Chapter 7 Help me
Wen Ci walked into the kitchen and saw Huo Jingyuan preparing to add water and knead the dough. She glanced around the kitchen, took off her apron from the right side of the door, and slowly said, "Wear this, it won't be easy to get your clothes dirty."

The flour can easily get you dirty while kneading dough.

Huo Jingyuan's hands were already covered in flour. He looked up at Wen Ci, then raised his arms, a smile curving his lips, and said in a low voice, "Help me."

Wen Ci walked around behind Huo Jingyuan. The apron was the old-fashioned half-length style. She tied the long belt around the man's lower back and, after thinking for a moment, tied it into a bow.

Just then, Wen Ci's stomach rumbled at an inopportune moment.

She had just jumped into Shichahai Lake this morning and was now extremely hungry.

Wen Ci suggested, "How about I help make the noodles and side dishes?"

"Can you go to the cafeteria?" Huo Jingyuan asked.

Wen Ci blinked and understood what Huo Jingyuan meant. In any case, she also wanted to try the cooking skills of the military canteen in the 1980s.

"Then I'll go get the food."

Wen Ci had only recently been brought back to the Jiang family and was unfamiliar with the compound, so she could only identify it by the locations of the food that other family members had placed in their hands.

"Where did this pretty girl come from?"

"I'm guessing it's some kind of relative?"

"This little guy is really handsome!"

Although Wen Ci grew up in the countryside, she inherited her looks from her parents in the Jiang family. She has naturally fair skin, thick eyebrows, and big eyes, and is very beautiful.

Wen Ci politely asked, "Which direction is the cafeteria in?"

"Huo family daughter-in-law, are you going to the cafeteria to get food?" Several aunties who had been chatting with Huo Jingyuan earlier came over and asked when they saw Wen Ci holding an empty bowl.

"Jingyuan said he would make me a Northwest specialty, so I'm going to get some ingredients to take home and eat with noodles."

"Xiuer, do you know this girl?" Liu Fang, the most talkative woman in the compound, asked with a puzzled look when she heard her other older friends say "the daughter-in-law of the Huo family," "Which Huo family?"

"Old Chief Huo!"

Everyone stared wide-eyed. Everyone in the compound knew that the Huo family and the Jiang family were engaged, and the Jiang family's daughter had never been seen in the compound before. Upon seeing her in person, they couldn't help but praise, "As the old saying goes, a daughter resembles her father, and Minister Jiang is truly a spitting image of him."

Wen Ci smiled gently and made an excuse: "Aunties, I have to go to the cafeteria to get some food first, otherwise there won't be any good food left."

The canteen in the compound makes roughly the same amount of food every day; if you go late, there will only be leftovers.

Following the directions given by the aunties, Wen Ci arrived at the military compound canteen. There was a long queue at the window; it was rare to see young women coming to the military compound to get food.

Wen Ci attracted a lot of attention.

Wen Ci held an enamel bowl in his hand, painted with an exquisite bright red picture. It was immediately obvious that it was a reward given to an officer by a military unit.

Wen Ci's gaze swept over the words on the small blackboard by the window.

Today's specials: Sweet and sour pork ribs and tomato and egg.

"How did you come?"

Suddenly, a voice came from behind Wen Ci. Before she could turn around, she heard a low, threatening voice through gritted teeth: "Who let you into the cafeteria?"

Wen Ci rolled her eyes.

She knew who was standing behind her without even turning around.

His biological older brother, Jiang Chen.

Wen Ci replied, "Why can't I come to the cafeteria?"

"You promised!"

Wen Ci remembered that when the original owner was taken back to the military compound, she was told not to go out casually, especially not to go to crowded places like the canteen.

"Mind your own business," Wen Ci said calmly.
