Chapter 548: Shadow Spirit Under the Lamp
In this world, most towns are not particularly safe places after dark, and Green Swamp Town located in the delusion land is naturally even more so. Fortunately, there are militias trained and led by Seymour and Andre, as well as guards brought by Victor from Fromm who patrol carefully. Although it cannot be said that people can leave their doors unlocked at night, at least it is peaceful and harmonious.
At least that's the case most of the time, but tonight should be an exception.
Quest no longer paid attention to the wounded who had been confirmed to be harmless, and silently climbed out of the window. A gray shadow guided him in the direction he was going. That was the mark Yelena had left for him. As members who were responsible for the territory in secret, if they only encountered petty thieves, they would directly send clues to the patrol on duty. It was very rare for them to act on their own and even bring another person with them.
The last time was a month and a half ago, when Quest discovered that a dwarf warlock who came with the caravan was bored at night and was preparing to light some fireworks in the tent to add some "festive atmosphere."
It has to be said that for the dwarves themselves, depigmentation is a terminal illness that is as devastating as the sky falling, but in the eyes of other races... perhaps that is something that the dwarves should really try boldly.
Hopefully it won’t be some dwarf this time.
The gray shadow was erratic, and sometimes so faint that people wondered if it was an illusion, but this was not a problem for Quest. He easily followed the shadow to a street corner, where a ghost-like shadow stood under a dim light, staring at the darkness ahead.
"What happened?" Quest stepped forward, but after only two steps he realized something was wrong and immediately asked in a deep voice, "Yelena, what's wrong with you?"
Shadow Spirit responded to this, her slender body like an elf swaying slightly: "No, it's nothing, I saw it wrongly."
Did he see it wrong? Quest took the stick behind him with his backhand. This was not a good sign.
"Turn around and look at me when you speak."
"Click" "Click" a series of frightening bone friction sounds in the night came from Yelena's neck. With a series of sounds, her head turned 180 degrees. Shadow Spirit's already dry and haggard face looked even weirder under the light. She looked at Quest, and after a long silence, she gave him a strange smile.
"No, it's nothing, I was mistaken."
Quest was not frightened by this scene. He immediately took a defensive stance. The "qi" that was more obscure than arcane and divine magic to most people flowed through his body, resisting the invisible malice attacking him from all directions: "Your condition is not right."
"Since you said you were mistaken, then what did you see before?"
"Me? I'm in great shape," Yelena said to herself, ignoring his subsequent inquiries. "This environment is most suitable for me to act in. The weather is also good..."
"On the contrary, you seem to be in a bad state... You are too nervous, aren't you? Relax, it's no big deal."
"You should be extra alert these two days, Yelena," Quest said as if he was talking to a normal shadow spirit, although he was always ready to hit the normal elf's face with his fist and stick before the other party attacked. "Have you forgotten what Ron said? There may be cultists trying to infiltrate in the next two days. Today and tomorrow are the dates they agreed on in the letter."
"Ron? Yeah... that difficult guy," Yelena muttered, "He has failed his plans time and time again, and now is no exception... I thought he would let his guard down, but I was wrong..." "Yelena?" Quest's tiefling pupils shrank slightly, "What are you talking about?"
"...I'm saying that he's a trouble." Yelena laughed again. Her figure disappeared in an instant, leaving only a gray shadow. "You too."
"I'll start with you tonight!"
With a "snap", Quest felt a non-existent string in his brain suddenly snap, as if it was some kind of trigger. The wooden stick that had accompanied him for most of his life danced out a shadow in front of him. Crisp blows like popping beans came from the stick, and each blow was so powerful that the monk had to unload the force many times to completely block the opponent's attack.
Fortunately, when Quest heard the sound of a wooden structure cracking, he finally took all of Yelena's moves. When the creature that still looked like a shadow spirit fell to the ground again, she let out a surprised cry from her throat.
"Which monastery did you come from? A monk like you shouldn't be an unknown person. You are the first one who can take my attack and remain unscathed - tell me your name!"
“Must-you-know-what.” Quest’s transformed face showed no sign of fatigue or panic, but under his clothes, the wounds torn by the strong wind were oozing blood, proving that he was not as calm as he looked. “Your Excellency’s skills are not bad either. You actually prevented me from even having a chance to attack—which monastery did you come from?”
The other party was also a monk, and Quest confirmed this after just one fight. Moreover, the other party was stronger than himself.
Although it is unknown how the other party transformed into or occupied Yelena's form, one thing is certain: this state is definitely not the enemy's prime form, and even so, Quest still suffered minor skin injuries.
Quest was just responding to the other party's test, but unexpectedly, "Yelena" actually raised the corner of her mouth: "Walson Monastery, a small place, you won't have heard of it."
"I have never heard of it," Quest carefully delayed time to recover his strength, trying not to let the other party see his fatigue, "but it doesn't matter, I have a lot of friends, they should know."
"It's useless," Yelena stretched out her index finger and shook it, "There is no such place as Walsen Monastery in this world anymore, and no one has ever heard of it."
"Do you know why?"
Quest looked at the other party calmly. He would not refuse the opportunity offered by the enemy: "Why?"
"Because the person in charge there is an idiot, and the others are not much stronger than him," "Yelena"'s voice suddenly became sharp, "They actually don't allow me to practice martial arts! You just saw my strength, can you imagine it?! Can you?! They actually forbade me to practice martial arts!"
"Those blind fools! They are not even as good as a black and white cat! So I learned and practiced secretly and then! Then I killed them all! Let their ashes be buried with the ashes of the monastery!"
"From dust to dust, from ashes to ashes, this is what they deserve! This is the only thing I learned there, and this is exactly what my teacher taught me!" (End of this chapter)
