Chapter 64 Topographic Survey Team
In the conference room.

Commander Wang sat in the main seat, reciting those clichéd welcoming phrases and praising the young talents.

Shen Xi spoke up at the right time, aptly expressing his humble refusal.

As the two went back and forth, everyone else in the conference room became mere background figures.

Meng Youyou felt that this meeting was held in a very hasty manner.

"Can't you two chat privately?"

The conversation eventually circled back to business.

“Oh dear,” Commander Wang paused tactically before continuing, “Comrade Shen Xi has traveled a long way to our 624 Border Defense Unit to guide and lead us in using more advanced and scientific geographic surveying and mapping technology to update the military topographic maps of the border control area under the responsibility of the 624 Unit.”

Commander Wang looked at everyone in the room and said in a serious tone: "Therefore, for the next period of time, all personnel within the 624th Regiment will be assigned to Comrade Shen Xi as much as possible. We will definitely mobilize the entire force to support the smooth progress of this border topographic surveying work."

Shen Xi leaned back slightly and whispered to Meng Youyou beside her, "I have a feeling that your commander's words were directed at me."

Meng Youyou didn't say anything, but gave him a meaningful look. "Young man, you have a high level of awareness. Congratulations! Your feeling was correct."

The scene of the two exchanging glances was interpreted quite differently by the battalion commander on the other side.

Zhong Heng stared anxiously at the pen clutched in their battalion commander's hand, as if he himself were that pen, its fate held in its throat, about to "choke" at any moment.

He felt that the biggest mistake he made today was that Shen Xi asked to switch seats with him before the meeting, and he agreed without thinking.

Zhong Dacong made a mistake.

……

The meeting concluded, and the tentative personnel for the survey team were assigned:
Group Leader: Shen Xi (Commander Role)

Deputy Team Leader: Huo Qingshan (assisting in command) Team Member: Meng Youyou (during the on-site survey, communicate with border residents outside the border in a timely manner to avoid misunderstandings and conflicts)

Two surveyors (assisting in surveying)

A communications soldier (communication liaison)

A scout (terrain reconnaissance)
Three physically gifted soldiers (coordinating their actions)

……

After the meeting, everyone else left, leaving only the group members to continue discussing the details of the plan.

Shen Xi spread out the original border topographic map on the table, his finger slowly moving along the mountain ranges on the map, his eyes focused. He broke the silence first: "Judging from this topographic map, the terrain of the southwestern border is extremely complex."

After extensive research, I believe that several high-altitude and representative peaks should be selected as starting observation points, such as these.

As he spoke, he lightly circled on the map with a pencil, his expression serious and confident. "Then we planned the survey route along the main mountain ranges, based on the triangulation method, and with the high-precision theodolite we carried, we measured angles and calculated distances at each mountaintop, gradually building the basic framework of the entire border terrain."

After speaking, he straightened up and looked at the crowd with a firm gaze, as if waiting for their response.

Huo Qingshan frowned, his expression grave. He looked at the map and shook his head. "Expert Shen, this plan is theoretically sound, but it will be fraught with difficulties in practice."

He pointed to a jungle area on the map, "For example, this area has vast jungles, a harsh environment, and crisscrossing rivers. In your plan, some of the mountains are actually inaccessible. Not to mention the venomous snakes and wild beasts, there are even a lot of miasma in some places, and there is a high possibility of landslides."

He then pointed to another mountainous area, "And this area, where there is a large amount of magnetic material underground. The magnetic field disorder can easily cause the compass to malfunction and make people get lost. There are potential dangers everywhere."

"Our soldiers might be able to manage after long periods of training in this environment," the man paused slightly, "but this time we're also taking two... comrades with us on this survey. I can't risk your lives."

During the PK period, please support me!
I wonder if any readers will find it annoying that I often write stories about the protagonists living in very harsh environments? But in reality, their normal work revolves around these conditions. Personally, I think there aren't that many wish-fulfillment stories out there back in time. How could the daily life of a border soldier consist of nothing more than constantly falling in love?

But I should give you a heads-up, just in case you're feeling discouraged: this is probably the last story set in such a harsh environment in the wild.
