Chapter 548, Song Yu's Rejection and Counterattack

Holding a bright red rose, Li Heng braved the snowflakes to enter the Peking University campus.
The female secretary wanted to call out to him and offer him an umbrella, but seeing that he was in a hurry, she ultimately gave up and did not follow him into the school.
It was already noon. Li Heng hesitated for a moment, then gave up on going to the law school and instead found his way to the girls' dormitory building.
When the dormitory supervisor saw Li Heng again, her attitude was much better than before, knowing that this young man was an extraordinary person.
The news that the beautiful Song Yu's boyfriend is that legendary writer has spread throughout the Peking University campus, and even the dorm supervisors, who have been working there for over ten years, have naturally heard about it.
Li Heng went to the window and said, "Auntie, please call Song Yu from room 202 for me."
The dormitory supervisor was away for a while in the morning and didn't know if Song Yu was in the dormitory, so she simply turned on the loudspeaker and announced:
"Song Yu from room 202! Song Yu from room 202! Your boyfriend is looking for you."
"Song Yu from room 202! Song Yu from room 202! Your boyfriend is looking for you."
Li Heng: "..."
Having visited so many girls' dormitories, this is the first time I've seen such a straightforward dormitory supervisor.
Sure enough, as soon as the loudspeaker made that announcement, many girls stuck their heads out of the dormitory windows, looking down at him and muttering something to themselves.
After putting down the loudspeaker, the dormitory supervisor teased, "You're such a big shot now, don't be shy. The whole school knows you two are a couple, and no boy has dared to approach Song Yu for over a year."
Li Heng found it very helpful and immediately chatted with the dormitory manager in a great mood.
Not long after, two girls came down, looked at him with curious eyes, and then walked up to him and said, "Great writer, Song Yu is not in the dormitory."
Li Heng recognized them; they were all Song Yu's roommates. The girl who was talking to him was called Liu Yang.
He asked, "Do you know where she went?"
Liu Yang replied, "After finishing the second class this morning, I went to the library with Chen Xiaoyu. I should still be at the library at this time."
"Thank you!" Li Heng said sincerely.
Just as he was pondering whether to go to the library, Liu Yang said, "You can sit and wait in our dorm room. They'll usually be back in half an hour at most."
If it were any other boy, Liu Yang wouldn't have said such a thing without thinking, and he knew the dorm supervisor wouldn't allow it.
But the dorm supervisor in front of me will definitely give me the green light.
Sure enough, the dorm supervisor chimed in, "The weather's changed today, it's cold outside, going to their dorm is a good idea."
Before he could reply, Liu Yang tentatively asked, "How about I take you to the library to find her? I know where they are."
Seeing Song Yu's eagerness, Li Heng didn't stand on ceremony and said, "Okay, thank you for your trouble."
The two then walked toward the library one after the other.
Because the roses he was carrying were so eye-catching, and because he was a celebrity, it didn't take long for many students at Peking University to know that the popular writer had arrived.
Just as he lifted his leg to climb the steps, Li Heng had a sudden thought. He felt someone watching him from afar, so he looked up at the library entrance.
This!
really!
Sure enough, there was someone there, and to my great surprise, it was Song Yu, whom I had been longing for day and night.
After more than two months apart, Song Yu, dressed in pure white, had undergone some changes in her demeanor. Her words were lingering, her breath was as delicate as an orchid, and her cool demeanor revealed her intellect. She was more beautiful than before, and her temperament was more refined.
She stood in the swirling snow, holding a black cloth umbrella, gazing at him.
Beside her was her inseparable best friend, Chen Xiaoyu, who was carrying a gray umbrella.
Seeing his face suddenly light up with joy as he ran towards her, Song Yu took a few steps forward, tilting the umbrella over his head, and asked with concern, "It's not a holiday today, why are you here?"
Li Heng said happily, "I was writing my new book last night and suddenly missed you so much that I wanted to see you. So I got up early this morning and rushed to the airport."
The desire to see someone without any reason is the true sign of longing.
