Technological practice: leading the human race to the stars
Chapter 127 Remarks on the launch
Chapter 127 Remarks on the launch
In fact, I no longer had much hope for this book, and I even wanted to cut the book out of it many times.
Let me first talk about some of the reasons why the performance of this book has gradually become dismal.
First, I admit that I have read relatively few online novels, and I am still stuck in the stereotype of the Five Whites in the Central Plains; I am very rough about sweeping the list, and I disdain to use systems, cheat codes, or even time travel.
Second, they fail to realize that in a long serialized work, too many foreshadowings will greatly affect the reader's reading experience.
Third, there are too many special techniques used in the first volume. For example, flashbacks are used repeatedly, and there is even a chapter that has multiple nested flashbacks and switches between the first person and the third person.
Fourth, I did not correctly accept my identity as a newcomer and was a bit impatient for quick results. As a result, when the results were not good, my fluctuating mentality caused me to repeatedly change the title, introduction, and content of the first volume.
Below is some more detailed analysis.
Regarding the first question, I have read online novels by other five writers of the Central Plains except Meng Ru Shen Ji in the past, and I particularly like the book "I Eat Tomatoes", which contains some elements that pay tribute to "Devouring the Starry Sky".
However, in the past five or six years, not only did I stop writing, I haven't even read any online works, let alone physical books.
After being asked by the editor to scan the charts, I didn't learn it thoroughly. After changing the title, introduction and opening several times, I just reached a level that was good enough to sign the contract.
This caused me to waver between my original style and the style of online literature, and at one point I almost lost the original intention of writing, so the first volume met you in a very distorted state.
Black Cat is very sorry about this!
This led me to later name the first volume "Prequel", and through some techniques, I made sure that even if I skipped the first volume, there would not be too much reading difficulty.
The second problem is that I overestimated my current writing level, which is one of the reasons why the first volume was so ugly. But fortunately, after resuming writing during this period, I found the original feeling again.
To solve this problem, I started from the second chapter, and each time a major event ended, I would briefly review the foreshadowing and unresolved events.
To prevent readers from forgetting.
The third problem is also one of the reasons why the first volume seems rather confusing.
In the follow-up, I have simplified unnecessary techniques as much as possible, and I will try my best to get close to the readers.
The fourth problem is that I may be a little too proud of my writing experience.
This leads to a slow pace and confusion in the early stages.
I was depressed for a while because I couldn't achieve any results. I was at a loss as to what to do and even my work was almost affected.
But I quickly cheered myself up. What I was going to write was a story about the protagonist’s growth, a passionate group portrait. How could the author run away first?
As you can see, these questions are intertwined, and there is a progressive relationship between each question, but from a certain perspective they are independent of each other. However, they are clearer because they are divided into four categories.
This is pretty much how I approach plot, intertwining and yet able to push each other forward.
After I finished writing the first volume, many people advised me to stop writing and cut it off, but I didn't want to give up this book.
Because this is my first full-length science fiction novel, not to mention that it has always been my dream. Several bookcases at home are now filled with many of my popular science books and science fiction magazines.
My heart told me to persevere.
As for practice, I started writing some science fiction short stories in the third grade of elementary school and submitted them to children's literature magazines at that time, as well as some other children's magazines.
As I got older, I read more books, but my passion for science fiction never died out. I have always tried to submit my works to science fiction magazines. The most famous one I have submitted to is probably Science Fiction World.
This habit lasted until my junior year in college. The pressure of life suddenly increased, and writing books as a hobby could not support me to survive in this society.
After that, my habit of writing science fiction novels stagnated for about five or six years. Under heavy pressure from society, I suddenly turned my attention to online literature, and Qidian, as the place where many great writers preached, was definitely my only choice.
But my family still complains about me until now. If I had focused all my energy on studying during my student days, and stopped playing games, reading magazines, and writing idle books, I should have been able to find a better job than I have now.
