Overlord: Start from the Goblin Lair.
Chapter 327 Parting on bad terms
Chapter 327 Parting on bad terms
Perhaps it was because of her intense emotions, but after the witch finished speaking at a rapid speed, her eyes rolled up and she began to foam at the mouth, not giving Ron and the others any chance to ask further questions. Victoria tried to use magic again, but it had no effect.
"It's useless. This isn't something that can be cured by magic," Victoria shook her head regretfully at Ron. "She's... weird. Are all witches' souls a mess?"
"I think we'd better leave quickly, otherwise when she wakes up next time, I don't know if she will still be so easy to talk to."
Ron stretched out his hands and patted Victoria and the others one by one. In the turbid air, groups of hazy mists seemed to have self-awareness and flew towards a pipe leading to the outside of the castle. After sending everyone away, Ron turned his head to look at the witch who was still unconscious, tore open a pre-prepared scroll of gaseous form, and turned to leave.
The Vampire Count has no external enemies, at least not for the time being, so his defense force is limited to daily patrols. From the time they flew out of the pipe until they returned to Ron's room, they didn't even encounter any creatures larger than pigeons, let alone big guys like gargoyles.
Through the half-open window of his room, Ron saw that Driver and Yelena were already there, waiting for everyone to return.
However, what Ron did not expect was that although this swift infiltration operation was not discovered by Alfred and the Earl, it was not done secretly. When Ron and others fell into the house and revealed their true forms, they were embarrassed to find that in addition to the goblins and shadow spirits, there was actually another person in the room.
When she saw Ron was among them, the woman in noble clothes looked cloudy from thunderstorm to overcast. With a faint smile, she scanned Ron's body with her red eyes.
"I hope you found something in the attic worth doing this, benefactor."
"Sylvia?!" Ivy stared at the vampire she hadn't seen for a long time, "Why are you so free today?!"
"You have to ask him about that," Sylvia pouted and slapped the goblin on the back of his head. "If I hadn't pulled myself away, he would have torn down the castle just to hold Alfred back!"
"Anyway, the vampire lord must sleep during the day, so what's the problem?" Driver protested, holding his head. "If Yelena hadn't come out, wouldn't your interference have exposed Ron?"
"I went to look for you because I saw Yelena coming out!" Sylvia glared at the goblin hunter who talked back, "If you want to attract attention like this, you might as well let me do it next time!"
"I was planning to look for you," Ron said with a wry smile, "but you're preparing for the ceremony now, and in a few days, you'll be..."
"So you're going to keep it from me?" Sylvia sighed. "If this castle and even the entire territory will soon belong to me, then of course what's mine is yours. Whatever you want to see or want, I can give it to you, without a doubt."
"I am yours, my own - now will you tell me what you are trying to gain by going to all this trouble in that locked attic?"
"That's the problem, Sylvia," Ron looked directly into the dhampir's eyes to show that he was absolutely not lying, "We may get nothing. We must leave quickly before we lose everything we have."
Without waiting for Sylvia to ask, Ron told her everything he had heard and seen in the attic: "You must understand, right?"
"Yes, of course I understand."
"Don't rush to refute. I know this is completely different from what the Earl said, but...what did you say?" Ron's eyes widened as he looked at Sylvia, who was calm and even smiling. "You...understand?"
"Of course," Sylvia nodded. "You, Ivy, Victoria, and even Driver, you all can't bear to part with me. You're afraid that I'll covet fame and fortune and part ways with you from now on, so you came up with this idea, right?" "I fully understand: a land with only the dead doesn't mean much to the living, but it may not be the case for me who is about to become a true vampire."
"You are such a fool!" Ivy held her forehead with her hand. "Did that vampire drug you?! So many of us saw it with our own eyes and heard it with our own ears. Do you actually think we are joking?"
"What else? Do you want me to believe that the earl who was born in aristocracy and protected his people is a liar and that the truth is told by a crazy woman locked in the attic?" Sylvia counterattacked, "She also claimed to be the dead countess? Benefactor, we have visited her and their daughter's graves! How could it be false?"
"Just because there is a tomb doesn't mean there is a body in it," Ron tried to persuade her. "Sylvia, do you remember the monument in Faramar? There was even a statue of a death knight guarding it. Was her body inside?"
"You can't go dig up the graves of his wife and daughter in the backyard while the husband is still 'alive'!" Sylvia stood up suddenly and waved her hands, not knowing whether to laugh or cry. "My benefactor, I... let me calm down for a while. I am willing to believe you, but I can't believe a crazy woman who is out of nowhere."
"I won't tell the Earl and Alfred about this. Just pretend it never happened, okay?"
"Ron! Let's not waste time talking to this guy. Since she wants to commit suicide, there is no reason for us to save her again!" When Sylvia was about to open the door, Ivy's voice came from behind her.
"She is still dreaming of rising from a slave to a countess!"
"I hope you can still remember what you said when I hold a banquet in this castle in the future and don't invite you!" Sylvia left the room angrily, leaving the half-elf's sneer behind the door.
After this unpleasant conversation, Ron and his friends also said that they were not strong enough to continue to help with the ceremony. Ivy and Sylvia avoided each other and did not want to see each other. Yelena and Quest were not in the castle for several days. In the team, only Driver was still heartless. Since the last time he discovered Alfred's detachable feature, the goblin hunter found a new toy and chased the butler around the castle all day.
A few days later, Sylvia's succession ceremony was fully prepared. When the full moon came tonight, the earl abdicated and she would inherit all the earl's wealth and power. After dinner, the vampire knocked on Ron's door.
"Benefactor, the ceremony will begin in three or four hours. You and others can prepare first."
No one in the room responded.
"Don't tell me he really left..." The vampire sighed and muttered softly. She knocked on the door a few more times, and when there was no response, she turned around and was about to leave. But she heard a creaky sound behind her, and the door opened. Ron was standing at the door, breathing slightly.
"Please tell the Earl that we will be there on time, thanks to his hospitality over the past fortnight."
"Sylvia, you should change your clothes. It would be best if you can move easily inside." Ron said this out of the blue after agreeing to the appointment.
Sylvia looked behind her benefactor. Ron didn't mind the cool night wind in this ghostland. He opened the windows wide, allowing the cold wind from the hall to blow in.