His voice wasn't loud, but Song Yu could hear the sincerity in his words.
Under the umbrella, the two looked at each other. She felt the deep affection in his eyes up close and realized that the man in front of her was afraid that once he started writing his new book and entered a world of self-forgetfulness, he would be unable to get away for a long time, so he rushed to see her now.
Li Heng handed her the roses in his hand: "Here, you take them, I'm not available right now."
Song Yu subconsciously took the flowers and asked, "What's wrong...?"
But before she could finish speaking, he wrapped his arms around her with his free hands. She was immediately at a loss for words, realizing that it was inconvenient for him to hug her while holding the flowers.
At that moment, many alumni passed by, and the windows on the second and third floors of the library were crowded with heads, all staring intently at this heartwarming scene.
One girl said, "Wow! I wish I had a boyfriend like that. He's handsome, talented, and most importantly, romantic. He's my dream prince charming."
The girl next to her mocked, "See, you're dreaming again. Even if you had a guy like that, you couldn't hold onto him. You'd need Song Yu's beauty and charm to succeed."
Thinking of Song Yu's beauty and temperament, the girls nearby were speechless. There was no comparison; the difference was too great, so great that they didn't even feel a little jealous.
After a while, someone else said, "Have you read the newspapers? Many literary critics are predicting that 'White Deer Plain' will be the strongest contender for this year's Mao Dun Literature Prize."
"Of course, I'm determined to win the Mao Dun Literature Prize this year with 'White Deer Plain,' who else but me?" This person was clearly a die-hard reader of Li Heng.
One girl even said, "Hey, keep your voices down, you're disturbing my view of the handsome guy."
One girl murmured in agreement: "That's right, this is what you call a perfect match, so enviable."
"..."
Two months later, when he held her in his arms again, Song Yu felt no sense of unfamiliarity, but rather an indescribable sense of comfort and naturalness.
She nestled quietly in his arms, looking at his face with a faint smile. After a long while, she said, "Alright, let go of me. Everyone knows who I am. You can't run away in a short time."
Li Heng raised an eyebrow, clearly displeased, and said, "What do you mean? Run away? You're all my men now, and you think you can just run away?"
Song Yu stared intently into his eyes with a composed expression, smiling without saying a word.
Gazing into her eyes, Li Heng had a thousand words to say and a hundred feelings to express, but faced with her insightful eyes that seemed to see right through one's soul, he was speechless, unsure of where to begin.
What should I say?
Having lived two lives, he has always remained carefree and composed, no matter who he is facing.
Whether facing Xiao Han and Zi Jin, or Teacher Yu and Teacher Wang, whether it was Mai Sui or Da Qingyi, he always maintained his confidence, his sense of control, and his ability to maintain a proper balance. He never allowed himself to become too passive or completely lose his way.
But Song Yu was the only one he fell in love with at first sight. Li Heng had no good way to deal with her, or rather, he couldn't bear to make things difficult for her or let her suffer the slightest grievance.
He admired her in his past life, and his love for her remains as strong as ever in this life. In both past and present lives, she is the most special person in his heart.
Song Yu gently brushed away the thin snowflakes from her head and said quietly, "You haven't had lunch yet, have you? Wait for me at the dormitory lobby entrance. I'll go back to my dorm and come down."
Hearing this, Li Heng released her at the opportune moment, "Okay."
Back at the entrance of the girls' dormitory building, Li Heng remembered something and said, "Didn't I say I'd treat your roommates to lunch? Ask them if they've eaten lunch today. If not, let's eat together. Just say it's the big spender's treat, eat whatever you want."
Song Yu smiled beautifully, handed the umbrella to him, and then, under the watchful eyes of everyone, entered the dormitory building with roses in her hands.
Song Yu left, but Chen Xiaoyu, who was standing next to her, didn't. The latter was scanning him with a strange look in her eyes.
It's a real scan.
Chen Xiaoyu's gaze moved back and forth over him, from top to bottom and then from bottom to top.
