Chapter 45 A Bunch of Dogs
Xia Zhi frowned deeply upon hearing this. How did these people know about Lu Beiting's injury?

Such a serious matter as Lu Beiting's injury should not be revealed to the public, yet these people not only know about it but know it so clearly.

Could there be a spy in the military?
"Boss, if that's really the case, that would be great. Without Lu Beiting, wouldn't things be much easier for us?"

"Hmph, Lu Beiting is like a madman. If it weren't for him, our business wouldn't be in such bad shape these past few years."

"Hey boss, I heard from the people over there that Lu Beiting was captured when he was very young, but he didn't die. Well, if he didn't die, then so be it."

They even taught him a lot of skills in that ruthless place, and do you know how old he was then?
He's only a teenager, damn, that's incredible! If he were over there, he'd be a high-ranking Burmese military officer at least.

Xia Zhi was shocked; she never imagined that Lu Beiting had such a cruel past.

In her time, people there were so cruel they would eat people alive. She simply couldn't imagine the tortures of their time, which were at least dozens of times more brutal.

Her face turned cold, and a murderous intent flashed in her eyes. These people deserved to die.

They then moved back inside before the people outside noticed.

There were six women in total, including her, and three children. The three children, who looked to be seven or eight years old, were lying unconscious on the dry grass nearby, probably because they had been fed.

She glanced at the child briefly, and seeing that there was nothing seriously wrong, she didn't pay any more attention to him.

The other women were wearing tank tops, and their exposed skin and faces were covered in bruises, indicating that their injuries were quite severe.

The pregnant woman didn't look well. Her belly looked at least eight months along. Her face was pale, and she was breathing softly with her mouth slightly open.

"Are you ok?"

The woman looked at her, finding it difficult to speak. She nodded painfully, then placed her hand on her stomach and looked at her pleadingly.

"It's okay, don't be afraid, I'll think of something."

Xia Zhi whispered words of comfort, and the women nearby heard her. Their cloudy eyes gradually cleared, and they looked at her with hopeful eyes.

"really?"

"Yes, my husband is in the military. Don't worry, if he finds out I'm gone, he'll come looking for me very soon."

"Thank goodness, there's hope." The woman beside her murmured silently, tears streaming down her face.

Seeing that the pregnant woman's condition was not good, Xia Zhi used her points to exchange for some pills to help prevent miscarriage.

“I’m a doctor. I have some medication to help with pregnancy. Taking it will make you feel better.” She then turned her back to her.

The woman looked at the pill in her palm, a hint of hesitation in her heart, fearing it might be fake.

But given her current situation, she's still willing to take the gamble. Even if she dies, it won't be so bad; it would be a relief.

After thinking it through, the woman twisted her body and reached over to swallow the pill from her palm.

The woman who had been sitting with her back to them in the corner suddenly opened her eyes, her sharp, triangular eyes looking at her.

People in the military.

Xia Zhi noticed it too and looked over. The woman was also dressed in tattered clothes, her hair was messy and she couldn't see what she looked like. Only her eyes were strangely eerie, and her face did not show any joy at being rescued. Instead, she looked worried.

Xia Zhi immediately had a bold guess in her mind, but she wasn't sure, so she could only observe carefully.

Compared to others, she seemed to have fewer injuries, and her energy and spirit seemed much better than others.

Seeing that Xia Zhi was looking at her, Li Baozhu immediately yelled at her unhappily, "What are you looking at?" Xia Zhi frowned. Why was she so agitated? She hadn't even said anything yet.

"Hey, don't bother arguing with her. She was here before us. She's probably been tortured to the point of mental breakdown. She's a pitiful person."

Zhang Qiaolian, who was standing next to her, pulled her aside and offered a few words of advice. Xia Zhi nodded with some doubt.

At this moment, Lu Beiting, who had been waiting, immediately sensed that something was wrong.

"They haven't come back yet. They must have run into some trouble. Zhang Yi, you should go and look for them."

Lu Beiting glanced at the people around her. They had all left by now, and even if she had gone to do something else, she should have returned by now.

"Okay." Zhang Yi said and ran out.

Lu Beiting searched in the direction where Xia Zhi had disappeared, but the two of them couldn't find her after searching for a while.

“Battalion Commander, I asked the supplier’s boss, and he said he’s never even seen your wife.” Lu Beiting’s hand on the wheelchair tightened. “Go find someone else, and I’ll take a good look at you.”

"Battalion Commander, this..." Zhang Yi hesitated. What if he encountered danger again?

"What are you standing there for? Hurry up and go. I'll take care of myself," Lu Beiting urged again.

Zhang Yi gritted his teeth and had no choice but to turn around and go to his teammates.

Lu Beiting stopped at the fork in the road, looking at the two sides of the road. One side was a bustling market, and the other side was an empty alley. If Xia Zhi were to follow her usual habits, which side would she go in?
He calmed down and looked down at the footprints on the ground, analyzing them carefully.

In the end, I headed towards the alley, winding my way along, relying entirely on my intuition.

Lu Beiting was so tired that he had to catch his breath. His palms were already red and swollen, but he didn't dare to delay.

Just as he was about to turn back, he saw a piece of candy lying in the corner and smiled with relief.

On Xia Zhi's side, several men opened the door and walked in, sitting in front of them and looking them up and down.

Then one of them pointed at Xia Zhi and said, "Boss, this woman is so young, why don't you want to try her?"

Xia Zhi bit her lower lip, her hand behind her carefully scraping with a scalpel. These beasts, she'd beat them to a pulp.

The man in the lead, Wang Dagou, grinned, revealing a mouthful of yellow teeth. "Not bad, not bad, this guy does look pretty good."

The men behind her understood and stepped forward to grab Xia Zhi, but Zhang Qiaolian suddenly blocked her way.

"Gentlemen, this girl looks too young and probably doesn't know how to serve people. Why don't you take a look at me?"

Xia Zhi stared in shock at the woman blocking her way, her heart skipped a beat, and she quickened her pace.

Wang Dagou looked at Xia Zhi and then at Zhang Qiaolian. "Heh, they're so indebted to be taught a lesson. Well then, teach them both a lesson. Go, bring the one in front of me first."

The two immediately changed their target and dragged Zhang Qiaolian over. Wang Dagou bent down and grabbed Zhang Qiaolian's hair.

Xia Zhi stared at the scene before her with bloodshot eyes, completely unaware that her lower lip had been bitten until it bled.

Wang Dagou slapped Zhang Qiaolian several times, and her already injured face quickly became red and swollen.

Wang Dagou squatted down and began tearing at her clothes while cursing incessantly.
