Chapter 726 Successful Report Teaching Newcomers
Chapter 726 Successful Report Teaching Newcomers
The next day.
new week.
There's a lot to do today.
First, get to know the people in the materials science department.
I met Zhao Xiaohai and Liu, a few people, the day before yesterday. Section Chief Qian didn't introduce them to me. There are still a few people I haven't met yet.
Second, submit the report that was agreed upon earlier.
After confirming the report was in hand one last time, Li Kailang felt relieved and went to the steel rolling mill.
Materials Science.
Zhao Xiaohai and the others had been notified in advance and arrived a little early, waiting for Li Kailang's arrival.
"Here he comes! Deputy Section Chief Li is here!"
Zhao Xiaohai, with his sharp eyes, spotted the unusual Li Kailang through the window at a glance.
It's hard not to notice him because of his muscular build and towering height.
Immediately, the people from the Materials Science Department looked out the window.
"I didn't expect our new deputy section chief to be so strong. He could kill someone with that punch!"
"Yeah, look at those arms, they're twice the size of mine. I can't mess with them."
"Absolutely! That physique!"
They talked in twos and threes.
Section Chief Qian also appeared behind the group and coughed lightly twice.
"Section Chief."
"The person is coming. Remember the rules I just told you?" Section Chief Qian looked at Zhao Xiaohai, Accountant Wang, and the others.
The warning I gave them the day before yesterday was naturally meant for them to pass on to others who weren't present at the time.
"Don't worry, Section Chief Qian, we know what to do," Clerk Liu nodded in response.
"Yes, yes, we all remember." Zhao Xiaohai nodded repeatedly.
The others nodded in agreement.
Section Chief Qian nodded: "Good, but I still want to reiterate, don't mess with him unless it's absolutely necessary."
"They'll only stay here for two months and then leave. If they cause any trouble, don't blame me for not helping them out of consideration. It won't be of any use begging me then."
The group remained silent and simply nodded.
Realizing the awkward atmosphere, Section Chief Qian clapped his hands and smiled: "Alright, everyone get ready, perk up, and let's welcome our new deputy section chief."
The atmosphere suddenly became much better.
A short while later, Li Kailang entered the Materials Science Department.
"Welcome, Deputy Section Chief Li!"
As soon as they stepped through the door, a chorus of voices rang out, accompanied by enthusiastic applause.
Li Kailang was startled by the sudden commotion, but then smiled.
"Thank you! Thank you everyone!"
Section Chief Qian appeared beside him at just the right moment.
"Deputy Section Chief Li, everyone from our Materials Section is here today. Let me introduce you to some people."
"You know that, Zhao Xiaohai."
"Hello, Deputy Section Chief Li!" Zhao Xiaohai stepped forward, chest out, head held high, back ramrod straight, his voice exceptionally loud.
But standing close to Li Kailang, the sheer size difference between them made him feel a little intimidated.
"Hello, hello!" Li Kailang replied with a smile.
Then, Section Chief Qian introduced the next person, a man around forty years old, wearing a faded Zhongshan suit.
"This is Lao Liu, Liu Fugui, a senior member of our department. He's in charge of some of the daily account reconciliation. People call him 'Slowpoke Liu.' You'll know why he's called that later."
This is the same staff member Liu I met the day before yesterday.
Liu said slowly, "Hello, Deputy Section Chief Li! I'm grateful for everyone's kindness in working in this section for a few years. From now on, you can just call me by my nickname."
"Okay, please guide me in the future." Li Kailang naturally wouldn't greet him like that right away.
Section Chief Qian immediately introduced the next woman, a middle-aged woman who was always fiddling with an abacus, wore glasses, and had slightly large finger joints.
"This is Accountant Wang, who is in charge of the accounting and statistics of our Materials Department. If you have any accounting problems in the future, just look for her."
Li Kailang didn't understand why she called herself Accountant Wang. The Materials Department wasn't responsible for cashiering or expense invoices, so what did this mean? But he didn't press the matter.
"Accountant Wang, I look forward to your guidance in the future."
"Not at all, I still have a lot to learn from you," Accountant Wang said modestly.
The next one is named Zhang Wei. He looks about the same age as Li Kailang. He seems to have a quiet personality, which is the opposite of Zhao Xiaohai's.
The others were introduced one by one, each with their own distinct demeanor: some were slightly reserved, some tried to appear calm, and some had inquisitive eyes.
After the introductions, Li Kailang had a general idea of what to expect.
Section Chief Qian glanced at his watch: "Alright, it's getting late. Deputy Section Chief Li, let's go to the meeting. We have a factory work meeting every Monday."
"A meeting? Should I go?"
In the past, it was always Zhang Jinwu who went to the transport team; he had never been there before. At most, he had participated in the team's scheduling meetings.
It's a bit unusual to suddenly have to attend a factory-level meeting.
