Chapter 7 Raising Monsters
The city of Bianliang was one of the largest metropolises during the Song Dynasty, with a population of one million and a mixed crowd. It was full of opportunities and vitality.

On both sides of the long street, there are restaurants, teahouses, martial arts arenas, theaters and brothels that are overwhelming. In addition, the Bian River runs through the entire city, with endless pleasure boats on it, hiding countless romantic events.

Li Qingyun followed behind Song Ke and the thugs of the Arhat Hall, walking through the spacious streets that were wide enough for several carriages to pass side by side. His eyes were attracted by the shoulder-to-shoulder crowds and the endless stream of carriages and horses. He sighed from the bottom of his heart at the prosperity and bustle of the Chinese land a thousand years ago.

As soon as he entered the East Market, he unconsciously glanced at an arena where a crowd of people gathered.

Sitting on the stage was a shirtless bald man with muscular body, a green tiger head tattooed on his back and a full beard. He was holding a ghost-head knife in his arms and meditating to relax his mind.

In the cage opposite him, there was a mouse as big as a calf. Its gray fur was shiny and its sharp teeth were exposed. It was gnawing on a large piece of fresh meat. Its two blood-red eyes were rolling around, full of hostility.

From under the ring, a loud shout was heard:

"Everyone, the third round of the East City Arena this month, the mutant rat demon will fight against the Taishan Sect's famous master, and the match will start in half an hour. Is the demon more talented, or is the martial arts better? Who will win will be decided at noon! Please place your bets quickly, don't miss this opportunity!"

Li Qingyun was secretly frightened and stopped subconsciously.

He knew that the Northern Song Dynasty was different from the history he had learned, but he did not expect the difference to be so huge.

In the city of Bianliang, even mutated monsters can openly fight in the streets, and the onlookers look as if they are used to it. This shows how strange this world is.

Suddenly, he felt the "soul-devouring" magical power in his body stirring, as if a lion or tiger had discovered new prey and was full of desire to eat.

Li Qingyun immediately understood that the flesh, blood and demonic power of the mutated rat demon was his best nourishment.

"This kind of monster can provide me with the vital energy I need, but where can I get it? Do I have to go up and fight in the ring myself?"

He was thinking to himself, but found that Song Ke had stopped at some point, stood beside him, and spoke slowly in a somewhat angry voice.

"This was also our business before..."

what?
Li Qingyun was somewhat puzzled:
"Does our gang have any connection with monsters?"

Song Ke looked at him expressionlessly and explained patiently:
"Boss, when your grandfather was alive, at least one-third of the gambling-related businesses in East Bianliang City were under the name of our Changle Gang. It was not until the past ten years or so that we were slowly eroded and swallowed up by later comers such as the Golden Wind and Rain Tower and the Lotus Society due to our lack of strength.

"This kind of competition and banker game was pioneered by our guild, but it's not that fancy. We just pay martial artists to fight each other for fun. But the Golden Wind and Drizzle Tower has a way to raise monsters, and it's very gimmicky and exciting, so it developed and became a trend."

Is this a farmed monster?
Li Qingyun was slightly surprised by the bizarreness of this world, but at the same time he became interested.

If we can get the method of raising monster beasts, wouldn’t we have a stable source of energy and blood?

Then he thought of another question:
"They raise monsters to fight with humans. Don't the government have any objections?"

Song Ke sneered:
"Of course there are objections. Kaifeng Prefecture originally banned the raising of monsters, but later on, I don't know what means the people from the Golden Wind and Rain Tower used to get through the Grand Tutor's Mansion and convince the government to issue an imperial decree to abolish the ban. Of course, it is limited to the breeding of a few small monsters that do little harm."

The Jinfengxiyu Tower has the means to breed monsters, and it seems that they are at odds with our Changle Gang.

Li Qingyun secretly sorted out the information he knew and quickly made a decision.

Then, he glanced at Song Ke and found that this man was quite interesting.

Although he clearly hated himself from the bottom of his heart, he always respected his superiors and subordinates, spoke his mind without hesitation and showed all the necessary courtesy.

Although he was young, he was very principled. He was lost in thought, lowered his eyelids and stopped talking, quietly following Song Ke all the way to the Guanyin Temple in the center of the city.

The Song Dynasty's Bianliang City was different from the previous Tang Dynasty's Chang'an City. It did not have neatly planned market towns, and vendors were allowed to extend their shops into the wide streets, commonly known as "invading the streets." This made the East Market look a bit chaotic, but quite lively.

Li Qingyun looked around and saw that the green bricks and tiles were filled with pedestrians and vendors everywhere. It was densely crowded and very prosperous.

"Our Changle Casino is in front."

Song Ke introduced it lightly, but he didn't turn around and his eyes were always looking forward.

His right hand subconsciously grasped the hilt of the knife, and his back slightly arched, like a leopard ready to pounce.

After Li Qingyun received the initiation, his martial arts skills improved and he became more sensitive to aura. He quickly noticed Song Ke's nervousness and couldn't help but become alert.

The opponent this time is the wealthy Jinfengxiyu Tower. Not only can they raise monsters, they can also connect to the Grand Tutor's Mansion. They have means in both the black and white worlds, so they are indeed not easy to deal with.

Unfortunately, this group of people are not only the mortal enemies of the Changle Gang, but are also suspected of mastering the methods of breeding monsters. Both publicly and privately, they are opponents that Li Qingyun cannot escape from.

This is not because he, as a time traveler, has a strong sense of belonging to the Changle Gang, but is purely out of the instinct for survival.

Once the Changle Gang is annexed, people as strong as Song Ke will naturally be recruited, and perhaps their treatment will be even better than it is now. However, as the gang leader, he is a thorn in the eyes of the other party, and they will definitely not take it friendlyly.

In this case, it is better to strike first and use the gang under your command to give it a try.

Li Qingyun was secretly calculating, when suddenly an inspiration struck him and the puppet in his arms started moving again.

The eerie aura became stronger and stronger; even through the clothes, one could feel the chill seeping into the body.

He took out the puppet and looked at it. Under the two completely black eyes without whites, he saw a thin bulge twisting and wriggling, as if something inside was about to break out of the shell.

The next moment, there was a slight crisp "pop" sound, and the bulge burst open gently, revealing two small black holes, which quickly took the shape of a nose.

Li Qingyun had seen the puppet open its eyes before, so he was mentally prepared for this strange phenomenon.

What comes next? A mouth, or ears? Once the facial features are formed, what happens next?
Faced with a powerful enemy, he could only temporarily suppress his curiosity, hide the puppet back in his arms, and then secretly use his "Soul Devouring" magical power to devour the newly generated foul air.

[Remaining Qi and Blood: Five Spirits]

After replenishing his qi and blood, Li Qingyun's weak state was relieved. He felt full of strength again and became more confident.

He looked at the puppet again, and saw that as the foul air was sucked out, its eyes that had just opened and its newly appeared nose disappeared, and it returned to its strange appearance without any facial features.

What a weird object.

Li Qingyun was thinking about it when he suddenly heard a muffled "bang".

I saw two figures flying out of a shop facing the street in front of me, falling heavily on the street, raising a large cloud of dust...
