Chapter 184: The author's IQ is the upper limit of the novel's IQ
The little granddaughter waved her hands triumphantly:
"It's very simple! I tried 1234 and it opened!"
"?????"
Stein looked incredulous.
His eyes shifted from the lock to the notebook and back to the little girl, question marks written all over his face.
"Tao, you are the most powerful mathematician in the world, and you use 1234 as your password? This is a bit abstract..."
Stein smiled bitterly.
Who can guess this correctly?
It turned out that he was thinking too complicatedly.
"Okay, Elvira, go play first. Grandpa is going to be busy."
Stein sent his granddaughter away, sat down with undivided attention, and stared at the open notebook.
He took a deep breath, and when he opened the first page, he was stunned.
There is a handwritten text on it:
"If the infinite possibility exists, I have proved it; if it is not proved, I will become the possibility."
What an arrogant statement.
Behind this sentence, it seems that there is a mathematician who holds the truth and despises all living beings.
Stein became interested in the notebook. He continued to flip through it and found that it contained a diary written by Terence Tao before his death.
Although it is a diary, it does not record every day.
Sometimes Terence Tao would write down some interesting things in his diary every few months, sometimes even every few years.
This contains Terence Tao's understanding of the world and his views on the world...
Stein gently stroked the black notebook, as if touching Tao's soul.
These diaries in front of us are more like a conversation between him and his students across time and space.

2000, April 5.
I was in Trondheim, Norway, having won the gold medal at the International Mathematical Olympiad.
In my spare time before the competition, I finished reading "The Iliad and the Iliad", which tells the glory of ancient Greek heroes.
In my opinion, the so-called glory is nothing more than a tool for superiors to mobilize the enthusiasm of their subordinates.
In essence, it is nothing more than an illusory pie.
There is not much difference between having it and not having it.
From ancient times to the present, over thousands of years of history, no matter what kind of company structure, no matter what kind of dynasty changed, this has been the case.
Glory gives subordinates a sense of satisfaction and makes them feel that their lives are more valuable.

2004, April 8.
Today in a classroom at Princeton University, I solved a difficult problem that has plagued the mathematics community for years, but I didn’t feel a single bit of joy in my heart.
This reminds me of a saying: When you stare into the abyss, the abyss also stares into you.
The profundity of mathematics lies in the fact that it is both the language of the universe and the abyss leading to the unknown.
Every problem we solve raises ten new ones, and every truth revealed reveals a bigger puzzle.
We are always pursuing knowledge, but we can never reach the end.
The growth of knowledge is exponential, but time is linear.
Human wisdom may be great enough, but in front of the universe, it is nothing but sand.
Despite this, I still yearn to solve more mathematical problems, because thinking itself is the meaning of life.
……
2007, April 4.
After reading "Metaphysics", I felt that everything in the world does not exist in isolation.
Contradiction is the nature of the world.
Light depends on the contrast of darkness, and the meaning of life is revealed by death.
True freedom does not lie in being unrestrained, but in being able to truly control your own destiny.
The world has no inherent meaning, but humans can give each thing its own unique meaning.
The world is a blank canvas and each of us is the painter who paints it.
……
2010, April 12.
The entire nature of the universe can be expressed through mathematics.
From the movement of particles to the trajectory of galaxies, from the operation of economic systems to the neural networks of the human brain, all follow hidden mathematical laws.
Mathematics is not an invention but a discovery, and it is the key to the truth.
The seemingly disordered world, such as weather changes, social unrest, and even human emotions, has a complex mathematical structure. Chaos theory and fractal geometry reveal that even in the most unpredictable phenomena, there are deep rules and patterns.
Chaos is not scary; what is scary is eternal immutability.
……
2014, April 9.
I once had a question: If I could choose again, would I still choose mathematics as my lifelong companion?
I think without a doubt yes.
Mathematics is like a starry sky with no end in sight; it is both lonely and magnificent.
Loneliness is that no one can fully understand its depth;
The magnificence lies in the fact that it reveals the truth of the universe to everyone who dares to gaze upon it.
Mathematics is both absolute and relative.
It is simple and complex.
It is both human and beyond human.

2016, April 8.
I'm in Brazil, and it's not surprising that I won the Fields Medal.
My academic research is so advanced that if the United States had not deliberately concealed it, I would have won the Fields Medal for four consecutive years.
But I couldn't be happy. I was thinking about a problem.
From an objective point of view, I am already the most talented mathematician in the world, but when I look back at the deeds of those talented mathematicians in history.
Newton, Gauss, Euler, Ramanujan...
I still feel very insignificant.
Just like the light of fireflies competing with the bright moon.
IQ is a general concept, which includes calculation ability, memory, reasoning ability, thinking ability...
I have always wondered, what is the gap in IQ between me and these geniuses in history?
I thought about it for a long time.
Finally, I found the answer.
The difference is...
Imagination!
Whether it was Ramanujan who relied on communicating with the goddess Magiri in his dreams or wrote more than 5000 complex and difficult-to-understand mathematical formulas without any proof process.
It was Newton who single-handedly led all of humanity to rapidly move away from agricultural civilization.
The imagination these people possess is something I cannot understand and dare not imagine.
If imagination gets a full score of 10.
Newton can only score eight or nine points these days.
And I probably only have one point.
Logically speaking, as the most talented mathematician among the seven billion people on Earth, even if I am not as talented as those geniuses in history, the gap would not be that big.
These geniuses have an imagination of eight to nine points, so I should have at least five points. This is normal logic.
This question bothers me.

2016, April 8.
I have been feeling upset this week, so today I read a world-famous book called "Crime and Punishment".
The author is the Russian writer Dostoyevsky.
The book describes an extremely intelligent protagonist named Raskolnav, and says that his IQ surpasses Einstein.
This raises a question in my mind.
Logically speaking, it is impossible for an author to write a character with a higher IQ than himself.
The author's IQ represents the upper limit of the novel's IQ.
So, if an author wants to write a character whose IQ exceeds that of Einstein, can the author's own IQ exceed that of Einstein?
The answer is no.
If the author's IQ can surpass Einstein, why would he write novels?
Then comes the paradox.
An author whose IQ is not as high as Einstein's can never write a character whose IQ is higher than Einstein's!!
There is no doubt about it.
But the Russian writer Dostoevsky forced himself to write it.
In "Crime and Punishment", he wrote the protagonist Raskolnav, whose IQ surpassed Einstein.
What will happen?
After careful consideration, I came up with two options.
The first result is that the character collapses and is not established, and Raskolnav’s IQ does not surpass Einstein.
The second result is that the character setting is established and Raskolnav's IQ exceeds that of Einstein.
But a protagonist whose IQ exceeds that of Einstein also exceeds that of the author, which means...
He will find out that he is a character in a novel!
If you can't even figure this out, how can you be called extremely smart? How can you compare with Einstein in terms of IQ? (End of this chapter)
