Chapter 27 The Frail and Incapable Boss

Chapter 27 The Frail and Incapable Boss
Cheng Mai couldn't be bothered to argue with him over such a trivial matter.

However, as a modern person with the perfect gossip genes of his ancestors, Cheng Mai still curiously asked his boss if he had taken a fancy to the movie queen.

Shang Xingjian glanced at her indifferently, and Cheng Mai fell silent.

She tried several times but couldn't make a sound. Finally, she mouthed a curse and that's when she stopped.

Then, Shang Xingjian took out his phone and searched for Qin Mai's information.

Cheng Mai glanced at him and then looked outside. What a scumbag, forgetting all principles for the sake of beauty.

"Stop cursing me in your heart, I can hear you," Shang Xingjian reminded him calmly.

By the time they arrived at the construction site, it was completely dark. The driver was still muttering to them, saying that someone had just died in the area and it was not a safe place, so they shouldn't stay any longer.

As soon as they got out of the car, the driver immediately started the car and drove away, which shows that they were really scared.

There were still people holding banners outside the construction site; they hadn't left.

Cheng Mai and Shang Hangjian entered the construction site from behind.

The construction site was deserted, with only a mess on the ground, indicating what had happened there during the day.

The shopping mall was mostly built; I stepped onto the gravel and entered the building.

"Boss, what did you notice?"

"A mere trick." Shang Xingjian said indifferently, grabbing Cheng Mai's wrist and drawing a line between her fingers. Blood dripped onto the ground, shattering the barrier.

"Hiss..." A sharp pain shot through his fingertip, and Cheng Mai abruptly pulled his hand back. "What are you doing?"

"Break the formation," Shang Xingjian said, his voice already faintly audible.

"Does it have to be my blood?" Cheng Mai pinched his wound and glared at Shang Xingjian.

"No, it's mainly because I'm using mine, and my hands hurt too." As soon as she finished speaking, Xiaoqian and the others ran over.

Cheng Mai took a deep breath, repeatedly reminding himself that he couldn't win, he couldn't win.

"Boss, Mr. Cheng, what brings you here?" Xiao Qian asked curiously. "We've surveyed this place, but we didn't find anything wrong."

Cheng Mai clenched his fingers and looked at Xiao Qian, "Didn't you realize you were trapped inside?"

"Huh?" Xiaoqian looked around, and finally looked outside. It was already dark.

“It’s a spirit that binds the earth.” Shang Xingjian looked up. The building was not yet topped out, and from here you could see the starry sky outside.

"A Bound Earth Spirit? Impossible. If it were a Bound Earth Spirit, I would have been able to detect it. Boss, are you sure you're not mistaken?" Xiao Qian pondered again, still unable to figure out what might be here.

"Hehehe, at least one who knows their stuff has come." A sharp voice came from all around, accompanied by a sinister atmosphere.

It sounded like the voice of a woman in her sixties.

Cheng Mai rubbed his ears. It was that same wailing sound again. Couldn't these demons and monsters update their voice packs?
Xiao Qian's eyes widened suddenly. It really was a Bound Earth Spirit! He hadn't noticed!

Cheng Mai took a step closer to the shop owner and asked in a low voice, "Boss, she doesn't even recognize you."

"Why would she know me, a mere mortal?" Shang Xingjian said, pulling Cheng Mai in front of him and making her face the oncoming Bound Spirit.

Cheng Mai: "!!!"

The earth-bound spirit had a wrinkled face, its eyes wide like copper bells, and it bared its teeth, trying to scratch Cheng Mai with its dirty, long fingernails.

Fortunately, at the crucial moment, Xiaoqian reliably grabbed the old woman's foot and pulled her back.

Cheng Mai was terrified and glared angrily at Shang Xingjian.

Shang Xingjian patted his chest, looking startled.

"That scared me to death."

Cheng Mai was furious; he had never felt such a strong urge to kill.

"You audacious fiend, surrender now!" Xiao Qian and his men clashed with the old woman. The old woman cackled, "You callow brats?"

While the fight raged on the other side, Shang Xingjian leisurely strolled back and forth in the unfinished building, muttering dismissively, "It scared me to death, it was so terrifying."

