Chapter 144: "Transformation into a Dragon" and "The Great Ming Tribulation"

Chapter 144: "Transformation into a Dragon" and "The Great Ming Tribulation"

The last month of 83 has arrived, and Xia even feels that this year was a bit rushed.

On December 12, the 3th Asian Games was held. This was an unprecedented event in the history of Asian sports and attracted a lot of attention in China.

As a "sports athlete", Xia Tian also actively and passively obtained a lot of information, especially from Tianqi's information. In the end, we won 61 gold medals, 51 silver medals and 41 bronze medals.

This is the first time that we have surpassed the Japanese team, which has always been the first place in the Asian Games, in the total number of gold medals and ranked first.

From then on, the Japanese never surpassed us again - this was somewhat of a sign.

On the second day of the Asian Games, the top leaders decided to resume the X song...

You wouldn’t have thought that even after singing for so many years as a child, there were actually some ups and downs.

What Xia Tian and his friends discussed for a long time was what was passed at the meeting...

There is a ghost, terminate the transaction!!!

That afternoon, when the friends were having a party and discussing this matter, Ye Jing cursed on the spot.

Friends from other compounds also spoke sharply and felt that it was inappropriate.

On the contrary, the friends of the Hutong children remained silent.

"No, why don't you say anything?!" Ye Jing was angry and glared at Xia Tiandachun and the others. He seemed to be angry at them for not fighting back.

Glasses pushed his glasses up and said, "It's fine if you guys just talk about it, but can we just say whatever we want?"

At this time, Dachun spoke, as if he was stunned and just reacted.

He said, “The worker…became a man.”

Glasses was shocked and sat up straight: "Fuck, is this something Dachuner can say?!"

Seeing everyone looking at him, Xia Tian waved his hands repeatedly, "Don't look at me, I dare not say this..."

Xia Tian avoids talking about the decisions made by his superiors.

However, after returning home, he was inspired and started painting.

An oil painting of Western fantasy theme.

When Milan was halfway through the painting, he felt strange and asked, "Who is this young man in armor?"

"warrior."

"What about this dragon?"

"The dragon that stole the princess and the treasure."

"Then why does the warrior have a golden vertical pupil in one of his eyes? And on his face, are these scales?"

"Yeah..." Xia Tian nodded.

A young brave man holding a sword and shield, stepped on the ferocious black dragon's corpse with blood all over his body. The expression of surprise on his face was still there, but it had grown faint scales, and one of his eyes had turned into a golden vertical pupil...

The last painting was named "Transformation into a Dragon" by Xia Tian.

……

Within two days, good news came - Fangyan was demobilized and returned.

People like them who come back after two or three years usually come back.

In the summer, a group of them would go to the station to pick people up and then have a big meal.

Fangyan seems to be doing well in the army. He still looks nonchalant and his face has become rounder due to overeating.

According to him, "My buddy has decent writing skills, so writing for the team is not very hard."

He was rather "cryptic" and was not too comfortable revealing that he had published several short articles in some military publications and that he also wanted to communicate with Xia Tian about them.

After that, he was assigned to work in a pharmacy in West City.

Wow, I haven’t even been working for three days and I’ve already been complaining for two and a half days!

"This is the job description of a drugstore salesperson. What else do you want to do?" Glasses continued.

But people like Fangyan always have a feeling that their ambitions are unfulfilled and their great ideals are buried.

A few days after Fangyan returned, on the 15th, the first Mao Dun Literature Prize award ceremony was held in the Great Hall of the People.

In 81, according to Mr. Mao Dun's will, his 25 yuan in royalties were donated to establish the Mao Dun Literature Prize.

This award aims to promote and commend novelists and their works.

At that time, it was stipulated that the selection would be held every three years. Works that participated in the first selection but did not win awards could still win awards in the next selection or even in future selections.

The Mao Dun Literature Prize is one of the highest awards for novels in China.

Mr. Jinghongke is not qualified to judge the award. After all, the novels he wrote are either martial arts or popular stories, which are not good subject matter.

However, he did attend the conference as an audience member. There were more than 600 participants. Xia Tian was a relatively famous author in Yenching University. Although he had no achievements in pure literature, he was also invited to attend.

——"Chi Ling" will not be published until the first issue of "October" next year.

Of course, Xia Tian had no intention of getting involved in the field of pure literature.

However, the day after attending the grand event, another piece of bad news came. …

Xia Tian was writing furiously in his small living room. On his desk were several large books. Looking carefully at the titles, they were all related to the history of the Ming Dynasty, especially the late Ming Dynasty.

Next to him is the painting "Transformation into a Dragon" that was completed just a few days ago. It is mainly red and black in color, and carries an indescribable sense of depression.

Just two days ago, Dr. Jiang Weihe, who had been treating Xia Tian since he was a child, passed away.

But that was a happy funeral. Although Dr. Jiang looked very healthy, he was already 94 years old. A very old man!

