Chapter 432 Barton the Giant Bear
Chapter 432 Barton the Giant Bear
He weaved through the crevices of the iceberg, perfectly avoiding all attacks.
"How is this possible?" Frost Wald exclaimed in shock. "When did your Observation Haki become so strong?"
“Just now,” Borsalino answered frankly, “I broke through during my battle with you.”
“Damn it!” Frost Wald realized something was wrong.
His original advantage was that his Observation Haki was stronger than his opponent's, allowing him to predict their actions. But now that Borsalino's sensory abilities have improved by leaps and bounds, this advantage is disappearing.
To make matters worse, maintaining absolute zero for such a long time was taking a toll on his physical strength. Although he was reluctant to admit it, he was indeed starting to feel tired.
"We can't delay any longer!" he resolved. "We must finish this quickly!"
"The ultimate technique of the Ice-Ice Fruit—Absolute Zero: World End!"
This was his strongest attack, freezing everything within a ten-kilometer radius to absolute zero. Under such an attack, unless the opponent also possessed abilities of equal caliber, death was certain.
But Borsalino is not the same person he used to be.
"Observation Haki - Complete Foresight!"
By sensing Frost Wald's mind, he fully predicted the nature and scope of the attack.
"The Awakening of the Light-Light Fruit—Light Speed Domain!"
Borsalino also unleashed his ultimate power. A one-kilometer radius around him was filled with high-speed photons. Within this domain, he was light itself, possessing near-infinite speed.
The collision between the speed of light and absolute zero produced a tremendous explosion. The entire ocean was affected by this energy shock, and huge whirlpools appeared on the surface.
As the light from the explosion and the ice crystals gradually dissipated, both of them showed obvious signs of fatigue.
Frost Wald was panting heavily, his face pale, clearly exhausted. Borsalino, though also tired, was in significantly better condition than his opponent.
"Your fruit has awakened?" Frost Wald asked in astonishment.
“Just awakened.” Borsalino gave another unexpected answer. “Thank you for your help.”
"What?" Frost Wald was even more shocked.
Breaking through Observation Haki in battle and then awakening a Devil Fruit ability? That's simply unbelievable!
But the facts speak for themselves: Borsalino did indeed gain a significant boost in this battle.
“Now, let’s settle this,” Borsalino said earnestly.
"Hmph! Even if you awaken your Devil Fruit power, you still can't defeat me!" Frost Wald said defiantly.
But his heart had begun to waver, and Borsalino immediately noticed this wavering.
“You’ve lost your confidence in winning,” Borsalino said calmly. “I can sense your unease.”
"Shut up!" Frost Wald charged over angrily.
But anger made him lose his composure, and his attacks became less precise.
"Ama-no-Murakumo-no-Tsurugi - Light-Speed Combo Slashes!"
Borsalino wielded a lightsaber, unleashing a series of lightning-fast slashes. His awakened Light-Light Fruit had granted him unprecedented speed, making it difficult even for Frost Wald to keep up.
"Clang clang clang clang!"
A flurry of sword strikes rang out. Frost Wald managed to parry with his ice blade, but he was clearly at a disadvantage.
"The Eight-Span Curved Jewel - Awakened Version!"
Countless light projectiles shot towards Frost Wald from all directions, each carrying the power of an awakened being.
"Ice Wall - Multiple Layers of Protection!"
Frost Wald created several ice walls in succession, but they were all easily penetrated by the light bullets.
"Boom boom boom!"
Amidst the continuous explosions, Frost Wald was thrown back, sustaining multiple injuries that stained his blue robes with blood.
“It’s over.” Borsalino appeared before him, his lightsaber pressed against his neck.
Frost Wald lay on the broken ice, his breath faint, clearly incapacitated.
“I lost?” He looked at Borsalino in disbelief.
“Yes.” Borsalino nodded. “You lost.”
"Thirty years ago, I was defeated by the Pirate King Roger," Frost Wald said with a bitter smile. "I never imagined that thirty years later, I would be defeated again by a Marine."
