[Genshin Impact] A world where only travelers are alone
Chapter 49 Tutor
It’s the first snow.
It rarely snows in Mondstadt, and this rare sight made Cecilia put down the piano and look out the window.
Today is an ordinary day. The schedule filled with various courses is still posted on the wall, which makes people feel stuffy just by looking at it.
But Cecilia has gotten used to it, and the surprising snow scene outside the window is enough to relieve her depression, allowing her to indulge in the tranquility of the moment.
Unfortunately, this leisure time did not last long.
There was a knock on the door.
The timing was just right, just as scheduled.
Cecilia held Qin in her arms again, ready to welcome her new tutor, and then she said, "Come in."
The door opened and the old housekeeper of the Laurende family walked in with a black-haired young man.
"Miss Cecilia, this is the new vocal teacher the master invited for you." The butler introduced in a deep voice.
"Hello." Cecilia stood up from behind the table and walked to the front, lifting her skirt and bowing modestly: "I am Cecilia Lawrence, and I send my greetings to you."
The young man, who was confused by the etiquette, seemed not to be used to such a scene. He smiled awkwardly and said, "Hello, I'm Wendy."
He held out his hand to shake hers.
This is etiquette among civilians - or maybe it shouldn't even be described as etiquette, it's just a simple way of greeting when meeting someone for the first time.
The housekeeper frowned, and his already serious face became even more serious: "Mr. Wendy, please be aware that you are facing the young lady of our Lawrence family, not your friends."
He emphasized the last two words very much, stressing the difference between the two. I believe that if it were not for his upbringing, he would definitely not have used such light words.
Wendy scratched her head in embarrassment.
Although he was unhappy with him, he was appointed by Master Lawrence after all. The butler didn't say anything else. After explaining the precautions, he left.
But when he closed the door, he couldn't help but mutter something. Although Cecilia couldn't hear what he said, she could guess that the old man must be complaining about why her father would find such a person.
In fact, she didn't quite understand it.
After all, the Lawrence family's attitude towards commoners was not friendly at all, and could even be said to be contemptuous. It was completely beyond her expectations that her father would choose a commoner whom she had never heard of to be her tutor.
However, she did not show her surprise, maintaining the gentle smile that a noble lady should have, and took the initiative to give a way out to the person in front of her who was still a little embarrassed: "I'm sorry, Teacher Wendy, the butler is just too old-fashioned sometimes."
Wendy chuckled, "It's okay, it's okay. I understand. After all, I already inquired about the Lawrence family when I agreed to take on this commission."
"Ask?" Cecilia tilted her head, her light blue hair falling from her ears to her chest. "Isn't Teacher Wendy from Mondstadt?"
Cecilia didn't want to describe her family in this way, but in fact, the Lawrence family was the largest noble family in Mondstadt. It could even be said that they had absolute power over the entire city of Mondstadt. It was hard to imagine that there were people who knew nothing about this.
Unless he is not from Mond.
Wendy thought, "Well... I am a genuine Mondstadt person, but if you think about it, I have been away from here for a long time. I have only recently returned, so it is normal that I don't know the situation."
Cecilia nodded in understanding. After a moment of silence, she looked back at the snow outside the window and said, "Leave... In fact, sometimes I want to go outside too."
Unlike her previous tutors, the youngster, named Wendy, did not mind such irrelevant conversations in class.
He agreed: "The world outside is quite beautiful and it is worth it for everyone to go and see it for themselves!"
Perhaps it was because it was her first time meeting such a person, and whether it was Wendy's civilian identity or her experience of having been in other places, Cecilia couldn't help but open up.
She held her chin up and asked, "Where has Teacher Wendy been?"
Wendy stroked his chin and thought: "The rich Liyue, the simple Inazuma, the cold winter... Come to think of it, there seems to be no place I haven't visited."
Cecilia's eyes lit up, and even her voice became a little higher, full of surprise and admiration: "Teacher Wendy has been to so many places!"
The next second, she seemed to realize her own impoliteness and coughed lightly: "Sorry, Mr. Wendy."
"Huh? Why are you apologizing? I really like the way you were just now~" Wendy's eyebrows were curved, and her emerald green eyes looked at her friendlyly, "Everyone will have things that interest them. Isn't it normal to behave like this when talking about those things? On the contrary, the way you looked before, to me, was more like a--" A flawlessly decorated doll placed in the window.
The rest of the sentence couldn't be said because there was another knock on the door.
Wendy looked at Cecilia in confusion, and the latter also had a confused expression. It was obvious that she couldn't think of who would suddenly visit during the vocal lesson time scheduled in the schedule.
After waiting for a long time without any response from the owner, the person outside opened the door himself, revealing the housekeeper's still angry face.
