Chapter 63 Court Session
Chapter 63 Court Session
On Wednesday morning, fat boss Johnny was pushed into the Jingang City City Court in a wheelchair by his daughter, where his case was heard today.
Jingang City is very prosperous, so there are many cases that need to be heard in court every day. Some small cases will go through the fast court, but criminal cases such as injury must have a formal trial process.
You have to give both the accused and the plaintiff the right to defend themselves and assert their legal rights, which is written in the Charter.
"I'm a little worried, Dad." The fat daughter sat next to him. The smell on her body was a bit strong, and even Johnny could not stand it.
He was very suspicious whether her boyfriend had rhinitis, or whether his daughter had some special ability that could make a man not leave her.
Of course, these thoughts only flashed through his mind. He maintained a confident expression, "I have consulted the lawyer. This is just a small case. There won't be any surprises."
In fact, the two had discussed this issue twice, but the fat daughter still felt a little uneasy, "but they hired a lawyer."
Johnny felt a little annoyed when he talked about this, and his voice unconsciously became louder. This is almost a common problem among the lower class people.
When they are questioned, they try to prove that they have more reason by raising their voices!
"I told you, I have consulted a lawyer. I am the indisputable victim. They can't let the judge ignore my current miserable condition and conclude that I was the only one who beat them up just because I hired a lawyer!"
"So the outcome of this matter is just how much money they can compensate me and whether I forgive them, that's all!"
As we were talking, a gentleman in formal attire suddenly came over. To be honest, it is mid-to-late September now and the weather is the hottest, so wearing a full suit would be a tough act.
If nothing unexpected happens, this person is a lawyer, because only a lawyer would dress so neatly.
"Mr. Johnny?" The lawyer was a little arrogant. He stood in front of him with a haughty look, and raised his hand casually, waiting for Johnny to reach out and shake his hand.
That condescending look made Johnny feel humiliated, even though the other party did nothing but just said one word.
After three seconds, he nodded, then indicated that he couldn't shake hands, "It's me, so..."
The lawyer withdrew his hand and turned his head. Only then did Johnny tilt his head and see a few young people sitting and laughing on the other side of the corridor.
He still remembered how cruelly these people attacked him. Those painful memories resurfaced and his blood pressure began to rise. "You want me to forgive them?"
The lawyer shook his head. "I mean you can settle out of court. I know it may sound excessive to you now, but..."
Before he could finish his words, Johnny roared, "I am the victim. I am the one who decides the final outcome of this lawsuit, not you!"
"Now, get out of our sight with your damn arrogance!"
Johnny looked back at his daughter and said, "Push me somewhere else. I feel sick when I see people who will do anything for money!"
The fat daughter looked at the lawyer awkwardly, "I'm sorry, I..."
The lawyer shrugged nonchalantly and said, "It's your choice." He shook his head and turned to walk towards the young people.
The fat daughter pushed Johnny aside and said, "You shouldn't say that about him. He's a lawyer. It would be easy for a lawyer to cause trouble for us."
Johnny didn't care at all. "If he wants to come, then let him come. These vampires won't come to do anything if there's no benefit. Why do they want us to settle out of court?"
"I'm telling you, don't even think about it!"
When he thought of his miserable plea that night and their brutal behavior that ignored his plea, it was no longer a question of money for him. What he wanted was to vent his anger!
The fat daughter felt even more uneasy. "You should at least listen to what he has to say, maybe..."
"Don't even think about it. Even if I die and fall from here, I won't listen to even one more word from him!"
No one could control Johnny's temper. Maybe the woman who had left him could do something, but she left.
The fat daughter sighed, "I think we're going to screw this up."
Johnny snorted coldly and said nothing. He was already thinking about telling the judge in court how despicable these lawyers and those little devils were, just like in some movies he had seen, with righteous words. The lawyer returned to the young man and showed a regretful expression, "The other party refused to settle out of court, so now the only thing I can do is to make you pay as little money as possible and spend as little time in jail as possible."
The parents of several young people wanted to talk to Johnny again, but the lawyer thought this was not feasible, but of course he would not stop them.
This is indeed the case. After they explained their purpose, Johnny simply told them to get out of here, which made these parents very angry.
Although their children did something wrong, it had nothing to do with the adults, and they came with good intentions.
More than twenty minutes later, the court officially opened. Johnny was pushed to the plaintiff's seat by his fat daughter. Then the judge hurried in, looking very tired.
After a series of court opening ceremonies, the judge looked at Johnny and asked, "Is your lawyer late, or did you not hire a lawyer?"
Johnny shook his head. "Your Honor, I have consulted with a lawyer, and he thinks that I don't need a lawyer to defend me in a case that is easy to see through at a glance."
The judge wanted to laugh, but held back. "I'll keep an eye on it." Then he looked at the young men in the dock and their lawyers. "The plaintiff didn't hire a lawyer, so let's start with you."
The lawyer stood up and bowed. "I'd like to trouble you to take some time to hear this case. I'm Anthony, a lawyer from the Diamond Law Firm. I'm currently handling this case."
"Your Honor, first I need to introduce my client..."
The lawyer produced some materials and told the judge that at least four of his clients were diagnosed with manic disorder and showed violent tendencies.
At the same time, he said that the whole case was not a crime of passion or a random crime. They were just a group of young people who were blinded by friendship and lost their reason.
At the request of their good friend, they tried to retaliate against the boss who oppressed and exploited the apprentices, but because they were young, psychologically immature, and had a tendency to violence, things had serious but not irreparable consequences.
He presented several documents, including proof that the children had actively participated in community volunteer work and that they had completed high school courses with at least a C+.
Their neighbors also testified that these children are usually very sensible and obedient, and are willing to help other people in need in the neighborhood.
In short, he produced enough evidence to prove that it was just an accident and that there was no subjective criminal intent.
Then naturally, the person who needs to bear the main responsibility for all these consequences becomes the apprentice.
The apprentice's mother blew the lawyer's mouth several times as the last thing she could do for her son before she left, and she had done it.
Considering that the pretty woman allowed him to tease her, the lawyer finally agreed to defend the apprentice.
However, he also told the apprentice's mother that there was a high probability that he would go to jail. The best expected outcome was three to five years, with a high probability of around five years, which was the limit of what he could do.
If she could come up with at least fifty thousand dollars, then he could try to defend the apprentice's innocence, and then reduce his sentence to about one and a half to two years, and then get him out directly through other means.
But unfortunately, the apprentice's mother did not have the money, and even if she started to use her expertise to make money now, it would be too late.
That's the benefit of hiring a lawyer, but Johnny didn't know that.
After the judge looked at all the documents, he found that it was indeed as the lawyer had said. These young people could not be said to be excellent, but they were at least qualified federal juveniles.
He glanced at Johnny who was sitting there stupidly, and then asked the lawyer, "I noticed that you mentioned in this document that this young man named... was oppressed and humiliated."
The lawyer turned and glanced at the apprentice, who stood up. "Indeed, your honor."
The judge pursed his lips and said, "Can you please tell me how he humiliated you?"
He glanced down again, "Does it mention your mother?"
