Chapter 283 Disturbing Traces
Chapter 283 Disturbing Traces
The return of the Weaving Preface is certainly a good thing for Ron. Although this guy now longs to return to his old master, it is better than a stack of draft paper, right?
With such an antique-level wizard by his side, Ron was completely immersed in the ocean of knowledge during the days on the return journey. But unfortunately, such good days did not last long. Not long after the team gradually drove back to the range of delusion, Victoria knocked on the door of Ron's carriage.
"Ron, Karad's goblin scouts have found some disturbing signs. I thought you should come and take a look."
"What happened?" Seeing the pastor's serious expression, Ron immediately threw the book aside and quickly got out of the car.
The team temporarily camped beside a dirt road that was trampled by people, pack animals and vehicles. This was a new road that was recently trampled by merchants after the trade station was built. Although it was not wide or flat, it was just right and could meet the needs of all the teams passing by.
It's not that Ron and his men don't understand that if you want to get rich, you have to build roads first, but there are really not enough people in the territory to spare to build roads here. Since this naturally formed path can still meet the needs, it may not be a bad idea to use it first.
Ron turned his head and looked to the south, where he could vaguely see the shadow of a building - that was the camp built by the Carolina bandits before, and now it belonged to them. Some residents who moved from the southern city-states but had no professional skills moved here. If the road under their feet needed further leveling and repair, they would be the main labor force.
It seemed that they had truly returned to delusion.
"Please don't tell me that Rurik's deal with the devils is off," Ron thought about it and now imagined that the most likely dangerous situation was this, "Did the goblins find traces left by Cambion?"
"And the devil? You are really brave," Gillianis also got out of the car. This elven wizard probably didn't like walking, and most of the time she was suspended in the air, so that she was a head taller than Ron. "But you should be worrying too much. There is no breath of purgatory around here - at least I didn't find it."
"It's not a demon," Victoria pointed to the woods nearby. "They found the body over there. Sera and Driver have already gone there. I wonder if they have come to any conclusion yet."
"Corpse?"
"It's a centaur." Speaking of this, Pastor Heim frowned unconsciously. "Although there are various races living in the Delusion Land, this is the first time we know that there are centaurs here."
"They generally choose to roam the vast wilderness rather than the muddy swamps and jungles."
"Maybe it's a centaur ranger who likes to travel alone," Ron motioned Victoria to lead the way. "Let's go and take a look. Sera and Driver are both experienced hunters. They will definitely be able to see something."
Ron and the other two left the team's guarding area. No soldiers from Kalade's team followed them. However, two bear goblins disappeared silently next to the chariot under the giant goblin's seat.
"These huge, hairy beasts would crawl out of the shadows as quietly as cats, dragging women, children, and even adults into hidden places and strangling them to death," Gillianis noticed these guards hiding in the dark. "Even in the culture of the elves, they often appear in stories and nightmares."
"I remember worrying about this when I was a kid. But that was only when I was very young. Later, I went to various colleges for further studies. There was no room for them to hide in laboratories and classrooms." "You can worry about it now," Ron smiled and put the waist-high bushes aside. "To be honest, the goblins under the organization of the hobgoblins are quite dedicated. The scope of their reconnaissance has been expanded so far."
He looked back at the road; from here he could only see the roof of Kalade's chariot.
"This is 'our territory', so we have to patrol it thoroughly," Driver's voice came from beside Ron. The goblin hunter came out of the bushes and shook off the leaves on his pointed ears. "You are here. Sera and I were just about to look for you."
"Have you figured out something?" Ron quickened his pace and soon saw the goblins who had discovered the corpse. Sera was among them, and even though she was squatting on the ground, she still stood out like a crane among chickens.
In front of her, the body of a centaur lay dead on the ground. The creature was very similar to the centaur that Ron had imagined: the upper body and facial structure were between an elf and a human, while the lower body was in the shape of a horse with brown fur and four hooves.
The corpse must have been dead for some time. Many parts of the body showed varying degrees of decay and gnawing marks. The human abdominal cavity was cut open and the internal organs were almost gone.
The centaur didn't have much equipment or decorations on his body. There were only some simple leather products and scattered arrowheads around the corpse. Ron also saw a bow broken into two pieces, covered with mud, as if it had just been dug out of the ground.
“What a miserable death,” Gillianis said with a tut. “Even for a fey creature, it is inevitable to end up like this in the material world.”
"Speaking of which, I've had a lot of questions about centaurs before," Ron looked down at the male centaur, "his upper body's internal organs have been taken out, what about his lower body?"
"Is there another set of internal organs, or some other structure?"
"For this question, you have to look at what kind of centaur it is. After all, they are fey creatures and cannot be judged by common sense." If it were someone else, they would probably be unable to answer, but Gillianis could talk about it eloquently. "It just so happens that there is only one kind of centaur on this continent, and I have seen the dissection of centaur slaves several times during my time in the empire."
"The conclusion is...they appear to have two sets of chambers, but they are actually one set, and the same is true for the internal organs inside - you can examine the body yourself later to see if this is true."
"However, due to their special nature, centaurs have more diverse, more numerous, and larger organs than ordinary humanoids. Only in this way can they support their powerful athletic ability."
"Take the heart as an example. A horse's heart is probably six to seven times heavier than a human's, and a horse's heart is at least one to two times heavier. The same is true for other organs."
The elf looked up and down at the goblin hunter who was eager to dissect (slaughter) the goblin. "Plus the unique structure of the elves, this gives them a terrifying and unreasonable weight. For example, the centaur slave that I watched being dissected weighed 2.3 pounds, or tons, nearly two and a half tons, if I remember correctly."