Section Chief Qian replied matter-of-factly, "Of course! Deputy Section Chief Li, you are now the legitimate deputy section chief of our Materials Department."
"Don't worry, there won't be anything important at the meeting. If there are important matters, we won't be allowed to discuss them. Just bring a pen and paper and go through the motions."
Li Kailang understood and nodded: "Okay, I understand. I'll get ready now."
Along the way, we saw many unfamiliar leaders, not just him, but even Section Chief Qian was a stranger.
"My goodness, how many people are missing from the leadership team? I don't recognize almost half of them."
Section Chief Qian couldn't help but sigh, "This purge is quite powerful; even I find it unfamiliar."
He wasn't in the mood to talk to anyone, and turned to Li Kailang: "Let's go inside."
The large conference room was filled with smoke, and the long conference table was surrounded by heads of various departments.
Li Kailang sat down next to Section Chief Qian at the Materials Department's table.
Many people were attending a factory meeting for the first time, their gazes sweeping around the meeting room with a mixture of curiosity, inquiry, and indifference.
Before long, Director Yang and a group of factory leaders walked in, and the conference room fell silent.
Looking at the group of new faces below the stage, Director Yang nodded in approval. Although the purge had resulted in heavy losses, he was still satisfied.
But it's also good to be able to rebuild a steel rolling mill with bright sunshine and clean up a bunch of parasites along the way.
After clearing his throat twice, Factory Director Yang began, "...Comrades! The past week has been turbulent for our factory."
"Fortunately, we withstood the hardship. Everyone here will have to endure some difficulties for a while."
"Our factory is at a critical juncture. Everyone must unify their thinking, raise awareness, and work together with one heart..."
It was mostly empty talk and platitudes, interspersed with a few verbal praises and criticisms.
Section Chief Qian was clearly well-versed in this matter; his eyelids were drooping as he listened, and he symbolically scribbled some inaudible words on his notebook.
Li Kailang glanced at it; it looked like scribbles, with the head nodding slightly.
Only when Director Yang's gaze seemed to sweep over the materials department did Section Chief Qian suddenly snap out of his daze and pretend to take notes earnestly. Li Kailang, on the other hand, listened attentively, not because the content itself was particularly valuable, but because it was his first time attending and he found it quite novel.
After a long and tedious hour, the meeting finally ended, and everyone stood up with a sigh of relief.
Section Chief Qian yawned and stood up: "Let's go, we should go back to work in the department."
Li Kailang was about to leave with Section Chief Qian when he saw Factory Director Yang beckoning to him: "Little Li, come here for a moment."
Seeing this, Li Kailang looked at Section Chief Qian and said, "Section Chief Qian, the factory director is looking for me. I'll go now."
"Go on, don't keep Director Yang waiting." Section Chief Qian looked at Li Kailang's retreating figure with envy.
"Director Yang," Li Kailang greeted.
Factory Director Yang nodded, gesturing for Li Kailang to follow: "How was it? How was the trip to the materials department? Did you encounter any problems?"
"The materials department is great. This morning, Section Chief Qian introduced me to everyone in the department. So far, we haven't encountered any problems; it's mostly just looking at documents and such."
Factory Director Yang nodded: "You're new to the Materials Department, so learn more, observe more, and talk less. Get familiar with things this week. In this department, don't strive for merit, just avoid making mistakes."
"Your current focus should be on your studies and graduating smoothly; you can put everything else aside for now."
“Yes, Director Yang.” Li Kailang nodded in agreement.
After saying a few words, he told Li Kailang to go back to work.
Materials Science.
After Li Kailang returned, he took the report and went straight to Section Chief Qian's office.
"Section Chief Qian, this is the report you asked me to write last week. I've finished it. Would you like to take a look?"
Section Chief Qian glanced at Li Kailang with a look of surprise in his eyes. He hadn't expected him to actually do it. He then took the report.
"Let's talk about the core of this report."
Li Kailang succinctly reported the core content of the report, mainly mentioning two measures that can be implemented in the near future: "quality inspection emergency plan" and "standardization of quality inspection records".
It was particularly emphasized that the "quality inspection emergency plan" should no longer allow quality inspectors to each manage their own tasks.
He used careful wording, only pointing out the phenomena and avoiding direct criticism of individuals.
"Yes, Deputy Section Chief Li has considered things very carefully; it was done after thorough investigation and thought."
Section Chief Qian first affirmed the point, then turned to the issue he was truly concerned about, "Especially this quality inspection standby post, it's absolutely necessary!"
“Our warehouse is full of talented people. Master Lin is highly respected and his experience is beyond question, so he should be in charge. Master Liu was also promoted from quality inspector, so he can be a backup option.”
Then, the tone shifted: "But our materials science department also needs people who can do it, it just requires training to reach the level you have."
