.
In particular, the citizens of America may come from different countries in the Old World, speak different languages, and have different customs and habits.
Civil litigation is sometimes the simplest and most definitive way to resolve a problem.
But the nature of human beings is actually similar.
Once the matter reaches the level of "litigation", it at least means that "the channels of private communication have completely failed in this matter", which is an act of clearing the "past friendship" to zero.
Some people may become friends because of this, but more of them may never see each other again, or even worse.
In general "civil lawsuits", staff usually deliver the court summons to your home or workplace, and then you can appear in court on time.
If it involves "crime", then there will be an additional step of "arrest".
The local law enforcement agencies will use various methods to "invite" the person to the police station, and then have him pay bail or be detained until the trial date based on the crime, and then the trial will be held in court.
As the actual controller of the detective agency, Wayne was not accused of a serious crime. At most, it was a crime of "intimidation" or "coercion". The difference in compensation involved was at most twenty or thirty US dollars, which was not as expensive as a bottle of good wine for the rich.
But this is indeed a serious "semi-criminal lawsuit" - its nature may be similar to "domestic violence". It is not a public prosecution case, but it is not an ordinary civil dispute either.
Fortunately, Wayne's behavior in the local area was relatively good and his crime was not serious, so Bill Tench's attitude was relatively "ordinary".
Tell Wayne that he can leave after paying the bail, and remember to bring a lawyer to appear in court on time.
According to Bill Tench's understanding, Wayne's detective agency was involved in many church-related cases. It was estimated that the local church would arrange people to testify for him, so he would not be found "guilty".
First they arranged for the attack, then they arranged for the accusation.
This means both the “literary and martial” have come…
Wayne thought about it and felt that he couldn't fall into the trap so easily, so he took the opportunity to bite back:
"I think the prosecutor may have been coerced by some illegal forces. I suggest that the local police should investigate the underlying reasons for his prosecution, so as to prevent the court from becoming a tool used by some criminals."
Bill Tench shrugged. "I'll consider it. But whether to continue the investigation is probably not up to me."
Wayne would rather let the detective agency investigate on its own.
Unfortunately, according to the law, the parties to a lawsuit are not allowed to have direct contact. There must at least be someone like a lawyer in between.
……
This time I came here, I actually received the news as soon as possible.
After Wayne left the police station, he went to the newspaper office again.
After thinking it over, Wayne felt that the other party's action of filing a lawsuit this time might be to damage the "popularity" of the detective agency.
Although the Cathedral knew what the detective agency had been doing, some wealthy people who had dealt with it might think it was okay.
But for more wealthy people and ordinary citizens, the detective agency may be a violent civilian organization with a relatively large number of members.
It may seem harmless to humans and animals at present, but it cannot withstand careful consideration.
Therefore, Wayne planned to go to the newspaper to "customize" the news on both sides.
On the one hand, the detective agency is promoted as "law-abiding" and "friendly", for example, the detective agency only targets criminals and distributes candy to children from poor families in the city when they have nothing to do.
On the other hand, they can only blindly target "Cohen Pharmaceuticals", the most suspicious company, and let Doug tell the story as a pill user, implying that the drugs produced by Cohen Pharmaceuticals may have huge side effects.
With Peter's revelations, the detective agency has now accumulated some "connections" in the newspaper industry.
The former is easy to handle, and the price is about the same as buying an ad directly. You can get it in the newspaper by paying.
But the latter message was respectfully but firmly rejected.
The other party answered very carefully: "It's not that I personally don't want to publish such news, but it's difficult for such content to be published in local newspapers. Even if I submit it, the editor-in-chief of the newspaper, the printing company, or the distribution channels may reject it."
Wayne thought about Mr. Ben Harmon's previous experience with Cohen Pharmaceuticals.
Once Cohen Pharmaceuticals' tactics of intimidation and inducement form a "network", it could become quite troublesome.
So Wayne didn't make it too difficult for the other party.
Just ask the other party to help send out the news and reports that can be sent.
When you go to court for trial, it is best to have a lawyer to help you speak.
Wayne had not yet dealt with several formal lawyers at George Berg, and the first person he thought of was Mr. Ben Harmon, whom he had protected before.
Although he guessed that Mr. Ben Harmon would most likely refuse, Wayne still went to visit him as a last resort.
The situation was not too unexpected for Wayne.
Although Mr. Ben Harmon called Wayne to the living room for daily leisure, he talked about things in a semi-casual and semi-formal way to show his closeness.
But he still politely refused.
Mr. Ben Harmon also kindly gave Wayne a heads-up:
"Since Cohen Pharmaceuticals has offered your detective agency a commission contract with a relatively high total price, why don't you consider formally accepting it? According to my guess, if you accept the commission, the charges against you will probably be dropped as well."
Then most of the detective agency's energy will be spent on providing security for Cohen Pharmaceuticals' people.
In the end, you will either be dragged down or become a part of their teeth?
Of course, several partners of the detective agency may get good treatment in this process until they are promoted or fired.
But the detective agency “itself” may soon be extinct.
Wayne thought about it and felt that he was not happy, so he politely said goodbye and turned back to the college.
If you can’t find a decent lawyer, it shouldn’t be hard to find a “half-baked” lawyer, right?
Professor Maisel learned about Wayne and Emma's academic progress, and asked about Wayne's injury and when he could attend classes normally.
Professor Maisel then said he could help ask the law professors in the college to see if they were willing to accept the commission.
However, law professors may have more in-depth theoretical research, but they may not be able to adapt to the current situation in judicial practice, so this is not a good choice.
One of Wayne's roommates has passed the Virginia Bar exam.
However, this guy was previously affected by Mrs. LaLaurie and was smoked in the fire. He is still lying in bed. His thinking ability and speed are still recovering. Sometimes he has to think for a while before speaking.
It doesn’t look good to “carry” the defense lawyer into the courtroom…and it may not be helpful in gaining the sympathy of the jury.
The relatively reliable one in the end was actually the Brotherhood introduced by Ian Fisk.
Luke Matthew from the Pointed Hat Society said he could help Wayne get in touch with a senior who had just graduated two years ago. The senior also had a good relationship with Ian Fisk and was currently working in Richmond. He should be in the accumulation stage of being happy to take on various cases and would be more concerned about litigation.
Wayne had no better candidate at the time, so he asked Luke Matthew to help make the contact and try to meet within a week.
Back to the detective agency,
The prisoner named Liam started crying and screaming again, making it seem like the cellar was haunted.
Wayne had been turned away for almost a day, and was a little angry at this time.
So he held the small green pill outside the big iron cage and asked:
"I want to find the 'Mr. Weissman' who called you over to attack me as soon as possible, or the 'Malcolm Baker' behind him. Can you provide any useful suggestions?"
