Chapter 45 Poisonous Snake
Wang Fang looked reluctant and was about to step forward to say a few words to ease the tension, but seeing her son's eyes, she hesitantly withdrew her hand.

The couple had always been honest and upright, never arguing with anyone. Seeing Liu Yanyang like this, they felt guilty, but their son had said that he had risked his life to get the supplies.

Liu Yanyang and her son eventually moved out. Next door, Liu Yanyang talked to Wang Fang for a long time, and just when she was about to achieve her goal of getting Wang Fang to provide supplies, Zhao Yanzhou blocked her again.

As soon as the door closed, Jing Zhigao's face fell instantly upon seeing the empty, desolate room and the clearly visible supplies.

"Mom, why did you agree to move out? We only have this much stuff, how many days will it last? What will we do after that?" Jing Zhigao said impatiently. "I don't want to go out and find supplies."

He had never suffered like this before. His two older sisters did all the housework, and they even gave him a lot of money after they got married.

"There's nothing we can do if they don't agree. You saw Yan Zhou's expression. What good will it do us to fall out with them? If we can maintain good relations, they won't be able to kick us out when we visit in the future."

She knew Wang Fang and her husband too well to refuse.

“Brother Zhao is really something. We’re all relatives, why are you being so petty?” Jing Zhigao said disdainfully. “He’s already taken so many supplies, and he doesn’t show any gratitude or respect for you as an elder. They should also be held responsible for my father’s death!”

Liu Yanyang whispered a reminder, "You should say these things behind closed doors, and whatever you do, don't let them hear."

-

Song Jinhe rode her bicycle, dragging supplies, slowly and shakily along the road, struggling to move forward.

"You really know how to ride?" Walking is faster than her riding a bike.

Cheng Yan's facial expression in the background was exactly like that of an elderly person on the subway looking at their phone.

“This is not learning.” Song Jinhe straightened the dragon head.

Buying a bicycle only to end up not knowing how to ride it is a waste of space.

"Keep it up." Cheng Yan and Zhang Yi had just passed her in their car when it started pouring rain.

Song Jinhe: Wait, she suddenly doesn't want to ride a two-wheeled thing anymore.

I got out of the car and dragged it into the house; it was still faster that way.

Song Jinhe sorted out all the supplies she found, cutting the large ham into pieces and removing the bones to make soup, striving not to waste a single bit.

Organizing supplies is no easy task; it takes several days each time. She calculated that the current supplies are enough to last for half a year, and that's enough to ensure that people are well-fed and don't go hungry.

But the generator fuel certainly won't last that long, and without sunlight, the photovoltaic panels won't work either.

Song Jinhe took out a few eggs from her spatial storage, intending to see if they could hatch.

The more supplies we search, the less we have. If we can raise some chickens and ducks and grow some vegetables, we won't have to worry about food in the future.

She first found an old cardboard box, lined it with warm cotton, put in some hand warmers from the pharmacy, and checked the temperature with a thermometer.

While waiting, she took out a whetstone and sharpened her knife in the backyard. Seeing her professional skills, Cheng Yan turned around in surprise and asked, "You really know how?"

If it weren't for the lack of resources, he had no doubt that Song Jinhe could set up a furnace and forge iron himself.

The day before yesterday, he saw Song Jinhe teaching Uncle Li how to reinforce wooden stakes using mortise and tenon joints. Everyone was asking her what she used to do, as it was rare to see such a young girl doing these things.

Jiang Shi'an has also been busy these past two days, extracting chemical raw materials using limited resources.

"No," Song Jinhe said honestly. "I only know the procedure. This is my first time doing this myself, and I've been figuring it out for a few days."

I didn't even fight any zombies, and my hands were calloused from all the work. It took me a whole week to finally sharpen the knife.

This isn't enough. The weather hasn't improved, and many people have developed rashes. The most severe cases involve entire necks that are red and show signs of ulceration, causing itching and pain. It's much worse than what Song Jinhe experienced before, and applying ointment hasn't helped.

It's not just because of the dampness, but also because the overall environment is becoming increasingly harsh for humans.

Extreme weather doesn't suddenly become so extreme as to destroy all life; it's more like a fast-forwarded selection process where only the fittest survive.

They felt uncomfortable, but the activity of snakes, insects, rodents and ants became more and more frequent, and trees and weeds grew faster, especially the thorny wild plants by the roadside.

Many people set traps to catch rats, as these animals carry a variety of bacteria. However, when food is scarce, people don't care about these things; after all, it's meat.

Song Jinhe habitually checked the eggs in the box every morning, counting, "One, two."

Her expression suddenly changed.

Two eggs are missing; we searched the whole box but couldn't find them.

The eggs she had painstakingly incubated for so long were stolen?
"Who did this? Come out here, or I'll beat you to death!"

Just then, Song Jinhe suddenly felt a chill run down her back and instinctively took a step back.

At the same time, something as thick as a wrist fell from the sky and landed on the ground next to the cardboard box.

It's a snake! Holy crap!
If she hadn't dodged back, the snake could have fallen right up and hung around her neck!
The picture was so beautiful that she didn't dare to think about it.

Seeing the snake swimming towards her, Song Jinhe hurriedly jumped back, took out her newly sharpened knife, and slashed at it. The snake was fast, leaping up to bite her hand.

This is a triangular-headed creature, and its markings suggest it's highly venomous. If you get bitten by it, there's no antivenom available, and you might have to find a shady spot to lie down and wait to die.

The thought that even a snake cut in half could bite someone to death made Song Jinhe not dare to gamble. She quickly dodged to the side and then raised her knife to chop down again.

Two sections of the snake's body fell to the ground, still writhing, and Song Jinhe didn't dare to pick them up.

Those two eggs are missing; it was the one that stole them!
If you see a snake, there is likely a snake nest nearby.

Song Jinhe searched the yard with a stick. Other medicines were easy to find, but serum, which has strict storage requirements and is complicated to produce, is something that hospitals generally don't stock in large quantities, and it would be even harder to find in the apocalypse. Getting bitten would be a big problem.

Song Jinhe's companions inside heard the commotion and came out, seeing the snake carcass on the ground, which confirmed Song Jinhe's guess.

"The venom of this snake is neurotoxic. Being bitten by it won't cause tissue ulceration requiring amputation, but it will cause difficulty breathing until death," Cheng Yan said, resting his chin on his hand.

"Could we extract its venom?" Song Jinhe suddenly had a whimsical idea.

How could this not be a deadly weapon?

“Okay.” Jiang Shi’an put on gloves and grabbed the snake’s head with swift movements.

"If I had known this would happen, I would have tried to catch it earlier, so I could have collected the venom more times."

Cheng Yan turned to look at Song Jinhe, who was sighing, and thought to himself, "As expected of you, even in the apocalypse you still want to do aquaculture and raise snakes."

"Should we eat this snake or...?" Zhang Yi asked from the side.

Snakes have many parasites, but they can still be eaten after being cooked.

Song Jinhe said she wouldn't eat it, and anyone who wanted to eat it could do so. She said she wouldn't be picky when there was no food, but now that there was food, there was no need to eat it.

If no one eats it, it will be taken out and buried. The main reason for not giving it to others is to prevent food poisoning and potential trouble.

The next map is the wilderness!