In his previous life, Li Heng was very familiar with this Miss Chen because she was a frequent visitor to Song Yu's home. Often, when he was not in the capital, she would even stay at his home to accompany Song Yu.
As far as I can remember, her marriage wasn't exactly happy. Apparently, she couldn't have children, and later felt guilty towards her husband, so she took the initiative to divorce him. After that, she and her sister Song Yu huddled together for comfort, practically living and eating together.
Oh, right, Chen Xiaoyu later became the president of Renmin University.
Li Heng turned around and greeted, "Hello, Chen."
Chen Xiaoyu asked, "Were you scared by how I looked at you?"
Li Heng said, "That's not the case. I'm often admired by beautiful women like that."
Chen Xiaoyu laughed: "No wonder you're a legendary writer, you're so good with words."
Perhaps because of her wealthy family background, she didn't seem as reserved as other girls when they met Li Heng. She then asked, "Between you and Song Yu, who pursued whom?"
Li Heng retorted, "Didn't you ask her?"
Chen Xiaoyu said, "I asked her, but she wouldn't tell me."
Li Heng said, "With her personality, how could she possibly pursue someone? I'm the one who won her over."
Chen Xiaoyu seemed very interested in this topic, "How long have you been pursuing her?"
How long did they chase after him?
I'm still pursuing her, okay? Don't think that just because she's forced to admit she's my girlfriend in public, we still treat each other with the utmost respect in private.
Li Heng thought to himself, but said aloud, "How long do you think it will take me to catch up?"
Chen Xiaoyu actually thought about it for quite a while before giving a time limit: "One year?"
Li Heng asked, "Why one year? Not half a year? Not two years?"
Chen Xiaoyu tilted her head and said, "Because I think you're super charming. We can't find a guy like you at Peking University who has both looks and physique. Even the stunningly beautiful Song Yu wouldn't dare to keep you hanging on forever."
I know you fell in love with her at first sight in your first year of high school. Giving her a year is already the greatest respect you can show her. If you drag it out any longer, she'll be snatched away by another woman.
Li Heng smiled but remained silent.
Chen Xiaoyu pressed on, asking, "Are you a devoted man?"
Li Heng asked, "What do you think?"
Chen Xiaoyu studied his face for a while, then shook her head: "I can't tell anything from him. But I think you must be very popular with women, and have quite a few female confidantes in Shanghai, right?"
Li Heng coughed lightly: "Miss Chen, how many times have we met?"
The implication is that we're not that close yet, so let's not touch on privacy issues.
Chen Xiaoyu looked around and said, "It has nothing to do with how many times we've met. I often talk about you with Song Yu, and I feel like we're old friends already."
She then said, "You shouldn't be a conventional person."
Li Heng's eyelids twitched: "Since you've put it that way, I can't be too cliché, can I?"
Chen Xiaoyu covered her mouth and laughed: "Since you're so interesting, I'll tell you a secret."
Li Heng pricked up his ears: "What secret?"
Chen Xiaoyu said, "Don't let Song Yu's aloof demeanor fool you; she's read each of your books at least 10 times."
Song Yu came down, along with Liu Yang and another roommate named He Jingjing.
The restaurant was found by Chen Xiaoyu, a local. Luckily, there were still private rooms available when they arrived.
As soon as they sat down, He Jingjing took the menu and asked Li Heng, "Great talent, can we order whatever we want?"
Li Heng readily agreed, "Of course. Go ahead and order whatever you want. If you show any disrespect to your stomach, it's all my fault."
"Hehe, then I'll really order. Give us a roast duck." Although He Jingjing said she was going to rip him off, she only ordered one dish and then handed the menu to the others.
Next, each person ordered one dish. When it was Li Heng and Song Yu's turn, they discussed and ordered five dishes at once, which made a total of eight dishes: five meat dishes, two vegetable dishes, and a soup.
Liu Yang said, "We ordered too much; the five of us can't finish it."
Song Yu laughed and said, "It's okay if you can't finish it. It's rare for him to have time to treat you to a meal, so don't worry about saving him money."