But everyone, can studying well change all this? This is one of the original intentions of my writing this book. Another original intention is based on my thinking about the future of mankind.
I remember when I saw that South Korea had made a breakthrough in room-temperature superconductivity last year, I was extremely excited and kept explaining to others what room-temperature superconductivity technology was.
A colleague was very confused and asked me why I was paying attention to this matter. We are all people who get paid honestly. We can't get a raise or more holidays. What's there to be excited about?
This is what I told her at that time: our current industry is basically the remnants of the dividends from the initial boom of the Internet, and there is nothing left; and domestic industrial upgrading is also facing challenges and blockades from various countries, and they don't want to be swept up by us.
My two original intentions determined that the first thing the protagonist did was to overturn the fictional world he lived in, and then rebuild order and lead the human race out into the interstellar space.
Therefore, I had to describe many supporting characters. Unlike traditional novels that only focus on making the protagonist invincible, the original plan was to create a group portrait with the protagonist's growth as the main thread.
To overthrow the old order, one needs to build up one's own power; to establish the old order, one needs the joint efforts and cooperation of multiple parties; and to make the human race stand on the interstellar stage, it requires all human beings to work together and stand up.
"They are the heroes who burn themselves to illuminate the blue planet. They may be weak warriors or scientists who lead the advancement of scientific research.
It is they who, with their fearlessness and tenacity, lead humanity onto the interstellar path and open a new chapter.
When the rest of humanity, carrying their names and ideals, set out on the interstellar journey, they discovered the incomparably cruel side of this universe..."
This hardly gives the male protagonist enough time to show off. Apart from occasionally challenging those unintelligent source beasts, he is always growing up the rest of the time, which seems not satisfying enough.
The second thing is how the protagonist leads the gradually united human race to face the challenges from the universe. The universe at this time is not the universe that everyone widely believes, and the law of the dark forest is gradually becoming ineffective.
I won’t spoil the plot here. I would like to write some comments and understandings of netizens about my article.
One day, a netizen pointed out that it did not qualify as an online article. You should just want to write a good book, and online articles are about writing a good-looking book.
I talked to him for a while, and he also said that these two points are not contradictory. There are books on the Internet that are both profound and have fascinating plots, but there are very few works that can combine these two points, and there are almost no authors who can maintain these two points for several books.
So he thought that I was on an impossible path, especially for a newcomer like me who was full of arrogance, I was on the road to failure from the very beginning.
Perhaps if it didn't involve interstellar and science fiction elements, he felt that this subject matter was more suitable for urban channels. Later, I often used this to joke that I had chosen the wrong channel.
But if you write well, you will have the opportunity to shine anywhere. The so-called gem covered by dust does not exist. It is just a little consolation for myself.
Another time, someone in a book club pointed out a structural problem with me, saying that I didn’t divide the paragraphs carefully enough, which resulted in the text being all clumped together when I read it on my phone, which didn’t look very good.
Another reader said that the first volume of my book was almost pure foreshadowing, and the story continuity was not very good, so it was easy for people to give up reading it.
It may be destined to fail, but which protagonist has not gone through untold hardships and finally stood proudly in the world? Even if he is invincible, he will go through all kinds of hardships and return to the top.
And I always believe that fantasy has become our last hope of every day. No matter our status, we can all equally enjoy the strange world in which we become the protagonists in front of the book.
But perhaps there should be no distinction between high and low in the world. Online literature embodies the ideals of countless people who are unwilling to succumb to reality and is their last corner to fight against reality.
The souls of online literature readers are equally noble!
Why do we say that traditional literature is noble?
I believe that everyone who has crossed the line with life has his or her own understanding.
Finally, I want to tell everyone that Black Cat will never give up. Even if I don’t make any money, I will continue to finish writing.
After I become a V tomorrow, I will try my best to update twice a day, and update more frequently occasionally. If I have something to do, I will ask for leave in advance and will not abandon you all without reason!
Please give me more suggestions. I hope my writing will get better and better!
Thank you all for your support!
