Overlord: Start from the Goblin Lair.

Chapter 556: Goblins All Over the Mountains

Jack really couldn't see what was wrong with the painting, but he knew someone had just tried to read his mind!

The entire race of shapeshifters are experts in this area, how could they be fooled by it? When the consciousness just started to try this, Jack discovered him at the first moment!

Jack didn't know who it was, and he didn't have the courage to read the other person's mind. Maybe it was a shapeshifter who didn't know the rules, or maybe it was a reckless or ill-intentioned spellcaster - although Jack didn't think there was anything about him that was worth suspecting.

But he understood one thing very well: in this situation, the most effective way was to report to the Lord! This would at least prove that the other doppelgangers, at least himself, were not involved!

Quest had finally found them a home where they could move freely in any form without worrying about being looked down upon by other races. He didn't want to be driven out!
Jack threw his belongings into the bushes nearby. He had to speed up to report the news. His figure became taller and taller as he ran. His facial features gradually became blurred, but his steps and speed were bigger than those of a halfling.

Then... with a loud "bang", Jack stepped on a trap camouflaged with grass. The rope around his ankle suddenly tightened. Jack felt dizzy and when he came to his senses, the ground was hanging upside down above his head.

He was hung!

Jack's tense nerves broke in an instant, and he screamed in fear, twisting his body constantly to try to escape, but it was all in vain. When he calmed down a little, he even began to be thankful that his violent movements did not cause the rope to break - below him was a pit full of sharp wooden spikes!
If he had not been hung up just now, or if he had broken the rope after being hung up, he would have been nailed to the pit now! What a vicious criminal!

...But why does this method look familiar?

Before Jack could think about it, a sharp, impatient voice sounded from above his head - or below him: "What are you arguing about? What are you arguing about?!"

"Why is it that the noise is like slaughtering a pig?"

Jack tried his best to focus his eyes on the creature that made the sound, and then he breathed a sigh of relief: it was a goblin.

It's friendly forces.

"This is really strange," the goblin now saw Jack's appearance clearly, but his tone was quite confused. "Hey, where are you from? Why are you running around without following the rules? The village and the road are all over there!"

"You're not a spy, are you?" The goblin suddenly looked at Jack's face with caution. "Wipe that off your face! Let me see what you have to hide."

"Lord Karad said that we need to strictly arrest suspicious people like you recently! Once we find you, we can kill you on the spot!"

"Boss, what the adults said should be 'execute on the spot.'" Another goblin nearby kindly reminded him, but what he got in return was the leader's electric cannon.

"So much nonsense - it all means the same thing!"

"Don't, don't execute me here," Jack said quickly, "Look at me! I have a special nameplate on me! My name is Jack, and I'm from here!"

"I even treated General Karad to a drink!"

The "rank" of the hobgoblins sounds like a top leader, but the actual situation in the Delusion Land is not the case. Therefore, most residents are more accustomed to calling Kalad "General", and the slightly flattering title "Marshal". Although the former's status in the hobgoblin society is one level lower than that of the warlord, Kalad unexpectedly acquiesced. This may be his respect for Roan's status, or perhaps he tolerates the shallow knowledge of ignorant civilians.

"You?" As expected, when Jack said this, the goblins below immediately reacted. A big hand reached out to Jack and quickly grabbed something that could prove his identity: "Jack, doppelganger?"

"Yes, yes, yes!" the painter agreed quickly, "It's me, it's me."

"Why are you running into the wilderness in the dark?" The goblin curled his lips and waved his hand to signal his companions to take action. "Put this tribute down. You are really lucky. Fortunately, we are guarding here and have not returned yet. Otherwise, we will have to come to the pit to pull out your body the next morning."

Jack could only smile bitterly, and after being rescued, he expressed his gratitude repeatedly: "Thank you for saving my life! I just happened to have something important to report to the lord, so I took a shortcut to save trouble, but I didn't expect to accidentally touch a trap..."

"Important matter?" The goblins' pointed ears immediately stood up, showing great interest in this. "Tell me about it."

"Tell me!"

"This..." Jack wanted to ignore these guys, but he couldn't get away, so he had to tell them what happened to him. "Someone was secretly probing my thoughts just now. It might be..."

To Jack's surprise, the goblins did not show any intention of mocking his mental allergy after listening to him. Instead, they looked at each other. Finally, the goblin who should be playing the role of captain or leader looked up at him: "You mean just now? How long has it been?"

"Maybe... five or ten minutes?" Jack was not sure and could only judge based on his intuition. "Can you guys let me go? This is not a joke!"

"I know you're not kidding," the goblin waved his hand. "Recently, Lord Kalade has asked us to strengthen our precautions, and you've joined in the fun. It can't be such a coincidence, right?"

"But think about it, you ran from here to the town and back again. If the 'eavesdropper' you mentioned really existed, would that guy still be waiting for you there?"

Jack opened his mouth: "Then you say..."

"Do I need to tell you this?" The Shapeshifter was shocked to see the contempt in the goblin's eyes. "Lead the way! Let's go catch him!"

"Just a few of us? I still think it's not very stable—"

"Who told you there are only a few of us?" The goblins around looked at each other and laughed strangely, "There are more than just a few of us!"

"You stepped on one of the several 'warning traps' we set up along our territory, and now everyone is attracted to you!"

An unsettling feeling entered Jack's brain. He looked around with his huge eyes. At some point, pairs of eyes flashing with cunning light appeared in the night. Most of them were only about 1.34 meters above the ground, but there were so many of them that they formed a whole in the wilderness.

The whole mountain is full of goblins! (End of this chapter)
