Chapter 181 Traces of the Devil
Chapter 181 Traces of the Devil
"A gem." Ron sighed as he looked at the handwriting on the notebook that had become familiar due to magic.
He knew it.
"This wizard obviously doesn't know that the gem and the slate are one and the same," Yelena laughed with some gloating, "and Moloch himself is so poor that a single gem is enough for him to pay the corresponding reward!"
"This is not funny," Ivy gave Shadow Spirit a sidelong glance, "One of the remaining two gems is in the Nine Hells. Is there anything worse than this?"
"Of course my mistress might lose her position," Yelena said, restraining her smile. "Don't forget, Malborg's current master is Grand Duke Gracia. Moloch regaining his strength is definitely not a good thing."
"As for the gems, that's none of my business."
"The struggle in the Nine Hells is none of our business!" Driver rolled his eyes. "How about we just hand over the Land of Delusion to the Abyss and walk away?"
"Your master seems to be quite interested in this place. I wonder what she will think of you after hearing the reason why we gave up our fantasy land?"
Yelena shuddered when she heard this. Although the goblin hunter usually seemed not very smart, when threatening others, his IQ always reached a level that did not belong to him.
"Ah, it suddenly occurred to me!" Shadow Spirit pretended to be inspired, "It is said that Moloch often appears in Sigil! Maybe I can ask someone to help find out?"
"As a shadow spirit and a contract magician, I should have some connections in this area!"
"Sigil... The City of Gates is not something you can go to whenever you want," Ron waved his hand. "Rather than that, let's worry about the things at hand first."
"The construction team over there is doing very effective work, and people from outside are gradually pouring in. If this continues, I believe that other beings besides your master will start paying attention to this place again."
"Those issues left over from ancient times must be resolved first."
"You mean... planning to go to the ruins that the wizard has been to?" Constance opened her eyes wide, "But, our strength should not be able to catch up with him, right?"
"The reason he turned to the devil for help was to explore the ruins. If he couldn't achieve his goal even by selling his soul, then he would be too foolish to be a wizard."
Ron used an illusion trick to show his companions the location of the ruins recorded in the notebook: "They must have explored the entire ruins a long time ago, but considering the changes that may have occurred over the years, I think we still need a guide who is more familiar with the surrounding environment."
"Axuri, stop wagging your tail. Have you been here?" Ron took two steps back, trying to avoid Axuri's tail, but the young dragon followed him again.
"Although I can't do it, I can call upon my followers!" the young black dragon shouted, "Molo and the others can definitely help!"
Those kobolds? Ron raised an eyebrow. Are the range of those little creatures really that far?
"Don't be so wishful. You just want to go there," Yelena sneered. "If there's nothing wrong with the map Ron showed me, the Gnoll Canyon is a long way away from there!"
"Perhaps, we can ask Polly for help?" Sylvia suggested, "The benefactor spared her life, and it's time for her to repay her debt." Yelena and Constance looked at the others in confusion, and only after Ivy's explanation did they know who "Polly" was.
"Absolutely not!" Constance protested immediately, "Mr. Ron, I admire you very much, but how can you make a deal with a witch? This is even worse than colluding with the devil!"
"Every time I communicate with them, I risk my life! They are not trustworthy at all!"
The half-elf must have wanted to say "still degenerate into evil", but did not say it out loud.
"A witch and a devil are the same," Yelena said without comment. "Although you kindly gave me the right to move freely, I am still your prisoner. I have no say in your decision."
"Besides, actually... because of the hags' aesthetics, I get along quite well with them. Apart from the Shadow Spirits themselves, there are very few creatures who think that our image in the Shadowfall is beautiful and moving."
"Even on the material plane it's beautiful."
"Sister, you have a good foundation, but are you sure you want to follow the hag's aesthetic?" As a victim who was hurt by a hag's vicious words, Sylvia's mouth twitched, "If you hadn't wanted to kill us before, I would even be willing to dress you up, I'm sure you can--"
"Then forget it." Yelena glanced at the dhampir. "The change in my appearance is proof of my pursuit of power and knowledge. Although I know it is no longer beautiful and I even resist looking in the mirror, I have no intention of hiding its true appearance - except when it is required for work."
"Would a dwarf or halfling walk on stilts because he was dissatisfied with his height? It's the same principle."
Ron looked around. "It's really strange. Our team doesn't have any dwarves here, but it's still full of dwarf jokes. It's confusing, isn't it?"
"The height and vulgarity of dwarves are meant to be ridiculed," Yelena responded matter-of-factly, and Constance actually agreed. "The only exception I've seen in all these years is your Rurik. His words and deeds at the banquet that night were obviously influenced by the culture of the elves."
"Indeed, as a dwarf, his quirk of 'three no-forging' is really unreasonable." Now even Ivy agreed.
"Then let's do this," Ron brought the topic back to where it had strayed from. "No matter what conditions the witch proposes, we should always go and take a look - there's no harm in that."
"And maybe if we try to build some 'friendship' with her, we can get something out of her."
"Go with empty hands. Even if you saved her life, she won't help you," Shadow Spirit reminded, "Don't ask me how I know this. I have a Night Hag best friend. Once."
"Did you break up because you wanted to get something for nothing?" Aikzuri stared curiously.
"Yes," Yelena shrugged. "We did have a fight. A few of my compatriots and I tied up her limbs and head with spiked chains, then called five flocks of ravens - snap!"
"Did your spiked chain break?" Driver asked stupidly. He had seen a hag before, a creature that big.
Seeing that everyone was not frightened by the cruelty of the shadow spirit, Yelena rolled her eyes at the goblin with a bored look: "Anyway, it wasn't the spiked chain that broke into six pieces, nor were it the ravens."