“You are very strong,” Borsalino said sincerely. “If I hadn’t broken through in battle, I couldn’t have defeated you.”
“Breakthrough.” Frost Wald repeated the word. “You’re a monster.”
Just as Borsalino was about to arrest him, Frost Wald suddenly made a move.
"Ice Release - Absolute Zero Teleportation!"
He used his last strength to freeze himself and teleport through a network of ice crystals in the seawater.
"Trying to escape?" Borsalino immediately realized.
"Flash—Tracking Beam!"
He fired a tracking beam in an attempt to pinpoint Frost Wald's location.
However, the opponent's ice escape technique was more advanced than he had imagined, completely blending into the surrounding ice crystal environment and making it difficult to track.
A few minutes later, Frost Wald appeared on a small island several kilometers away. He was in very bad condition, suffering from multiple serious injuries and barely breathing.
"Damn Kizaru!" he gritted his teeth. "How dare he let me lose so badly!"
He looked at his injuries and knew it would take a long time to recover. More importantly, this defeat had dealt a huge blow to his pride.
Thirty years of secluded training, yet he was defeated by a young navy man.
Anger, humiliation, resentment and other negative emotions surged within him.
“I swear,” he raised his trembling hand, “one day I will make you pay!”
"I will definitely avenge Borsalino!"
After saying this, he struggled to his feet and walked deeper into the island. He needed to find a place to heal his wounds and then devise a plan for revenge.
Meanwhile, Borusalino was still searching for Frost Wald's whereabouts on the sea.
"They run really fast," he said with a hint of regret.
Although he hadn't managed to capture his opponent, the gains from this battle had exceeded his expectations. "My Observation Haki has indeed improved significantly," he thought, sensing the changes within himself. "And my Devil Fruit ability has awakened as well."
The awakened Light-Light Fruit granted him even greater power. Not only did his speed increase further, but he could also create a light-speed field, within which he was virtually invincible.
"This training session was very successful." He nodded in satisfaction.
But he also knew that although Frost Wald had been defeated, he had not been completely defeated. Given the other's personality, he would definitely find a way to take revenge.
"However, we'll deal with whatever comes our way," Borsalino said, not too worried.
Now that his strength has greatly increased, he is confident that he can win even if he faces Frost Wald again.
"It's time to go back and find the Straw Hat Pirates." He thought of those lovely young people.
Although they had only been apart for a few days, he already missed the days they had gone on adventures together.
"They should still be on Food Island."
Borsalino transformed into a beam of light and flew towards the food island.
During the flight, he recalled the battle he had just fought. Although the process was dangerous, the result was very satisfying.
"My Observation Haki has improved significantly," he analyzed his progress. "Now I can not only sense the opponent's attack intentions, but also their psychological state."
This level of Observation Haki has reached the level of a top-tier powerhouse. Combined with his awakened Devil Fruit ability, his combat strength has undergone a qualitative leap.
"If I were to face an enemy of Yonko level now, it shouldn't be as difficult as before."
This training gave him a new understanding of his own strength. Although he was still far from the pinnacle, it was already enough to deal with most threats.
On the other hand, on that remote island, Frost Wald found a cave as a temporary hiding place.
"Damn Kizaru!" he cursed as he tended to his wounds.
This defeat reminded him of his loss to Roger thirty years ago. Both times he was overwhelmed in battle and forced to flee in a sorry state.
“But this time is different!” he said viciously. “Roger is dead, but Kizaru is still alive!”
"I'll make him know the price of humiliating 'Hyperion' Frost Wald!"
He began to consider ways to take revenge. A direct confrontation was clearly not a good option; the battle just now had proven that Kizaru was now stronger than him.
“Since a one-on-one fight won’t work, then…” A sinister glint flashed in his eyes.
"I remember the Straw Hat Pirates had a good relationship with Kizaru."
During the battle just now, he sensed some of Kizaru's inner thoughts using his Observation Haki. Among them was his concern for the Straw Hat Pirates.
“If we can’t deal with Kizaru himself, then we’ll start with the people he cares about,” Frost Wald sneered.