With the hostess speaking up, and considering Li Heng's terrifying net worth, the women immediately felt relieved and chatted happily.
Liu Yang leaned forward and asked Li Heng, "By the way, great writer, our principal once joked at a conference that you almost came to Peking University, is that true?"
Oh girl, you really know how to bring up the most sensitive topics.
Can't you see Song Yu?
After internally complaining for a moment, Li Heng said seriously, "My first choice was Peking University, but unfortunately I missed it by one point."
Song Yu gave him a meaningful look, then whispered something to Chen Xiaoyu before ordering a few bottles of beer and soda.
He Jingjing asked, "You two have such a good relationship, will you get married after graduation?"
As soon as the question was asked, all the girls' eyes fell on Li Heng.
Song Yu was an exception. She poured two cups of tea slowly and deliberately, placing one in front of him and holding the other in her own hands to warm it, taking a small sip in between.
Li Heng didn't answer directly, but instead tilted his head and asked Song Yu, "Will you marry me after graduation?"
Upon hearing this, Chen Xiaoyu, Liu Yang, and He Jingjing turned to Song Yu with gossipy expressions.
Faced with a hot potato deliberately thrown at her, Song Yu naturally knew what he was thinking. Staring at the tea in her cup, she said with great composure, "Everyone says behind your back that you are very romantic, but my parents are traditional people. They propose first, then get engaged."
She had already been driven to desperation in front of her roommates.
Openly rejecting Li Heng? That's absolutely out of the question.
Otherwise, their affection would be exposed, turning into a farce and a pipe dream.
Li Heng seized on this point, which is why he redirected the question of whether to get married after graduation to her.
Because anyone can see that he really wants to marry Song Yu.
Therefore, the decision-making power fell into Song Yu's hands.
If it weren't for Xiao Han, Zi Jin, and Mai Sui, Song Yu's answer would only be one word: "Okay."
But yesterday, Chen Zijin told her that Xiao Han's mother and older sister had gone to Lushan Village, which was a big blow to her.
Therefore, she never mentioned marriage, and whether it was a proposal or an engagement, anything that didn't lead to marriage was full of uncertainties.
She was a Buddhist-like person and didn't want to get involved in the "Nine Princes' Succession Struggle" in a big way. However, due to pressure from her family and the face of her grandparents and parents, she had to spare some of her attention.
Having spent a lifetime together in their previous life, Li Heng was well aware of the underlying meaning in Song Yu's words. He sighed inwardly and pondered inwardly where he had gone wrong.
The three women, unaware of the intricacies of the situation, assumed Song Yu had agreed, and enthusiastically began discussing marriage: Was a traditional Chinese wedding better? Or would a Western wedding be more novel? Should they have bridesmaids, and so on…
Song Yu smiled and responded to her roommates one by one, her appearance showing no sign that she had just stabbed Li Heng in the heart.
The dishes arrived, and they tasted good, but Li Heng found them uninteresting, merely chatting perfunctorily while eating.
Song Yu seemed to see through his absent-mindedness beneath his smiling exterior. She paused for a moment, then picked up her chopsticks and served him several of his favorite dishes.
After he and his roommates had finished their round of beer, she picked up her glass and said to him, "Let's have one too."
Facing each other, Li Heng asked with his eyes: What? Are you going to give them a good beating first, and then offer them a sweet treat?
Song Yu understood his gaze, and with a faint smile, she downed the wine in her glass in one gulp, displaying a rare boldness.
Li Heng only drank half a glass of beer.
Seeing this, Song Yu gently wiped the red oil from the corner of his mouth with a tissue.
Li Heng finally felt better and finished the remaining half glass of beer. The women were completely dumbfounded. Could it be that the stunningly beautiful Song Yu had this side to her? Not only was she personally serving food to her boyfriend, but she was also wiping his mouth? She looked every bit the perfect wife and mother.
He Jingjing pretended to clutch her chest, and said with envy and jealousy, "Mr. Li, is Song Yu always like this to you?"
Li Heng glanced at Song Yu and asked playfully, "You're not usually this nice to me. Should I lie?"
