Chapter 59: The Story of Will-O-Wisp

Chapter 59: The Story of Will-O-Wisp

"Forget it," Ron looked at Andre who was a little shocked. "It's not easy for them to dig a well. Let's not mess with it."

"Since that guy said he would come out at night, Andre, go and tell the villagers not to move around tonight and to rest quietly."

"Yes, sir." Andre bowed quickly and left with his companions.

Ron and the others went back to do their own things or rest. It was still a long time before nightfall, and there was no point in waiting here.

Soon, when the setting sun had shed its last rays of light, Ron and his companions came to the well again. Andre lit and fixed a torch on the edge of the well, illuminating everything around and under the well as clearly as day.

Ron was once again ready to unleash his undead mighty force at the bottom of the well and "summon" the will-o'-the-wisp.

"Don't fight, I'm coming out!"

Before Ron could speak, a blue light suddenly lit up from the bottom of the well, and a ball of light without any heat broke through the water and hovered above the mouth of the well, level with Ron's head.

"Why are you so irritable? Didn't I say I would come out at night?"

In the light blue flame, a skull with a smooth surface floated up and down, and its mandible opened and closed, and clear sounds were heard.

"Do you know how painful that bullet was?!"

"I don't know," Ron answered honestly, "I'm not undead."

"伱!"

"Judging from the appearance of your skull, you were a woman in your previous life?" Ron looked at her. "Why did you become like this?"

“I—” The will-o’-the-wisp was about to answer smoothly, but suddenly a large ball of lightning and sparks burst out from the surface of his body, “Ahhhhhh!”

"What's going on?" Ron was startled at first, and was about to strike the undead, but when he saw that the other party didn't seem to be inclined to attack, he stopped attacking.

"I, alas, I am restricted in the content of my language and cannot talk about this!" The will-o'-the-wisp sighed, and a "clacking" sound came from between his bones.

"As long as I try to say anything about this, the magic will take effect and make me suffer!"

"It sounds like you're being controlled by some more powerful creature," Victoria said, "but why are you in the well here? There shouldn't be any powerful magical creatures around here."

The Lizardmen and the Bullywugs have all been wiped out, and there is not even a priest left.

"This well is connected to the underground waterway," the will-o'-the-wisp floated unsteadily at the mouth of the well. "Although these people have built stones around it, I am a will-o'-the-wisp! This can't stop me!"

"Victoria asked why you appeared here," Ron looked at this unreliable guy, "Since you have a very demanding master, why don't you serve him instead of coming here to play pranks and tease the villagers?"

"I am serving it!" the will-o'-the-wisp said confidently, "I am carrying out my master's will: to scare you! Until you are scared away!"

Ron: “?”

"Normally, your job is to lure us to your master's lair, not scare them away. Could it be that you have a will of your own?"

Will-O-Wisp is a relatively fragile undead creature. Although its various characteristics make them very difficult to kill (immune to lightning and poison, and resistant to strong acid, freezing, fire, erosion, thunder, non-magical attacks such as blunt, piercing, and slashing), this does not change the essence of their existence. They are just some spirits that cannot be dispersed, acting according to instinct and the orders of their masters.

"I have no self-will, this is the master's order!" The flame of the will-o'-the-wisp trembled up and down. "Recently, a very scary creature appeared in the master's territory. It's very scary!"

"So my master ordered me to intimidate the nearby residents and drive you away, so that we can avoid danger!"

"What about your master himself?" Ivy asked curiously, "Is he some witch who really likes humanoids?"

"You say that as if you were describing 'a very fragrant pile of shit'," Sera spit. "Even I know that most hags are misanthropes who enjoy seeing us degenerate and twist!"

"No, my master is not a witch." The will-o'-the-wisp danced at the mouth of the well, "But my master was once as evil as a witch!"

"Ever?" Ron caught a key word.

Generally speaking, will-o'-the-wisp is the product of being imprisoned by black magic or dark fate. Its camp is fixedly evil, and its symbionts are mostly witches, evil ghosts, black dragons, cultists and so on. This is what the saying "birds of a feather flock together" means.

But it says, ever?
"Yes!" The will-o'-the-wisp's voice seemed to adore its master very much. "My master was once a very evil being, and it was destined to be as evil as its predecessors!"

"I am also its evil and humble servant, wandering around, persuading creatures such as lizardmen to walk into its trap and become its feast. And I can also be by its side, snatching the last breath of its victims during their last struggle, and enjoying the pleasure of the last ray of light in their lives disappearing from their eyes."

When the will-o'-the-wisp said this, a strong light burst out from its empty eyes, which was enough to prove that what it said was true. Due to its evil nature, it really enjoyed those moments and was willing and happy to work hard for the cause of its terrible master.

Until that day...

"So, when did your master start to change?"

"Is it because of a change of heart? Is it because of enlightenment? Or is it because of some other special reason?"

Ron was just asking casually about the first two. For some creatures, evil is their nature, their instinct, and even something that is necessary for survival. Almost nothing will happen that will make these creatures give up their nature and turn to goodness.

Driver was also because he followed Ron, and in fact his nature did not change much, he just restrained himself when cooperating with Ron.

"There is no conscience and no enlightenment!" the will-o'-the-wisp cried, "because a canary flew into the jungle that day!"

"Canary?"

"The owner wants to eat it!"

"Then?"

"It got beaten up by the canary!"

"what?"

"Then it began to worship a silver portrait of a dragon head, and after encountering that dangerous existence, it began to deal with it, and asked me to start making trouble for you in order to force you to leave here!"
