Chapter 12: Peace talks? Peace talks!
Chapter 12: Peace talks? Peace talks!
Betty looked at everything around her nervously, she felt like she was going crazy.
In her eyes, there were monsters everywhere!
The ones with wings are nothing special; the ones with three legs and five arms are simply terrifying.
Has she arrived at the nuclear radiation zone? I have never heard of a secret experimental base here.
If she continues to stay here, will she become like this? Don't let this happen!
"Betty, are you okay?"
Betty turned her head sharply and looked in the direction of the voice, only to see Banner standing not far away, his eyes full of concern and confusion.
"Banner, can you please take me away from here? Leave here, okay? The two of us, go somewhere else?"
Betty's voice trembled and she looked at Banner with pleading eyes. She didn't want to stay in this damn place for a moment.
But to her disappointment and even despair, Banner just shook his head slightly in response to her request.
"Why, why?"
There was a flash of confusion and despair in Betty's eyes. She almost cried out loud, but she held back her tears, hoping to get a reasonable explanation from Banner.
"Why can't we leave? It's too dangerous here. I... I'm scared."
"Betty, you can't leave until you hear the gospel of God."
Banner said softly, his tone leaving no room for doubt. Betty had never seen Banner like this before, not only physically, but also in character.
"God? What god?"
Betty was stunned, her eyes widened, as if she had heard the most incredible words in the world.
In her understanding, all this had nothing to do with "God". She only felt endless fear and anxiety.
"Banner, what are you talking about? This is clearly a horrible place. What does it have to do with God?"
Betty's voice was full of confusion and puzzlement. She couldn't understand why Banner suddenly mentioned God.
"Betty, it seems that I need to take some time to tell you about the great deeds of our Blood God. He saved me, who was once a lost lamb, and I will serve Him forever."
There was a strange light flashing in Banner's eyes, a kind of piety and fanaticism that Betty had never seen before.
He approached slowly, his tone carrying an unquestionable power, as if every word carried some sacred mission.
"Betty, do you know? This world is far more complex and profound than we can imagine. The Blood God is the beacon for those of us wandering in the darkness. It is He who gives us the chance to be reborn and helps us find our direction in despair."
Banner's voice was low and magnetic, and every word struck Betty's heart.
Betty listened in shock, unable to understand why Banner believed so firmly in a god she had never heard of.
She wanted to refute, wanted to tell Banner that all this was ridiculous, but looking at Banner's determined eyes, she suddenly felt powerless.
"But... Banner, everything here, these monsters, and why are we here? How do you explain all this?"
Betty's voice was weak as she tried to find a thread of sanity.
"Those are warriors blessed by the great gods. Do you see their powerful strength? If you are willing to believe in the Blood God, you can become as powerful as them."
Betty was stunned. She couldn't believe such a ridiculous explanation.
But she also realized that Banner was no longer the Banner she was familiar with. He had been deeply influenced and even changed by some force.
"Banner, I...I don't know what you are talking about, but I only know that this place is too dangerous and we must leave."
There was a hint of urgency in Betty's voice. She wanted to pull Banner back and make him sober up. Banner opened his mouth and was about to smile when Bronski came over.
"Boss, the military has sent another messenger."
"Oh, where?"
Banner's attention instantly shifted from Betty to Bronski, only to see him smile evilly.
"It was at the entrance of the camp before, and it is still at the entrance of the camp now."
Upon hearing this, Banner frowned, obviously displeased with Bronsky's teasing.
Just as he was about to say something, Bronski spoke again.
"Before, they were standing at the entrance of the camp, but now, their whole bodies have been embedded in the ground. I believe we will have a good harvest next year.
Boss, you don't know how soothing it is to hear their dying cries! "
Bronsky closed his eyes, as if he was really immersed in a beautiful piece of music.
Banner frowned: "Bronsky, you should report to me before killing anyone."
"Boss, you're going to kill him anyway after I report this to you, so why bother?"
"Then you have to report to me before killing me!"
There was obvious harshness in Banner's tone, and he was dissatisfied with Bronski's unauthorized actions.
Bronski shrugged. "Got it, boss. It won't happen again."
Seeing him say that, Banner didn't care anymore.
Anyway, he will be killed sooner or later.
But Banner didn't care, but Betty next to him was scared to death.
"You, you actually killed the military's special envoy?"
Betty's voice trembled and her eyes were full of fear and disbelief.
"Kill him if you want. You've seen it before. Wasn't the special envoy who just sent you here also from the military? Didn't we twist off his head right in front of your eyes?"
Bronsky shrugged indifferently, feeling amused that this woman had not yet faced reality.
Betty took a few steps back in horror, her worldview completely collapsed at this moment. She had never thought that she would be involved in such a crazy and bloody situation, especially seeing that Banner didn't care, she was even more terrified.
"Banner, you, you are not going to go to war with the military?"
"That's right, we are going to go to war with the military. Those sons of bitches will become our sacrifices to the great blood god!"
Before Banner could speak, Bronski answered Betty first, but the latter ignored him and continued to stare at Banner with burning eyes.
She prayed to get a negative answer from her lover, but the moment Banner shook his head slightly, Betty's heart sank to the bottom, and her pupils were filled with despair.
"W-why, why are you doing this?"
"I am doing this to fulfill a great mission! Am I fighting with honor?"
Looking at his former lover in a daze, Banner felt a pain in his heart.
"Whether you understand it or not, everyone here, including Bronski, has been inspired by this belief. We no longer live just for ourselves, but for the great Blood God. This is a great cause worthy of our lifelong struggle!"
