Chapter 190: Village of Demons and People

Chapter 190: Village of Demons and People

No one would take this warning, which was not even a threat, seriously. Ron and others temporarily laid down their weapons and walked into the last territory of the old kingdom.

The roads in the village were in tatters, the buildings were in disarray, and there was garbage everywhere, and a pungent stench filled the air. When they saw Ron and his group, both humans and demons showed obvious disgust, and they all closed their doors. The few who didn't have time to hide would turn their backs and whisper slang and curse.

But for at least half of Ron's team, this treatment was nothing.

"Look at it from a bright side, at least they didn't throw rotten eggs at us," Driver kept making all kinds of weird faces at the people around him, scaring a coward so much that it screamed "There's a coward" and ran away. "When I was a kid, when I was stealing chickens and dogs in the village, the villagers treated me much worse than this."

"Of course! Now I don't have to do that anymore."

"Goblins, at least you have your own nest," Sylvia was used to the villagers' reactions. "Freak, demon, cursed child... I basically lived in these voices before Carolina took me away."

“Even as a slave, I’ve never heard such a sound—my ears are now calloused.” The dhampir pretended to dig his ears with his little finger.

When Sera and his clan first arrived in Fromm, they were often looked down upon, and even Ivy had fought with them. As for the witch, that goes without saying.

Yelena, with her pale skin, was relatively okay—the shadow spirits under the Raven Queen were famous in countless planes, and those who were powerful disdained to spread rumors, while other creatures avoided them.

In the entire team, Ron and Victoria were probably the only ones who felt the most uncomfortable.

"I never thought this day would come," Victoria forced a smile. "Almost every stranger I met treated me as a demon, but the real demons looked like humans... Did you see it? That worm demon!"

Following the direction Victoria pointed, Ron saw a short, fat creature with a worm head, selling its wares under the eaves - some handmade wood carvings and other knickknacks.

These crude toys are very popular with the children in the village. A few demons also join in the fun. The whole scene looks extremely weird, but none of the creatures in it think there is anything wrong with it.

Even though the worm demon couldn't even speak the common language, its mouthparts, which were split into four parts and occupied most of its head, could only make a "sizzling" sound that gave people goosebumps.

"Worm demon vendor? I'm sure it's a rare species," Yelena walked over with a wry smile, a small light green magic circle flashing in her hand, "formed by the souls of grave robbers. Don't be fooled by their appearance, this short and fat body is actually its 'armor'. Outside the host body, its true form is a worm with four long tails. In this case, they will crawl into the corpse of any humanoid creature and manipulate it."

"In the war between demons and devils, they are one of the most common battlefield troops. But if you look deeper into their nature, they prefer to disguise themselves as ordinary people in the material plane, using occupations such as gravediggers or dung sweepers to indulge in desires similar to those of ghouls."

"You are not allowed to bully the dumb uncle!" The Shadow Spirit's use of magic against "ordinary people" aroused strong dissatisfaction among local residents. A very brave little boy even tried to push Yelena away from the worm demon to protect the "dumb uncle" who had a miserable life but a kind heart.

"Stay away from me, little brat." Yelena's face suddenly darkened. She had no interest in fighting with the dirty mud monkey. In the past, she would have pulled out the spiked chain. "That's enough, Yelena," Ivy said in a low voice with some dissatisfaction, "We are not here for this!"

"Your kindness is taken for granted..." Yelena glared at the child with disgust and reluctantly pulled away. "Human life span is short to begin with. If they hang out with demons for a long time when they are young, it will only further shorten their already short life span."

"The corruption of the abyss is no joke."

"So there's no point in paying attention to them, right?" Ron confirmed the direction by the light of the torches on the road. "Let's go this way. The voice of the wise man came from over there."

After turning around and searching for a while in the village with no clear layout, a brick house that was relatively well built appeared in front of Ron and his companions. The building looked weathered, but it was only a half-finished product. The side facing the stream was empty and had no walls.

After pushing open the useless wooden door, Ron saw the "wise man" praised by all the villagers.

It looked grey and shrouded in shadow.

"Are there male and female demons?" Sera stared, sizing up the other person's figure. No matter how you looked at it, it looked like a female...

"No, demons and devils are the same. Their appearance depends on what they want you to see," Yelena snorted, "but some are born closer to human form, such as the one in front of you - the foul demon."

The light of the ever-burning torch illuminated the entire room. The demon with the body of a thin human woman raised its tongue, which was almost longer than its body, to cover its moth-like face. Behind her, two pairs of dragonfly wings were broken and weakly attached to her back.

"Stay away from it, don't get within the reach of its tongue," Polly raised her hand to signal everyone to step back, while showing them a kind and gentle smile, "If it were any other time, I would be happy to push these guys to you so that you can lay eggs, but not now, I am at their service."

"It's already difficult for me to lay an egg now," the foul borer, or moth demon, sighed slightly, and semi-solid shadows and smoke formed a flowing transparent robe around its body. "You must have found this place because you encountered those escaped priests, right?"

"If it were me before, I would never make such a mistake and let them escape. I could even keep their servants to strengthen this village."

"But you didn't do it. It's not that you didn't want to, but that you couldn't do it, right?" Polly found a place to sit down familiarly, took out the bottles and jars on her body and started fiddling with them. "How many days does it take you to lay an egg now?"

"When my mother came, it seemed like it was still one every two days, right?"
