Chapter 47
"No matter how you look at it, it's just an ordinary storybook!"
Rosen looked at it from beginning to end but found nothing unusual.
It's not surprising, really. If a storybook that's mass-produced could easily reveal any secrets hidden inside, then those secrets would be worthless.
Of course, it's also possible that there are no secrets inside, and that Rosen's father simply loved the story in the book too much.
Rosen decided to look at the Howard family's other books to see if he could find anything else in them.
Of course, while reading, Rosen was not idle. As an artist, imagination is of paramount importance. He would use his mental canvas to add illustrations to the content he read on a conscious level while reading.
Two days later, Rosen picked up a book that resembled a family tree of the Howard family.
This book records everything from the Howard family's ancestors to the birth of young Rosen.
Each member of the Howard family throughout history is described in the book with at least several thousand words of text and a vivid portrait.
As he flipped through the pages, Rosen suddenly came across a name that seemed somewhat unexpected.
Lord Howard, the fifth patriarch of the Howard family, is a strange man who left no name.
Like Rosen's father, this person was a novelist in the artist subgenre.
And the only pen name left behind is none other than the author of that storybook.
So, Rosen's father left his noble coat of arms on that book in remembrance of his ancestors?
Rosen realized he might be overthinking things, so he shook his head and continued reading.
Anyway, reading is very interesting, and drawing illustrations on the canvas of the mind while reading can also improve one's drawing skills and imagination.
So this kind of practice is not bad, it's better than the boring, endless drawing at home.
However, upon reading the brief biography of the fifth Lord Howard, Rosen's doubts, which had been building up, resurfaced.
Because he discovered that the Howard family's decline began in this generation.
Moreover, the fifth Lord Howard was actually a novelist from Gundam Sequence 7.
With such a high rank, second only to the first generation, the Howard family should have developed even better under this leader's guidance. However, the Howard family has declined more and more since this generation.
Rosen continued reading, noting that the sixth Lord Howard frequently complained about his father in his own written account.
Because the fifth Lord Howard was murdered.
He seems to have written about the secrets of other nobles in a book that he shouldn't have, in order to write a bestselling novel. As a result, he offended many nobles, so the sixth Lord Howard always suspected that his father was murdered in revenge.
Finally, in accordance with his father's dying wish, he even erased the name of the fifth Lord Howard.
"I'm now certain this book holds a secret."
Rosen picked up the storybook titled "The Pirate Adventures of Machado" again.
Machado was born in a small fishing village, which was ravaged by pirates when he was very young, leaving him an orphan.
After becoming an orphan, Machado tries to join a pirate ship as a trainee pirate doing odd jobs. He then grows up to become a real pirate and embarks on an adventure of raiding various places with the pirate ship.
In his middle age, Machado had a chance to awaken his spirituality and become a Sequence 9 pirate captain.
Since acquiring his own pirate ship, Machado's life began to decline rapidly after reaching its peak.
Because the pirate ship he acquired was of very poor quality, Machado's pirate ship was destroyed by a merchant ship during a raid, and he eventually suffered irreparable injuries and returned to the fishing village to await his death.
Although the book ends in tragedy for the protagonist, Machado's pirate experiences are very interesting.
So this book has a high publication volume, but if there is a secret in it, where is it hidden?
After finishing the first book, Rosen flipped through Machado's Pirate Voyages for the third time, and when he got to the beginning, he suddenly seemed to be deep in thought.
This book was a new copy, but Rosen's father must have read it many times.
The book bore numerous signs of having been read multiple times. Even Rosen's father, a novelist, needed to read it repeatedly to discover the problems; one can imagine the difficulty for Rosen, a painter, to uncover the hidden secrets. Reluctantly, Rosen put the book down, intending to relax and read something else.
A few days later, Rosen looked thoughtfully at a book in his hand.
This is also a storybook, and a very old and tattered one at that.
The specific year of its issuance was during the lifetime of the fifth Lord Howard.
The book wasn't written by this person, but they left many strange annotations in it.
These comments were not complimentary; the fifth Lord Howard was a very talented but arrogant man.
In his annotations, he vehemently criticized the storybook, arguing that a good storybook must not allow readers to guess how the story will unfold, otherwise it would lose the greatest pleasure of the unknown. He even wrote in his annotations how he would hide secrets in the story.
Rosen took out Machado's Pirate Travelogue and tried to find the secrets within by comparing it with the annotations.
However, he still couldn't find anything, so it seems he doesn't have a talent for decryption.
Rosen put the book away for the time being. Although he had inherited the memories of little Rosen, he was still little Rosen. He had no feelings for little Rosen's parents and no desire to know the cause of their deaths.
Of course, once he becomes stronger and has more methods, he wouldn't mind helping Little Rosen fulfill his greatest wish.
In the days that followed, Rosen continued reading day and night.
After finishing reading all the books in his study, he also purchased thousands of best-selling books from bookstores.
The vast majority of these are masterpieces by novelists from various countries, and these biographical books can greatly broaden his horizons.
So much so that after two months, Rosen's spirituality had unknowingly grown to 10 points through drawing illustrations.
On this day, Rosen arrived at the front desk of the Artists' Guild, chatted with the receptionist for a while, and then the postman delivered a package containing two extraordinary artifacts he had ordered: an alchemical tool that could be implanted into a human brain to control their life and death.
This thing is somewhat inhumane, so it's not sold officially; you can only buy it on the black market through a proxy.
Rosen waited a month before the middleman he had entrusted successfully received the goods.
Rosen returned to the Pseudo-Spirit Realm carrying the package and immediately entered the dungeon of Rose Castle in Marthadora.
The two unlucky players, Nurdin and Hubert, have been imprisoned in the dungeon for months.
Over the past few months, these two former fugitives and pursuers have actually grown closer due to their shared plight. When they saw Rosen, who hadn't shown up for a long time, arrive outside the dungeon, they were both nervous and at a loss.
Rosen took out a syringe and a mirror and sent them into the dungeon through a small window.
"Inject this into the carotid artery in the neck."
Rosen said in an unquestionable manner.
"Can we skip the injection?"
"Nurdin said in a trembling voice."
Rosen shoved the muzzle of the Godslayer Crossbow into the window and aimed it at Nurdin.
Under the threat of death, Nurdin took the syringe and carefully aimed it at his carotid artery in the mirror.
puff!
As the injection gun was pushed forward, an alchemical chip the size of a pinhead flowed through the bloodstream to the brain.
Hubert then injected himself with the alchemical chip.
Only then did Rosen feel relieved enough to open the cell and release Nurdin and Hubert, allowing them to see the light of day again.