"Straw Hat Luffy, a New World Supernova with a bounty of 15 billion Berries, is indeed a good target."
He began to devise a detailed plan for revenge. Although he was currently severely injured, given enough time to recover, he would regain his formidable fighting prowess.
"Just you wait, Kizaru," he said through gritted teeth. "I will definitely avenge this!"
"Then, I will make you watch your cherished companions die in despair in my heart!"
In the darkness of the cave, Frost Wald struggled to tend to his wounds. The injuries inflicted by Kizaru's lightsaber were more severe than he had imagined; the wounds were not only deep enough to expose the bone, but also retained residual light energy, hindering natural healing.
“Damn light energy.” He gritted his teeth, using ice to suppress the remaining energy in his wound. “This level of injury will take at least a month to fully heal.”
But what he found even more unbearable than the physical pain was the humiliation he felt. As a legendary pirate who had once fought against the Pirate King Roger, he had actually been defeated by a young Marine Admiral.
"Thirty years of secluded training... and it still wasn't enough." He recalled the battle just now, his eyes flashing with fury. "That Kizaru... he actually managed to break through during the fight!"
Frost Wald stood up and walked to the cave entrance, looking out at the sea. Traces of the battle remained on the surface—large patches of ice were slowly melting, a testament to the fierce clash.
“But this is just the beginning.” His voice was filled with deep resentment. “Since a direct confrontation is no match for him, let’s try another method.”
He pulled a special Den Den Mushi from his pocket, a communication tool he had owned thirty years ago. Although it hadn't been used in a long time, it should still work.
“Brubrubru. Brubru”
The Den Den Mushi rang for a long time before someone finally answered.
"Hello? Who is it?" A gruff male voice came from the Den Den Mushi.
“It is I, Frost Wald.”
The other end of the phone went silent for a moment, and several seconds later came a shocked voice.
"Boss?! Is that you, Boss?! You're still alive?!"
“Of course he’s still alive,” Frost Wald said coldly. “Barton the Bear, where are you now?”
"I'm on Iceland in the North Sea! Boss, you're really alive! That's great!" came an excited voice from the other end of the Den Den Mushi. "I thought... I thought you were already..."
“I’m not that easy to kill,” Frost Wald interrupted him. “Prepare a ship; I need your help.”
"Of course! Boss! I'll get ready right away! Where are you? I'll come pick you up!"
Frost Wald gave his location and then hung up. Giant Bear Barton was his first mate from thirty years ago and one of the few people who knew his true identity.
Over the next few days, he rested in the cave while contemplating his revenge plan.
"Kizaru cares a lot about the Straw Hat Pirates." He recalled sensing Kizaru's inner thoughts during the battle. "If we can capture them, we can force Kizaru to submit."
However, he also knew that the Straw Hat Pirates were not to be underestimated. Luffy's bounty was a whopping 15 billion Berries, and the other members were also quite strong. Even if he were fully recovered, it would be difficult for him alone to deal with the entire pirate crew at the same time.
"We need help. We need more help."
On the third day at dusk, a medium-sized pirate ship appeared near the island. Standing at the bow was a burly man three meters tall, none other than the giant bear Barton.
"Boss!" Barton jumped off the ship excitedly when he saw Frost Wald. "It really is you! I thought I'd never see you again!"
Frost Wald scrutinized his former subordinate. Patton looked considerably older than he had thirty years ago, but his physique remained robust, and his bear-like hands were still as powerful as ever.
"How have you been these years?" Frost Wald asked.
"Not bad, boss," Barton chuckled憨厚ly. "I've built a small pirate crew in the North Blue, with over two hundred men. While it's not as glorious as it once was, it's still a force to be reckoned with."
“Very good.” Frost Wald nodded. “I need your help.”
“Just give the order, boss!” Patton said without hesitation. “Even if it means going through fire and water, I won’t refuse!”
“Get me out of here first,” Frost Wald said. “I need to find a safe place to heal my wounds, and then we can make a detailed plan.”
