Chapter 88 Abandoned Train
Chapter 88 Abandoned Train
"Brother Jiang, how can you be so steady?"
Qi Sixing looked enviously at Jiang Shi'an, who was at the front, walking unhurriedly as if he were on vacation.
“I’ve learned skydiving before,” Jiang Shi’an said casually.
Song Jinhe wasn't surprised at all; she had received professional firearms training, so parachuting wasn't unusual for her.
"If a zombie were chasing you, your fear of heights would be cured instantly."
She stepped onto the rusty railway tracks and glanced at the skeleton in front of her.
The melted flesh had become one with the tracks, and the ribs lay sprawled across the rust-red tracks. The mountain wind blew by, leaving only desolation and ruin.
"I remember the slowest green train I ever took passed through here, a whole two days in a hard seat."
Qi Sixing recalled, "Before setting off, I thought, 'It's just 48 hours. I'm a college student with a tough life and I'm not afraid.' On the first day, I enjoyed the scenery, ate snacks, and listened to people chatting. On the second day, I felt uncomfortable all over and had no will to live. When I got off the train, I was dumbfounded. I never took that train again."
"In the past, people would travel far and wide to attend a grand banquet and eat instant noodles on a green train. Now, instant noodles have become a rare commodity, and there are no more grand banquets. All that's left are zombies."
They had all been in Wucheng before, and there was still a sense of familiarity in their hearts. Now they were really leaving, and perhaps they would never have the chance to come back.
Qi Sixing was about to straighten his back and look back when a sudden gust of wind blew so hard he couldn't open his eyes. He quickly steadied himself and continued walking forward.
"When the apocalypse started, I ran home for my life, but unfortunately, I didn't even get to see them one last time," Qi Sixing said with a bitter smile.
"Jinhe, didn't you also go to university in Wucheng before?"
“Yes.” Song Jinhe nodded. “I’ve ridden this train line before. My family is very strict, so I don’t have many opportunities to go out.”
She never attended such a good university in her original world, nor could she go out and see a wider world; she was just using her money to get by.
I experienced a lot in the apocalypse, and survival was quite difficult.
"There are four zombies coming from ahead." Song Jinhe's eyes were serious.
“I see it.” Jiang Shi’an took out his knife.
Without bullets in this place, it's difficult to deal with four zombies at once; if you're not careful, you'll be pushed off the cliff by them.
They've already gone halfway; there's no way they can turn back.
Song Jinhe and Qi Sixing, who was at the very back, both picked up their weapons and stood ready for battle.
The zombies moved with incredible speed and quickly reached them, lunging forward with outstretched arms.
Jiang Shi'an restrained the zombie with one hand and stabbed it in the head with a short knife with the other, then pushed the zombie down.
As he dealt with the first zombie, the second one pounced on him. Song Jinhe raised his senses to the highest level, gripped his knife, and rushed to meet it from Jiang Shi'an's side.
The bridge was narrow, which made it difficult for them to maneuver. The third and fourth ones behind them didn't even have lips; their black teeth were exposed, and a low, hoarse hiss came from their throats. They were coming on fiercely.
Song Jinhe had just dealt with the second one when her body was already at the edge and would fall off if she went any further. She was already nervous enough when she saw the limited space next to her shoulder out of the corner of her eye. Two more pounced on her at once and she was a little overwhelmed.
Qi Sixing focused his attention, aimed carefully, and shot an arrow through the zombie's brain.
He wasn't just watching from behind without taking action; it was just that the wind was too strong there, and the arrows would miss if they were too far away. He could only be sure of hitting the target when the zombies were close.
With only one zombie left, the pressure was greatly reduced, and Jiang Shi'an finished it off with a single slash by the neck.
Song Jinhe quickly returned to the center of the tracks to catch her breath. It was too high; it scared her to death, and the lighter in her pocket even fell down.
Luckily, the lighter was almost out of gas, so it wasn't too painful to lose it.
After the brief incident, the three of them finally crossed the overpass.
The railway had been abandoned for a year, and the plants on both sides had grown very tall, with vines even climbing onto the tracks. These plants were probably poisonous.
Song Jinhe didn't know what had happened, but the back of her hand was red and itchy, and applying allergy medicine didn't help much.
Jiang Shi'an grabbed her hand, "The more you scratch, the worse it gets; the medicine won't work that quickly."
The specific allergy medication tailored to her constitution could only be made in Los Angeles with the necessary laboratories and equipment.
Song Jinhe knew that she should just bear with it and it would get better soon, as scratching would spread the itching. But the feeling was so intense that she felt like she wanted to cut herself in two.
She has no shortage of sterile medical gloves, but she doesn't wear them so that her body can adapt to the environment.
Even if a gifted person has a good physique, it's not something that's maxed out all at once. There are individual differences, and everyone's initial stats are different.
Half an hour later, the back of my hand was less itchy, and the redness on my skin began to subside.
The rear of the abandoned green train came into view of the three of them.
The green sheet metal exuded an air of decay, and the things stuck to the train numbers were indistinguishable as either rust or oxidized blood.
The branches of the plants on both sides stretched in through the windows, their lush greenery contrasting sharply with the desolate and lifeless train, as if depicting the gradual swallowing of human civilization by nature.
The rear door of the last carriage was open, and looking inside, all that could be seen under the shadow of plant branches were empty seats covered in dirt.
I saw nothing, not even a sound.
The place was eerily quiet and dilapidated, yet the faint stench lingering in the carriage and the dried blood and putrefied bodily fluids from the waxy human tissue on the ground were clearly distinguishable.
Something terrible must have happened here.

"Let's go once we've packed everything up," Cheng Yan said to the busy crowd.
These past few days, they've scavenged the restaurants on the mountain, finding a small amount of supplies, but enough to solve their basic survival problems.
Rice will spoil if it's cooked, but it's actually edible if it's eaten dry.
The flour can be cooked in a dry pan and then eaten with a little hot water. This is the most convenient way to preserve it and eat it on the go.
There are plenty of wild vegetables on the mountain; you can eat them all along the way.
"I'll carry this, it's not heavy." Li Jin picked up a backpack and put it on her back, making her small body look even thinner.
Uncle Li didn't stop him; he just helped him straighten his backpack.
To survive, one must adapt to this world; things can no longer be the same as before. Even Jing Zhigao will accompany them to explore the path.
The group carried essential supplies and headed forward. They had already lost two men, both of whom had entered the foggy area to search for supplies and returned with symptoms of poisoning, including vomiting, blindness, and difficulty breathing.
Cheng Yan tried his best to save her using the available resources and his knowledge, but he couldn't be saved.
As temperatures rise, the toxic zone will expand, and they must leave as soon as possible.
Besides food, they also found an old tricycle used for hauling goods. Although it was small, it was better than nothing.
After walking for a whole morning, Uncle Li looked at the familiar mountain range and said,
"If all goes well, we'll see the boundary marker of Lianyungang County today, and we can reach Yuecheng by following a straight line."
He had run this road countless times when he was young, and he knew it very well. Even if there was a landslide, he could still find a way to climb over the mountain.