He held a cup of tea in his hand and said in a stiff tone: "Mr. Wendy, please don't say irrelevant things during teaching time. Miss Cecilia's time is very precious and should not be wasted on this."
Obviously, he did not just appear, but had been listening outside the house for a while, and was quite dissatisfied with Wendy's teaching progress which had not even started yet.
Cecilia opened her mouth helplessly, wanting to defend Wendy, but the housekeeper seemed to have seen through her thoughts and said seriously before she could speak: "Miss Cecilia, you don't have to say anything more. I will report this matter to Master Lawrence. The master will naturally decide whether the new vocal teacher should stay or go!" "..." After a suffocating silence, Cecilia lowered her head, "Yes, I understand."
"Oh, is this how you talk to the daughter of the Lawrence family, the so-called noble Miss Cecilia? I am really amazed by your cultivation."
The young man's voice was soft and clear, but his words were full of stinging sarcasm, causing the butler, who was still relying on Master Lawrence's power to scold Cecilia, to freeze.
"You--!" His face turned pale, but he was shocked by Wendy's words. He couldn't find any words to refute for a moment, so he could only point at the latter's nose and keep scolding her.
Wendy smiled, but rudely slapped his hand away: "Excuse me, Mr. Butler, it's class time now. Please don't stay here and waste my precious time teaching Miss Cecilia."
"You didn't just do it like you were—"
"I'm in class!" Wendy interrupted him firmly, then turned her head and winked at Cecilia, indicating that she should leave everything that happened next to her.
He said righteously: "Excellent music should resonate with the creators emotionally. If you want to learn vocal music well, you must first understand Miss Cecilia's preferences. Only by combining music and interests can you play beautiful music that touches people's hearts."
"If you still don't understand, do you need me to explain it again?"
The butler was so angry that he almost wanted to attack him, but he didn't dare to do so when his eyes swept over the blue divine eye hanging on his waist.
After all, no matter in terms of reason or fighting power, he could not compare to the young man in front of him.
In the end, he could only snort coldly, slammed the plate of black tea on the table, and walked away angrily.
Wendy also hummed, but this hum was full of the pride and satisfaction of a winner.
He turned his head and happened to meet Cecilia's sparkling golden eyes. It was obvious that she admired his just-answered behavior towards the housekeeper.
But soon she became disappointed again: "I'm sorry, Teacher Wendy, it's all my fault for asking that question. It caused you to be punished by the housekeeper, and you may even be punished by your father later..."
Wendy waved her hand nonchalantly, and even leisurely poured her a cup of black tea: "Well, don't worry, at least Master Lawrence won't replace me in the short term."
After drinking the warm tea, Cecilia felt a little relieved, but she couldn't help but feel curious about his confident attitude.
She asked blankly, "Why?"
"Because I am the best bard in the world~"
With her index finger on her lips, Wendy raised her lips and smiled, throwing out a wink, "Miss Cecilia, do you want to hear me sing for you about the scenery outside Mondstadt?"
Wendy thought that Cecilia would soon be as excited as she was before when she mentioned the outside world, but this time, for some reason, the girl's cheeks turned red, she lowered her head and was distracted, and after a long while she hummed.
Cecilia handed him her violin.
Wendy tried to pluck the strings, and the clear and ethereal sound made him relax a little: "Oh, it's worthy of the Lawrence family. Even a practice piano can have such a beautiful tone."
The fingertips flew and danced, and soon, a melodious tune echoed in the room, accompanied by the young man's young singing.
Cecilia gradually forgot everything else and was fascinated by the story.
The scenery before my eyes seemed to have changed, becoming unreal and light.
She saw many, many flowers in this gorgeous and misty fantasy.
There is Cecilia with a pure white hat brim, the bright red neon dress outside the inn, the charming Viboya in the dense forest and the soft lanterns swaying on the plains.
Even she herself turned into a flower.
An ordinary, small, inconspicuous dandelion.
The poet's song still echoed in her ears, turning into a wisp of wind, gently and softly holding her in the palm of her hand, and carrying her away to the distance -
*
When the song ended, Wendy looked up again, only to see that the girl in front of her had fallen into a deep sleep without her noticing.
What happened? Did my piano skills deteriorate?
He scratched his head in confusion and looked down at Qin, but when he caught a glimpse of the packed schedule on the wall, he sighed in understanding: "The aristocratic education of the Lawrence family is really strict."
"It seems like you haven't had a good rest for a long time - never mind, it's a good thing to be able to relax a tired person and have a good sleep!"
Wendy took the blanket beside her and covered her with it, her eyes gentle.
"Well, once in a while, have a good dream, Cecilia."