Song Yu smiled and pretended not to see it.
Li Heng grinned and said happily, "I'll tell you in secret, but don't tell anyone else. She usually treats me even better than this. Today, she's already being very restrained in public."
Song Yu was speechless. This man was like a leech, always able to find a way to bring up anything related to her.
We laughed and chatted for almost an hour during the meal.
After the meal, Chen Xiaoyu and her two friends returned to school.
Li Heng asked her, "Do you have class this afternoon?"
Song Yu replied, "Yes."
Li Heng asked, "How many classes?"
Song Yu said, "Full class."
Li Heng asked, "Do you want to go to class?"
Song Yu stared quietly into his eyes, smiled calmly, and said, "I just offended you, so I'll skip class and keep you company."
Li Heng reached out and took her hand. "Don't worry, I'm not petty."
Song Yu glanced down at his hand, thought for a moment, and then didn't struggle, letting him hold it.
The snow fell heavier and heavier, and the two tacitly headed towards Xila Hutong. When they pushed open the gate of the courtyard house, Li Heng found that the courtyard was full of winter plum blossoms.
He pulled her around for a bit, then asked in surprise, "Did you grow this?"
"Ah."
Song Yu hummed in agreement and asked, "Do you like it?"
Li Heng turned his face toward her: "Do you even need to ask? Look at the expression on my face."
Song Yu smiled at him and tried to pull her hand away, but he held on tightly. She tried a second time but failed. In the end, she had no choice but to lead him into the house.
As soon as she entered the room, she began to speak: "Tell me about Xiao Han."
Li Heng was taken aback, his gaze lingering on her back for about ten seconds before he belatedly realized what the problem was.
He took a deep breath and asked without any hope of getting away with it, "You knew everything?"
Song Yu went straight to the sofa, sat down, and said, "I know."
After he finished speaking, the air suddenly became quiet.
Only the neighbor's child was crying loudly.
The child must have done something wrong and was hit. The mother who hit the child was extremely angry and kept swearing at the child for about ten minutes. The child's grandmother had to intervene to calm things down.
Just when the crying finally stopped, the wind picked up outside. The north wind was so strong that it pushed the front door open. Snowflakes fell all over the doorway.
Li Heng had no choice but to get up, close the door, and bolt it shut to keep the biting cold out.
Under her gaze, he sat down beside her and finally broke the silence, recounting in detail the story of Xiao Han's mother's trip to Shanghai.
He didn't embellish anything; after he finished speaking, he shut up and waited.
Song Yu listened patiently, then this time pulled her right hand away from his: "Xiao Han is fine."
Li Heng paused, then said, "It is quite good."
Song Yu said, "Given all this, you should marry her."
Li Heng was taken aback, then slowly forced himself to calm down, and said in a low and honest voice, "I am a greedy person, you should understand my intentions."
Song Yu remained silent.
Just as he was trying to find a topic to talk about, Song Yu seemed to be muttering to herself, "Last night, I had the same dream three times."
Li Heng turned his head, his face full of concern: "What dream?"
Meeting his eyes, Song Yu slowly said, "You got married, but the bride wasn't me; it was Xiao Han. I was watching from the sidelines, and Xiao Han looked absolutely stunning in her red wedding dress."
Li Heng's heart clenched. "Three times, it's the same scenario?"
Song Yu said yes.
Li Heng persisted: "What happens next?"
Song Yu looked away, avoiding eye contact with him. She stared out the window for a long time before saying, "After you went into the bridal chamber, I fainted, and my mother took me away."
For no apparent reason, Li Heng felt a heartache so intense he felt like he was suffocating.
This dream felt so real.
In her past life, when she married Xiao Han, Song Yu didn't attend the wedding, but she actually fainted in Beijing, and Chen Xiaoyu took her to the hospital.
After fainting and leaving the hospital, Song Yu entered one of the two darkest periods of her life, losing more than 20 pounds in a month.
Li Heng's eyes were a little moist. He reached out again and hugged her tightly from the side.
