Chapter 61 39 The Middleman Level
Chapter 61 39. Middleman Level
"How did the talk go, Carl?"
Jack looked at Carl coming over and glanced at Blanca who was walking towards the door of the Afterlife Bar: "What is the employer's mission?"
"There's no rush for this. Let's talk about it slowly when we get back."
There were many people outside the box, and Carl didn't intend to discuss the mission in such a place: "Speaking of which, what are you and Oliver doing? I saw you two talking to the bartender just now."
"These famous wines in the next life seem to be recipes left by legends of the past. Oliver and I are thinking of ordering one for ourselves."
"Book one?"
Carl sat down next to Jack: "But I remember there was a saying that the legends of Night City are all in graves."
"That's not quite right."
Oliver said, "Right now in Night City, I know of two living legends, and we happen to have some contact with each other, Adam Hammer, and the owner of the Afterlife Bar, the legendary middleman Roger. You can't just not regard them as legends of Night City."
"That's the truth."
Carl sat at the bar and asked curiously what kind of mixes Oliver and Jack had reserved.
"A glass of vodka on the rocks, lime juice, ginger beer, and most importantly - some love."
This is Jack's recipe, but Carl couldn't help but complain when he heard it:
"This thing is just the recipe for a Moscow Mule. At most you added some inexplicable love at the end."
"Love is all that matters, Carl."
"alright."
Carl looked at Oliver: "What kind of mix did you leave behind?"
"For me, it's 30 milliliters of whiskey, a shot of Dolina, and some ice cubes."
"Rusty Nail Cocktail, how come you copied it too? What's the special feature?"
"What special features do I need? When it becomes famous, people will hear my name when they buy this wine, which will be enough to make me happy."
Oliver said, and encouraged Carl: "Jack and I both left behind the wine recipe, Carl, why don't you leave one?"
"What kind of formula can I have? If I really have to choose, I will probably just copy one like you guys."
Carl called the bartender over and ordered himself a soda.
"Personally, I think Sprite goes well with red wine."
"What kind of female drinking method is this?"
Oliver complained, looking at the soda in front of Karl: “And it’s a bar ordering drinks again. Come to think of it, you don’t seem to drink much every time.”
"Just keep the necessary clarity and vigilance."
Carl drank the cold soda water: "It can't be that everyone is drunk and there is not even one sober person. You and Jack can drink without worry. I'm watching you."
"Well, I'm drunk, so please keep an eye on me, Carl."
A voice that was quite familiar to Carl and the other two came from not far from the bar where they were. Carl looked in the direction of the voice and found that it was Mann walking towards them with a beer.
"Thanks to your care for the previous mission."
Mann sat down next to Carl and raised the bottle to Oliver and Jack. "I should thank you for visiting me."
On the way, Carl already knew what would happen after the mission was completed. All the mercenaries came to see Carl, but after all, the place they were in was a hospital controlled by Arasaka. After accompanying Carl and making sure that he was okay, they said goodbye and left one by one. Mann was the last one to leave, and he went back only after receiving a call from someone. It was only four hours before Carl woke up.
"What's there to thank me for? Compared to saving my life, it's nothing."
Mann gulped down his beer, finishing half a bottle in one breath before saying, "I was wondering when I could go see you guys and thank you formally, but I didn't expect to run into you in my next life. Have you got another job?"
"It's just some finishing touches for the previous mission."
Carl looked at Mann: "Are you on vacation?"
"I just saved my life from being shot the day before yesterday, so of course I need to have a good rest. Normal mercenaries live day by day, but you guys are too diligent in accepting missions. You just woke up today, and you're already here to do a mission."
"Today we are just here to take on a mission and learn about the situation. We need to rest for a while before we talk about it."
Karl drank soda water: "Has your middleman deposited the payment into your account this time?"
"If that guy dares to be greedy for even this, I will definitely twist off his head."
Mann asked back, "Did that Faraday guy send the money?"
"It's OK. I called back an hour after completing the mission."
Jack on the side said, suddenly he was a little curious about something: "Speaking of which, Mann, how much did you get from the middleman who introduced you to this mission?"
"150,000 Euros, that's the most paid job I've ever done."
"One hundred and fifty thousand euros."
Hearing this number, Carl and his companions silently calculated it in their minds.
The compensation they received was 300,000, which means an average of 100,000 per person. Compared with Mann's 150,000, they were almost half the amount.
The money paid to the middleman per person should be the same, which means
"That bastard Faraday took a lot of our money."
"What do you mean?"
Mann was a little puzzled. After learning that Carl and his men were paid 100,000 yuan each based on the number of people they killed, the corners of his mouth twitched: "That bastard Faraday is really as greedy as a stray dog that can't get food on the street."
"Calculated this way, the money he took was even more than the share of other middlemen."
After hearing this, Oliver felt that his good mood instantly turned sour. It was hard to believe that any normal mercenary would be happy after finding out that most of his wages had been deducted.
"Just do it for the next mission."
Jack said, "Now that our team is famous because of Carl, it's our turn to pick the middleman. I have a connection, so if we want to take on a mission, we can contact the priest. The priest should have some good missions."
"Father, is this the priest who is the middleman of Heywood?"
Mann was a little surprised by the middleman Jack mentioned, because: "The level of the priest is different from that of a middleman like Faraday. You have a relationship with him, but you didn't take his mission?"
"Before, I felt embarrassed about my low reputation, but now I understand. If I have the ability, why should I let a wild dog like Faraday eat my salary?"
As Jack was speaking, he noticed someone approaching from the corner of his eye.
"Don't mind interrupting me."
A rather sturdy blonde woman approached.
