Dreaming for 10,000 years
Chapter 300 Goff City
Chapter 300 Goff City
In the late autumn evening of Goff City, the sky was dyed dark gold by the sunset, as if a veil was covering the city. George gripped the steering wheel tiredly, his fingertips slightly white due to long-term exertion.
His eyes were fixed on the gradually darkening road ahead. The street lights outside the car window lit up one by one. The dim light shone through the glass onto his face, reflecting the wrinkles at the corners of his eyes and his tired expression.
He had been working for nearly thirteen hours straight. At 6:30 in the morning, before it was completely light, he was already standing in the warehouse, counting the mountains of goods.
At 3 p.m., he hurried to another office to deal with the endless emails. It was not until 7:30 p.m., when it was completely dark, that he finally finished his work for the day.
The light and shadows of the street lamps flashed outside the car window like flowing golden threads, but they could not dispel his inner fatigue.
George's thoughts were a little vague, and today's work scenes kept replaying in his mind: the warehouse full of cardboard boxes, the flashing computer screens in the office, and the never-enough time.
His eyelids felt heavy as if they were filled with lead, but he knew he couldn't stop.
There are still a lot of bills waiting for him to pay at home, including rent, car loan, student loan... Each one is like a mountain, making it hard for him to breathe.
Suddenly, a dark shadow jumped out from the last golden edge of the sunset. George stepped on the brakes reflexively, the tires rubbed against the ground with a harsh sound, and the car stopped suddenly.
His body rushed forward due to inertia, and was then pulled back to the seat by the seat belt. His heart was beating like a drum, his palms were full of cold sweat, and his eyes were fixed on the front.
"Wang Defa! Do you really want to live?" He yelled at the man who suddenly appeared.
It was a dark-haired, flat-faced Asian man wearing an inappropriate casual outfit.
George's anger was instantly ignited - damn those Asians, they are the ones who took our jobs! If it wasn't already dark, he really wanted to get out of the car and teach this blind guy a lesson.
Shi Fei stood in front of the car. He looked around and saw the towering glass curtain walls, the flashing neon English signs, and George cursing in the car.
He wondered why the dream was here... or in a foreign country?
"Wang Defa! Go back to your country!" George saw Shi Fei standing there in a daze, and his disgust became even stronger. He turned the steering wheel, ready to bypass this "troublemaker" and continue on his way.
I was so damn unlucky today. I was exhausted after a day of work and almost ran into a fool. I'm not afraid of hitting someone, but if I have to wait for work to repair the car, that would be a loss.
Thinking about his student loan and rent, he decided to be generous and not argue with this Asian man.
But he didn't bother with Shi Fei, but Shi Fei did. Just when George was about to step on the accelerator, Shi Fei suddenly opened the car door and swiftly got into the passenger seat.
"Wang Defa! You yellow-skinned @#! How dare you get on my car!" When George saw that Shi Fei dared to get on the car, he immediately became furious and started cursing.
But before he could finish his words, he found that he had suddenly lost control of his body. His hands involuntarily gripped the steering wheel, his foot stepped on the accelerator, and the car slowly started, heading in an unknown direction.
"Wang Defa! Witchcraft! Wizard! You are a devil..." George was so frightened that his voice was trembling and almost inaudible.
"Stop making noise!" Shi Fei told him to shut up.
He really couldn't speak. He tried to struggle, but found that his body was completely out of control. He could only watch himself driving aimlessly in this city that was about to fall at night. Shi Fei sat in the passenger seat and glanced at the scene outside the car window. The glass curtain walls of the high-rise buildings reflected the last rays of the setting sun. This was obviously a foreign city.
As the sky grew darker, George's expression became more and more frightened. He wanted to speak, but he couldn't say anything.
Then he saw that the whole city had gone dark.
The lights of the tall buildings went out one by one, the lights on the storefronts dimmed, and even the street lights began to dim. The once bustling pedestrians on the streets disappeared without a trace, and the whole city seemed to be shrouded in an invisible darkness.
Even the street lights dimmed.
Suddenly, a group of streamers gushed out from every corner of the city, cutting through the dark sky. Those streamers were like white silk threads, interweaving into a huge net in the air, covering the entire city.
Shi Fei had excellent eyesight and he could clearly see that among the streams of light were a group of knights wearing black armor and riding black mechanical horses.
"what is that?"
Those mechanical horses were completely black, with streamlined bodies like sports cars that had been tested in wind tunnels. Each piece of armor plate was tightly joined together, and the surface had a matte texture.
A circle of blue LED lights is embedded around the horse's neck, alternating between light and dark in a special rhythm. The horse's hooves are not made of traditional metal, but four plasma thrusters that spew out blue tail flames, allowing them to glide silently in the night sky like ghosts.
The knights were clad in black armor with clean, simple lines. A glowing Night Owl emblem was inlaid in the center of the breastplate—an abstract Night Owl head with eyes made up of two interlaced multi-faceted sapphires.
Their helmets are teardrop-shaped, with one-way transparent black lenses on the face masks, and several thin data cables extending from the back of the neck, connected to the nervous system of the mount.
Tiny sensors on the shoulder armor and knee pads flash green status lights, silently announcing their arrival.
Their styling and technology seem centuries away from George’s second-hand car!
"That's the Dark...Knight! Go back quickly! Go back home and stay!" George found that he could finally speak, and shouted hurriedly.
There was an undisguised fear in his voice, as if those knights were messengers from hell.
Then he found that he could control his body and tried to turn around. However, when he turned around, he did not follow the traffic rules, because he could not turn around on the yellow line.
Just like that, he was noticed by a knight.
A knight's mechanical horse drew a faint blue track in the air, and like an elf in the dark night, it descended from the sky and came not far from George.
When Shi Fei got closer, he found that the mechanical warhorse was about 2.5 meters tall, with a carbon fiber skeleton covered with modular ceramic armor, and the shock absorbers at the joints pumped out white mist of liquid nitrogen with every step.
The black combat uniform of the cavalry had an active camouflage system built into it, and the single-sided glass mask made it impossible to see the knight's appearance. Only a muffled voice was heard:
"Pursuant to Section 37 of the Goff City Traffic Law, you have illegally changed lanes! Citizen George Miller, exit your vehicle and accept your ticket."
