Chapter 216 Semi-finished Explosives
Chapter 216 Semi-finished Explosives
The Weak Healing Potion was not the best treatment method, but it was cheaper. But in Ron's hands, it had some different uses.
"Ingredients." Ron took a step forward, pulled out the stopper from the potion bottle, flipped his wrist slightly, and poured the entire bottle of potion onto the ground.
A rat assassin's eyes flashed red, and he instantly rushed towards Ron, who was pouring the potion and the soil under his feet became moist. However, when the dagger in his hand was about to shred the man in front of him into pieces like a whirlwind, he found that he had hit nothing but a mirror image.
"Action." Ron stretched out his hand and patted the assassin's shoulder. The other party wanted to turn around and attack, but it was too late.
Ron's lips moved as he quickly recited a clumsy spell that did not belong to this world. The ratman assassin felt an inexplicable heat rushing from the soles of his feet to his head. The next moment, a tree more than one meter tall, formed by pure arcane energy, grew out of the soil and wrapped the ratman's entire body in it.
"Squeak, squeak, squeak--" The other ratmen rushed forward upon seeing this. It was not like they had never fought with spellcasters before, and it was difficult for a mage to react in this situation. As long as they rushed forward together, they would not only be able to rescue their compatriots who were being controlled, they might even be able to kill this ignorant mage who had exposed himself on the spot!
But Ron used up an entire third-level spell slot, not to control a single enemy by contact.
When he saw a group of ratmen rushing towards him, Ron showed a smile, activated the Phantom Step, and appeared behind the team in an instant. The flaming arrow in his hand accurately hit the ratman assassin who was unable to dodge because he was controlled.
"Bang!" Ron's own voice-over was drowned out by the violent explosion. The coverage was far inferior to that of the fireball, but the terrifying explosion with equal lethality filled the entire cave. The high-temperature flames licked the tower shield erected by Ivy, and retracted their claws that were stretched out towards Ron, the instigator, with hatred.
But the rats at the center of the explosion were not so lucky. When the temperature in the cave dropped slightly and the smoke gradually dissipated, dozens of charred corpses lay in a mess on the ground where Ron had stood before. The soil below was roasted and some of the materials inside even turned into glass. Its high temperature and destructive power were evident.
"Let me guess... Did you refer to Fireball and Vampire Touch?" Sylvia walked to the front of the mess and tapped the hot ground with her finger. "But why do I remember that the elf wizard wanted to achieve a protective spell?"
"So I just had some ideas," Ron blinked. In fact, the explosion and his phantom steps were almost synchronized. The horrible high temperature burned his eyes and they still hurt. "I don't understand how he protects himself, but I changed my mind."
"Since you can't protect yourself, why not just not release it on yourself?"
"The raw materials in the potion are flammable. Plus, with the alchemical tricks inside, as long as we process them a little bit during the casting process, we can get portable casting materials."
"However, in the previous experiments with wild beasts, the targets would always run around, so in order to stabilize the range of action, I had to choose to add additional actions and use contact casting. The advantage of this is that I can stably control the explosion range to ensure that there will be no accidental injuries."
"The price is that you have to pay a Phantom Step - if you don't count Mirror Image and Blur," Sylvia smiled, "You still have a long way to go to further perfect this spell."
"How about you try casting spells while wearing armor like me?" Victoria showed Ron the armor on her body, "You can enchant the lining to protect against fire, which will be much more convenient." Casting spells while wearing armor is a good choice for lone wolves and spellcasters in the army, but Ron feels that he doesn't seem to have the need for it yet. After all, it's just a semi-finished product. If he gives himself some time to perfect it, it shouldn't be so troublesome.
"It's a pity that I can't learn this thing." Ivy kicked the half-human, half-rat meat that was roasted on the ground. "Come to think of it, can you use any healing potion to cast a spell?"
"The strength of the spell depends on the strength of the potion," Ron nodded. "If a regular healing potion is used as a spell material, the explosion level will be the same as that of a fireball, but wouldn't that be meaningless?"
In this kind of terrain, a fireball spell can injure the enemy by 1,000, and it may also injure itself by 1,000. They have experienced this themselves. In comparison, a sophisticated and controllable explosion is more suitable for such occasions.
"Can it be used on dead objects?" Sera licked her lips, and the barbarian suddenly had an idea. "I saw that just now, a tree appeared on the ground to control the rat man, right? Can we use something else to replace it, and then-"
She made a throwing gesture with the Canglan Grip, which made Ron's eyes widen immediately.
"Sera, you are a genius!" Ron slapped his thigh, "Quick, rush in, there must be more ratmen inside, I saw some of them running away with a few giant rats!"
"Catch up, I have to know the answer!"
With Ron's explosion, the status of both sides suddenly reversed: the ratmen fled deeper into the cave in panic. Spellcasters who could cast large-scale killing spells were no longer something they, the ambushers, could deal with. Ron and his companions continued to chase them, picking up the weapons and traps abandoned by the ratmen from time to time as experimental subjects, and throwing them at the backs of the fugitives in front.
With a "bang", a ratman hurriedly cut the rope, and a huge stone door fell down, blocking Ron and others outside their nest.
But can this stop them? No!
"Only a large enough block can achieve the effect," Ron "wasted" another bottle of potion and signaled Sera to knock a meter-long block of stone from the surrounding stone wall. "Put it here, and when you see it covered with energy later, pull it up and throw it over!"
The entanglement of the trees rooted in the ground is a visual effect. Only the target is controlled and unable to move, while others can still move the subject normally.
"But even if it can be used this way, it can't be compared with the regular Fireball spell," Ivy held her knees and panted slightly. These guys chased her without considering her feelings at all! "Isn't it more cost-effective to use Fireball?"
"No, no, no, you're wrong," Ron grinned, "For living things, we need to control the target and prevent it from moving freely, but for inanimate objects, we don't need to be so strict, and fewer functions require fewer resources - Sera, now!"