He rested his chin on her head of black hair. "This is just a dream. I want to marry you."
Song Yu asked calmly, "And what about them?"
Li Heng hesitated for a moment, then forced himself to say, "They are my women too."
Song Yu's lips twitched slightly, as if she wanted to say something but hesitated several times. In the end, she didn't say anything, slowly closed her eyes, and was held in his arms.
If it weren't for Zijing and Xiaohan, if Maisui hadn't gotten involved, she would have been willing to be loved, and she would have been willing to love, and she would have married him without hesitation.
But whenever she thought of Zijing and Xiaohan, Song Yu, who was just in the strange world, became hesitant, indecisive, and reserved.
Feeling the passion in Song Yu's emotions recede like the tide, Li Heng wasn't surprised, but he was still somewhat disappointed.
About two minutes later, Song Yu got up from his arms without any warning and went to the window. Dressed in white, she looked out at the twilight sky and remained silent for a long time.
A few minutes later, Li Heng also came to the window and stood next to her. After a while, he said, "My parents have been wanting to meet you."
Song Yu turned her head to look at him.
Li Heng truthfully said, "They questioned me, asking what I was up to by getting involved with so many girls, and who I wanted to marry in the future. I told them your name and clearly stated that I would marry you."
Song Yu turned her gaze back to the window. "You want to take me over to the Drum Tower area today?"
"There's no time like the present, why don't you come with me today?" Li Heng asked expectantly.
Song Yu fell silent.
After a long while, she gradually came to her senses and said hesitantly, "Later, I don't want to move today."
This is her way of politely declining.
If it weren't for Xiao Han's mother going to Lushan Village, even if she felt ashamed and hesitant, she wouldn't have refused him in the end and would have gone to the Li family with him.
Alternatively, since Gulou is Zijing's territory, and she doesn't want to escalate the conflict rashly, she might ask Li Heng to bring his parents over for a meal.
After Zijing told her the news yesterday, she tossed and turned in bed all night and barely slept.
During their summer vacation at Dongting Lake, the two shared a bed, and their feelings for each other were becoming increasingly clear. At that time, she was already somewhat prepared to become a daughter-in-law of the Li family.
But Xiao's mother's trip completely disrupted her mind.
She knew that Li Heng truly loved her and treated her sincerely without any lies, but she just couldn't accept it for a while.
Song Yu also pondered this. Xiao Han and her daughter had only gone to Lushan Village the day before yesterday, and the news had already reached her yesterday through Zi Jin. The speed of the information made her suspect that this was a scheme set up by Xiao Han and Zi Jin to force her to back down.
She knew perfectly well that this was most likely a conspiracy by Zijing and Xiaohan, but she still fell for it.
The reason she fell for him was simple: she took relationships very seriously and was a pure person when it came to love. After that night at Dongting Lake during the summer vacation, Li Heng completely occupied her mind and body, leaving her no room to spare.
Hearing her refusal, Li Heng felt a tightness in his chest that he had never felt before.
The snow fell heavily, like jade dust falling from the sky, creating a magnificent scene.
Seeing that he was lost in thought, Song Yu understood that her rejection had given him an unprecedented sense of frustration. After thinking for a moment, she couldn't bear it and gently asked, "Do you remember the movie we watched last Mid-Autumn Festival?"
Li Heng's thoughts returned, "I remember, John Lone and Joan Chen starred in 'The Last Emperor'."
Recalling the past, Song Yu smiled and said, "Back then, you asked me, between John Lone and you, who is more handsome? You said you were more handsome."
Li Heng asked, "Am I worse than him?"
"Not bad, you can be considered a real handsome man."
With an elegant and refined air, Song Yu continued, "Come with me to see a movie."
Li Heng was so frightened that he didn't dare to move, and blurted out, "Is this going to be the last movie?"
The last film means the last movie shown.
He was terrified that she would say something like "let's part ways amicably."
Song Yu stared into his eyes with her dark eyes, as if she could see through his fear. Then she smiled, took his hand, opened the door, and pulled him outside.