He kicked the bricks on the ground carelessly, showing no care or attention whatsoever.

Seeing that Xiao Qian was still a match for the time being, Cheng Mai didn't want to listen to Shang Xingjian's perfunctory calls, so he simply plugged his ears and sat down on the ground.

After pacing around for a moment, Shang Xingjian turned back, intending to say something to Cheng Mai, but his gaze fell on the rock where she was sitting.

"Little fool, come here." Shang Xingjian paused for a moment, then called out loudly.

Cheng Mai ignored his greeting, since he was calling for an idiot, not himself.

Cheng Mai ignored Shang Xingjian, but the old woman suddenly seemed to be provoked and attacked Cheng Mai frantically.

Cheng Mai sensed danger and hurriedly got up, only managing to avoid the attack thanks to Shang Xingjian's embrace.

Shang Xingjian took a step back while holding Cheng Mai. Xiao Qian and the others entangled the old lady again, but this time the old lady stuffed the stone that Cheng Mai had just been sitting on into her arms.

"I told you to come here, but you wouldn't listen," Shang Xingjian said gloatingly.

"Why did she suddenly go crazy?"

"You're sitting on someone's son's ashes; they're being kind by not eating you," Shang Xingjian explained kindly.

"Then can't you explain it clearly?" Cheng Mai jumped off Shang Xingjian and patted the dirt off his body.

"I told you to come over," Shang Xingjian said matter-of-factly.

"you……"

"Boss, stop flirting! I can't take it anymore!" Xiaoqian shouted.

"Whoever comes here, I'll make them pay with their lives for my son!" the old woman roared, attacking Xiao Qian even more frantically, and showing utter disdain for Shang Xingjian, "A mere mortal, once you're in, don't even think about leaving."

"Oh dear, I've told you not to come in here, not to come in, why won't you listen?" A young Taoist priest rushed in from outside, carrying several talismans in his hand.

With a flurry of swift movements, they quickly immobilized the old woman and shouted for them to leave immediately.

Even outside, the young Taoist priest was still muttering to himself, thinking that Xiao Qian and the others were risking their lives for money.

"We already told General Manager Zhu that we can resume work in a few days, but he just won't believe us." The young Taoist priest said, looking at Shang Xingjian and Cheng Mai, "You two are also Taoist priests?"

Cheng Mai glanced at Shang Xingjian, who seemed frightened and helpless, and said, "We came here for tourism and accidentally wandered in. Luckily, these young Taoist priests saved us."

"You guys are really unlucky. This place is usually very safe, but there have been a lot of things going on lately, and you just happened to be caught in the crossfire." The young Taoist priest said, looking at the pale-faced Shang Xingjian. "How about this, my Taoist temple is not far away. I see this gentleman is frightened, why don't you come to our temple to rest for the night?"

"That's troublesome." Cheng Mai grabbed Shang Xingjian's arm and pinched it where the little Taoist couldn't see.

"Senior brother, would it be convenient for us to stay here for the night as well?" Xiao Qian immediately said, "All Taoist temples under heaven are one family. We were also tricked into coming here to make a living."

The young Taoist priest looked at Xiao Qian and his group of fellow Taoist priests, who had just fought the earthbound spirit for a long time and were not in good condition.

The young Taoist priest said, "Alright, but you must leave first thing tomorrow morning and don't come to Fengcheng again."

"Definitely, definitely," Xiaoqian replied immediately.

Xuantian Temple is located halfway up the mountain behind the temple, and it is the most popular Taoist temple in Fengcheng.

The group arrived at the entrance of the Taoist temple, and the young Taoist priest went in to inform the abbot.

Shang Xingjian stood in the courtyard, looking up at the plaque of Xuantian Temple, his gaze darkening.

Xiaoqian returned after circling around and whispered, "Boss, the one enshrined inside is Genga Shinjun."

"Lord Xuanhe?" Cheng Mai murmured, then subconsciously looked at Shang Xingjian. Wasn't that him?
"You're a believer?" Cheng Mai clicked his tongue.

"Swearing so filthyly?" Shang Xingjian said calmly, though he seemed offended.