Xia Tian attended the farewell ceremony. There were a lot of people there. Xia Tian just bowed, presented flowers, and also sent a wreath.

But later, Doctor Jiang's son, Doctor Jiang, who was in his sixties, gave Xia Tian a box of medical books.

Many of them were handwritten and left by Doctor Jiang Weihe before his death.

"Although my son is also studying medicine, he is studying Western medicine. I'm afraid he won't be able to use these things at home. The old man wanted to give these things to you before he died, so I'll give them to you now..."

Xia Tian returned home with a box of ancient Chinese medical books and sat there for a long time without moving.

The second half of this year is really a bit difficult for him to accept.

In just three months, three elders passed away and I attended three funerals, just one after another.

Look at the box of medical books that have not been opened yet, and then take another look at the painting "Transformation into a Dragon".

He suddenly had an idea that he wanted to write a story about a famous doctor in the late Ming Dynasty.

He picked up his pen and wrote three words...

Fifty thousand words, written in four days in the summer.

This is very slow for him.

He writes almost instantly, and it is rare for him to repeatedly ponder, adjust the structure, and optimize the dialogue.

It wasn't until the morning of the fourth day that Xia Tian finished the manuscript.

Xia Tian went next door and said to Milan: "I have to meet someone at noon, so I won't be back for dinner. I'll bring something back in the evening..."

Milan had a bite to eat at noon, then went to Xiatian's room to pack up the clothes that needed to be washed.

See the finished manuscript on the desk.

She had never dared to disturb Xia Tian’s creation. At most, she would watch carefully from the side but dared not say a word.

Now you can finally take a look.

She had never seen so many corrections on Xia Tian's manuscript!

The first thing that catches your eye is the name of the novel - "The Ming Dynasty Tribulation".

"The Tribulation of the Ming Dynasty", 50,000 words.

The protagonist of the book is a doctor named Wu Youke, a famous "infectious disease expert" in the late Ming Dynasty. He correctly understood infectious diseases and wrote the book "On Plague".

Of course, Milan, who read the novel, didn’t know this.

Most people only know a few famous ancient doctors, such as Bian Que, Hua Tuo, Zhang Zhongjing and Sun Simiao.

The story begins in the fifteenth year of Chongzhen. Wu Youke, who was originally an imperial physician at the Imperial Hospital, could not stand the lowly life and became a traveling doctor...

Then he experienced a series of chaotic events among the people in the late Ming Dynasty from his perspective, during which he described how he used medicine differently from ordinary doctors.

In the end, Wu Youke and Sun Chuanting, a famous general in the late Ming Dynasty who gave up his pen to join the army, treated the plague in the army together. They realized that the plague was caused by an "evil spirit" rather than ordinary typhoid fever, and finally joined forces to fight against the army of King Chuang...

Milan read it for a while and began to understand. This novel seemed to be about the story of Doctor Wu discovering the source of the plague and curing diseases and saving lives, but it was actually about the deep-rooted diseases of the Ming Dynasty.

The emperor was suspicious and forced the army to send troops. The army was poorly trained, disease was rampant, and weapons were outdated. Land was annexed and the gentry were stingy. Even the famous general Sun Chuanting could not continue...

Later in the novel, Sun Chuanting asked Wu Youke: "Sir, do you think that the Ming Dynasty is really terminally ill?"

Wu Youke said: "All dynasties have risen and fallen. The reason for this, I think, is that they all... focus on the art of controlling the world, but neglect the art of governing the world. Our dynasty has been plagued by problems for a long time, and it cannot be cured by a single drastic measure."

There are several short plots in the novel that made Milan feel distressed.

Sun Chuanting discovered that the granary was actually full of sand, and then he stabbed the official in charge of the granary to death with a sword in anger, but when he looked up, he saw the official's child on the second floor looking down.

Then, Doctor Wu discovered the source of the disease and isolated and treated it. There was a very young boy who had recovered from the disease, but begged Doctor Wu to let him pretend to be sick because he did not want to go to the battlefield and wanted to go home to see his mother.

Because the man was indeed young, Doctor Wu felt compassion and kept the matter secret.

Who would have known that in the end, in order to ensure that the army could march out without any worries, Sun Chuanting would simply take drastic measures and burn down the sick camp.

The whole article reveals an unspeakable sadness, a sadness that everyone is wrong, yet no one is wrong, and one cannot help oneself.

At the end of the novel, Xia Tian wrote a poem called "Linjiangxian".

The muddy waters are rolling for 30,000 miles, I am sitting alone on the lonely peak with a sad face. Dragons hide and lions sleep, waiting for the storm. Those who are ruthless are all cowards, those who shed tears are also heroes.

The long sword leans against the sky, the stars are shining, the past and present are gone in the eyes. The universe is up and down, let the poverty and prosperity be decided. Half a circle on the sea, a reed on the east of the Yangtze River.

In addition, out of emotion, Xia Tian also wrote some author's thoughts outside the article, which are about the end of the dynasty syndrome...

In short, Milan felt a little uncomfortable reading this novel.