Seeing this, Li Heng breathed a sigh of relief and looked at the lovely girl in front of him, wondering: Is it Song Yu, is she that kind-hearted woman, or has she taken pity on him?
She didn't want him to come to the capital only to find it empty-handed, so she took him to see a movie.
Although the Lushan Village incident is not over and will not be easily forgotten, she used the act of watching a movie to preserve his last shred of dignity and give him a way out.
At this moment, Li Heng did not ask the two to discuss marriage directly, but only hoped that their relationship would remain the same and not deteriorate.
"Aren't you going to use an umbrella?" he asked.
Song Yu held his hand as they walked through the snow. "Are you afraid of catching a cold or getting a fever?"
The wind was a bit strong, and Li Heng shouted loudly, "I'm a real man, I'm not afraid!"
Song Yu turned around and smiled: "If you really catch a cold, I'll stay with you."
It is said that the most beautiful smile is a smile that can charm a hundred hearts when you turn around, and Li Heng was momentarily captivated by it.
Looking at his expression, the word "idiot" came to Song Yu's mind.
As she pondered this, a blush crept onto her face, and she turned back to pull him along, quickening their pace.
I took a few breaths before running to the nearby movie theater.
Perhaps after a long period of bad luck, fate was on his side this time. He managed to buy tickets for "Red Sorghum" just as he entered the cinema, and the two of them happily followed the crowd into the screening room.
Because they arrived late, the two were seated at the very back.
The film "Red Sorghum," directed by Zhang Yimou and starring Jiang Wen, Gong Li, and others, was a well-received domestic film released in China last month.
The film is adapted from Mo Yan's novella "Red Sorghum" and "Sorghum Wine". Set in Gaomi, Shandong during the War of Resistance against Japan, it tells the story of a man and a woman who break through the shackles of feudal tradition and run a sorghum winery together after many twists and turns. However, during the Japanese invasion, the female protagonist and the winery's employees are tortured and killed by the Japanese army for participating in the resistance movement.
The film was incredibly atmospheric and easily stirred the audience's emotions. For the entire 91 minutes, everyone in the theater watched with rapt attention.
Like many women in the audience, Song Yu shed tears at the poignant moment. She wiped away the tears with her fingers and suddenly said, "You'll be 20 next year."
Li Heng hummed in agreement, still engrossed in the movie.
Song Yu said, "I'll come to Lushan Village to celebrate your birthday next Dragon Boat Festival."
Li Heng's heart skipped a beat, almost jumping out of his throat.
His first thought was of wheat.
My second thought was of Teacher Yu in the small building across the street, number 25.
The third thought was Xiao Han.
But he couldn't, and dared not, express these things directly. Instead, he turned slightly to the side and asked, "Really?"
Song Yu met his gaze. "Are you welcome?"
Li Heng said happily, "I'd be laughing in my sleep. I was just worried you'd have too many classes and wouldn't be able to get away."
Song Yu knew exactly what he was thinking, but she didn't expose him. Instead, she quipped to herself:
"Now that the leaders of Peking University all know that I am your boyfriend, I'll skip a few classes to celebrate your birthday. With your reputation, they shouldn't make things difficult for me."
Hearing this, Li Heng felt a mixture of joy and worry.
The good news is that Song Yu did not ignore him or distance herself from him because of the Lushan Village incident.
There are too many worries to list on a single page.
He was actually quite surprised. He knew that Mai Sui was at Fudan University and in Lushan Village, but Song Yu chose to go there, which was something he hadn't expected.
This is also inconsistent with Song Yu's past habits.
Could it be that Wei Shiman's visit to Fudan University really triggered her? He wondered.
I can't figure it out right now, so I can only attribute the reason to this.
As we left the movie theater, she asked, "It'll be dinnertime soon, where would you like to eat?"
Li Heng said, "Anywhere is fine."
Song Yu asked, "How about going to our school cafeteria? Today is Wednesday, and Xiao Feng and I usually meet up there around this time every week."
Li Heng agreed.