"Zhao Xiaohai and Zhang Wei in our department are young and eager to learn, but would it be convenient for you to teach them together?"
Section Chief Qian's words handed the decision-making power over to Li Kailang. If he agreed, there would be plenty of work to do next.
If he doesn't agree, his report will be a waste of time and effort.
But Li Kailang wasn't about to let his efforts go to waste: "It's convenient. I don't have anything else to do anyway, so it's fine to train him as well."
Hearing that Li Kailang had agreed, what else could Section Chief Qian say?
"Okay, I'll call Zhao Xiaohai and the others over right away."
"Wait, there's still a problem. How should we handle the contingency plan?" Li Kailang pressed, as this was one of the key points of his report.
"Standby personnel need to get into the zone quickly, and it is essential to understand the activation conditions, scope of authorization, emergency procedures, and communication mechanisms with the production department."
"These details need to be clarified and put into written guidelines."
Section Chief Qian looked embarrassed: "Alas, Deputy Section Chief Li, this is a troublesome matter. The rules are set in stone, and if the situation changes, we will be at a disadvantage."
"However, you're right, rules are still necessary. Here's what we'll do, Deputy Section Chief Li, could you first produce a draft, outlining the core principles?"
"We'll refine the specific details later! The principle is: ensure production and respond flexibly! Then we can have the warehouse follow suit."
Li Kailang understood that what Section Chief Qian wanted was a "title" that sounded very convincing.
He didn't care about the details or the feasibility.
This so-called contingency plan is likely to become a dead letter, and if something really happens, it will still be the same old "rule by man" approach.
No one knows what Section Chief Qian is thinking. He had agreed with great joy before, but now he seems to be having second thoughts.
Li Kailang nodded. "Let's take it one step at a time. There's no need to rush."
"Okay, let's do it the way Section Chief Qian says."
Upon hearing that Li Kailang had actually agreed, Section Chief Qian was secretly pleased, knowing that Li Kailang was no fool.
"I'm busy right now, but I'll call Zhao Xiaohai and Zhang Wei over later and have them learn from you."
"After they complete their training, they can serve as emergency quality inspectors. If one of them has an accident, the other can step in."
"Section Chief Qian is right."
Immediately, Section Chief Qian summoned the two men.
The two were overjoyed to hear that they could learn from Li Kailang.
"That's great! That's great!" Zhao Xiaohai exclaimed, having been incredibly envious of Li Kailang's quality inspection skills the day before yesterday.
Although he works in the materials department, he deals more with documents than with materials; material issues are handled by the quality inspectors.
He wanted to learn, but the quality inspector was unwilling to teach him, so there was nothing he could do.
Unlike Liu Mangtiao, he wasn't promoted from a quality inspector position; otherwise, how could he be in charge of a portion of the accounts?
Zhang Wei was the same.
Section Chief Qian nodded in satisfaction as he looked at the two men, who were working with great enthusiasm.
Learning these two things will also benefit him.
If we can really learn it, Li Kailang's report might be feasible.
"Alright, since you both agree, I think we should do it today. The warehouse is busy today, so you two can start learning from Deputy Section Chief Li from today onwards."
"Yes!" the two replied loudly, turning to look at Li Kailang.
Looking at the two of them, Li Kailang had nothing else to do anyway. The report had already been submitted, and the two people had been confirmed for the filing. The details could be dealt with later.
"Let's go to the warehouse now, and I'll teach you how to inspect it."
"Great!" The two of them beamed with joy.
Li Kailang led Zhao Xiaohai and Zhang Wei out of the Materials Science and Engineering office.
Zhao Xiaohai seemed unusually excited, his steps almost skipping, and he leaned close to Li Kailang and whispered:
"Deputy Section Chief Li, you really spotted something wrong with those materials at a glance the other day? That's amazing!"
Although Zhang Wei, who was standing next to him, didn't chatter like Zhao Xiaohai, he also showed great interest in his eyes and silently pricked up his ears.
“I wouldn’t call myself a god,” Li Kailang smiled.
"With experience and careful observation, the difference in materials can sometimes be just a few minor details, but when used in machinery, that little bit can be a disaster."
"This job looks simple, but it requires meticulous attention. I'm different from others; you'll learn to be very strict with me. Are you really prepared?"
Zhao Xiaohai patted his chest and said, "Deputy Section Chief Li, don't worry! I've been prepared for this for a long time. What can I learn by dealing with documents all day? It's good that you're strict; it'll save me from causing trouble."
Zhang Wei hesitated for a moment before nodding seriously: "I've thought it through. It won't hurt to learn more skills."
Li Kailang nodded slightly and said nothing more.
What he needs is not slogans, but people who can truly focus on getting things done.
These two young people, one impulsive but passionate, the other silent but composed, make for a good pair.
"Okay, let's go."
