Chapter 13: Halfling Cleric
Chapter 13: Halfling Cleric
"Oh..." The halfling priest named Bunny immediately drooped her head and waved Ivy over. "You sit here and wait. I'll get ready."
"Um...how much does the treatment cost?" Ivy walked over with some trepidation. This kind of divine treatment is usually not cheap. Priests and priests can't just sit there and do nothing, right?
"Money? What money?" Boonie looked at Ivy in confusion. "You are friends brought by Lavinia. You don't have to spend any money."
"And you are a half-elf, right? I quite like your race."
As she spoke, Priest Bunny began to cast a spell. Along with a sacred chant, a holy light instantly enveloped Ivy. When the light faded, the half-elf girl lost all her previous illness (which was not obvious to begin with), and stood up in high spirits.
"Okay, that's enough, but I can't do anything about your wounds," Bunny clapped her hands, "Recently I've been preparing water-making magic every day, so I really don't have the energy to treat you."
"It's okay, it's already a big help. Thank you very much!" Ivy hurriedly thanked them. The two old men had said before that many spellcasters in the town were helping to ease the pressure on the refugees, and this halfling priest must be one of them.
"You two have a really good relationship," Ron looked at Lavinia, "Isn't Lesser Restoration a very valuable spell?"
A second level spell. Considering the remote location here, Ron estimated that this was the most powerful spell that Bonnie could use.
"No, we..."
"We are old acquaintances!" Without waiting for Lavinia to speak, Bunny said with a smile, "I was the one who pulled Lavinia out, otherwise she would have stayed in the forest and rotted for the rest of her life!"
"So I don't like you guys from the Lightfoot clan..." Lavinia sighed, "Anyway, thank you. Tell me if you have any questions, and I'll try my best to help."
"I just want you to believe..."
"Impossible," Lavinia rolled her eyes at her friend, "I'm sorry to hear that."
Halflings view their gods more as family members than as divine beings. They do not worship their own gods as elves and dwarves do, because halfling gods are viewed as folk heroes - gods who were mortal beings rather than divine beings who influence the world from the heavens. With this in mind, halflings rarely worship just one deity; they honor all gods equally and pay respect to them in appropriate ways.
It is very rare among Halflings for someone like Bunny to be so fanatical in believing in a non-Halfling deity that she is even willing to become its priest.
"Priest! Priest!" At this time, Driver jumped out and ran to Boonie, "Can you help me heal too?"
"You?" Benny was stunned. She was a little shorter than Driver, so she could clearly see the other's wrinkled, dirty skin and big nose hidden under the cloak.
"If I'm not mistaken, you're a—"
"Bunny," Lavinia made a "hush" gesture, "that human helped me a lot."
"Okay," Boonie shrugged, not dwelling on the question, "but you don't seem to be hurt, right?"
"It's not me, it's my pet." Driver said and blew a whistle. From some corner of the church, a white figure quickly emerged, and with a squeaking sound, it rushed into Driver's arms.
"Oh my god, how did you bring it out?!" Ron's eyes widened. Isn't this the big white rat? He had never seen it before and thought Driver had left it in its nest!
"Dabai is very good at hiding himself," Driver handed the rat to Boonie with a smile, "Dabai was bitten by its own kind, can you treat it too?"
Bunny hid away in fear, but it seemed that Dabai was also somewhat intelligent and knew that the little guy in front of him was the one who could cure him, so he did not show any tendency to attack.
"This is my first time curing a mouse..." Boonie began to cast a spell in frustration, "Forget it, hold it tight, I don't want it to bite me."
The other priests and believers in the church were curiously watching the interactions between the several small races here, but most of these people were ordinary humans and could not see any clues at all. They just thought that Driver was just a halfling with strange interests.
Halflings do so many strange things, so this isn't really a strange thing.
"All right!"
Boonie finished casting the spell, and as soon as Driver let go, Baymax quickly ran away and disappeared without a trace again, waiting for the next call from his master.
"Do you have anything else to do?"
"Yes," Ron said quickly, "I want to ask, is the area around here in drought now? Where can we go to get relief?"
"It's basically like this around here," Bunny thought for a moment, "If you want to leave, I'm afraid you'll need to prepare a lot of water and food, at least enough to cross the Delusion Land in the south."
"The drought has basically reached the end of its strength in Flåm, but there are no other towns around. If you want to find a place to stay, you must leave from there."
"Delusionally?" Ron had never heard of the name before.
"It's a complex area of forests, swamps, and hills," Lavinia continued. "I heard there are all kinds of dangers and opportunities there, but the truth is that nine out of ten people who go in can't get out. It's a veritable place of death."
"If that's the case... Ivy, how did you get here?"
"To the east of this is a continuous mountain range called the Hezong Mountains," Ivy blinked, "there is almost no water source in it. Even when we came here, we prepared enough drinking water before we dared to cross it. And in the current situation, it is almost impossible for us to reach the other side alive."
"What about the west?"
"The west is all desert, and I heard there are bandits there," Bunny said as she walked to the back and took out a map to show Ron. "It's a paradise for adventurers and desperadoes, but there are only three of you, so it's still very dangerous to go there."
"But the good news is that Yungang is on the other side of the Gobi Desert," Ivy pointed to a particularly large city on the map, "The merchant we escorted before wanted to open up a trade route in this area. After all, the shortest distance between two points is a straight line."
"That's a bit wishful thinking," Lavinia sneered. "Where's he? Could he have died doing this?"
