Chapter 4, Section 4: Telepathy
Chapter 4, Part 4: Telepathy
So this is what the nurse meant by demons and monsters.
The blindfold flashed red, and a nurse's urgent voice could be heard.
"Mr. Su!"
"You have encountered demons and monsters!"
"Put on your vision devices immediately and leave with me!"
Suger leaned against the wall and slowly sat down. His chest felt empty; he was powerless to trust anyone anymore and couldn't distinguish between truth and falsehood.
Is the "nurse" we're talking about now really the same nurse from the beginning? How can we be sure that it's not a new image of the "general"?
Amidst the cacophony of wind and rain, and the lingering sounds of Buddhist chants, he sat there blankly, once again utterly alone.
A faint red light appeared in the darkness.
A sphere the size of an eyeball flew out from the depths of the building and hovered next to Suger.
Its steel-blue sphere is inlaid with a ring of red crystals resembling insect compound eyes, and six short legs protrude from its bottom.
Suger tensed up again, pressing his back against the wall warily.
The sphere circled him once, then returned along the same path, and the red light disappeared into the darkness.
"Hey, are you okay?"
A sound came from the darkness.
Su Ge was taken aback.
"Who?"
A silver-white bald head drifted in from the darkness, its nickel alloy plating reflecting the neon lights in the rain, exuding a cold, hard metallic texture.
The flying sphere clicked and stuck into the empty eye socket of the skull. There were two such eyes, one in the eye socket and another pair in the fontanelle on the side of the brain, for a total of four.
The head slowly approached, and the body below was faintly illuminated by the neon lights outside the building. It was dressed in a long robe and looked like a monk-type robot.
Suger stood up warily, and the bald man also stopped about ten meters away, asking, "You seem to be injured?"
Socrates couldn't tell whether the uninvited guest was friend or foe, and remained vigilantly silent, the horizon creaking with warnings at his feet.
"I have no ill intentions."
The bald man glanced at the scene on the ground and understood immediately.
"Were you led by a ghost?"
Suger remained tense, but the bald man noticed the subtle change in his expression—an intention to listen—and smiled slightly.
"This is the summit of Yama, which should have been the abode of celestial beings, but now it is inhabited by many ghosts. Over the years, thousands of lost souls have fallen to their deaths here. You are not the first to be tricked into coming here."
"However, ghosts understand people's hearts and can often find your weakest points and what you crave most. It's truly remarkable that you were able to escape its allure."
"How did you do that?" the bald man asked tentatively.
"leave me alone."
"Socrates said coldly."
A voice suddenly sounded behind him: "Behave yourself."
A cold gun barrel was pressed firmly against Suger's jaw.
Suger was startled and instinctively reached for the gun, but the muzzle immediately rose even higher.
He froze, raised his hands, and turned his head to try to see the attacker clearly, but the gun barrel pressed down hard, pushing against his chin and forcing him to tilt his head back.
"Hands down."
According to the person behind it.
Suger slowly lowered his hands, large beads of sweat rolling down his forehead, down his cheeks, and wetting the edge of the gun muzzle.
He strained his eyes downwards and could vaguely see the hand holding the gun encased in a black sleeve. At that moment, the sleeve, against the backdrop of the hospital gown, was visibly fading to a grayish-white color similar to the gown, like the skin of a chameleon.
"Move again, and I'll kill you."
Behind Suger, darkness was lifted, revealing a wisp of gray hair, followed by the face of a pale man with sparse eyebrows and smooth skin. He looked to be only in his early twenties, but his voice sounded like that of a middle-aged man.
"He really is a native." The gray-haired man scanned Sug's body and murmured softly.
"Are you sure?" the bald man asked doubtfully.
"You come and take a look?" The gray-haired man glanced at the bald man.
“Wait,” Sog gasped, “you guys are going to…”
Before he could finish speaking, the gray-haired man roughly shoved the gun into his mouth.
"Do not talk."
The gray-haired man, still holding the gun, moved from behind to face Suger, glanced down at the incessantly noisy world, and lightly kicked with his toe.
The view flew beyond the edge of the building, falling into darkness with the night rain.
Four eyes flew up from the bald man's metal head and hovered around Suger.
A dozen seconds later, his eyes returned to their original position, and the bald man nodded with a sigh of relief.
"Okay, let's see what's wrong with him."
Another figure emerged from the darkness, clad in a white sterile gown, looking like a doctor.
He walked up to Suger and scanned him up and down with his pale blue lattice eyes.
A dozen seconds later, the doctor exclaimed in shock:
"He's a hibernator!"
"Genuine?"
"The Hongshan Medical Association broadcast his awakening process live. I just watched the thirteen-hour live stream, and it's definitely him," the doctor said confidently.
The gray-haired man's eyelids twitched, and he gestured with his chin toward the doctor.
"Give him a muscle relaxant."
The doctor nodded, raised his hand, and flicked the injection needle from the tip of his index finger, bringing it close to Suger's neck.
As the needle was about to touch his skin, the gray-haired man slightly relaxed his arm to make the injection easier.
In that instant, Suger suddenly kicked the doctor, preparing to use the momentum to break free from the gray-haired man's grip.
However, the doctor, kicked in the abdomen, remained completely still. Socrates, on the other hand, was thrown back, his back slamming heavily against the wall, his mind blank, feeling as if he had fallen into an ice cave.
It’s over.
call out!
He heard a barely audible buzzing sound, followed by a sudden, invasive burning pain in his abdomen. He shuddered, clutched his stomach in agony, and curled up like a shrimp.
A bloodstain appeared on the hospital gown, and it kept getting bigger.
The bald man withdrew the finger that had injured Suger, strode forward, and angrily shouted, "Why are you running! You didn't have to suffer, why did you have to be so stubborn?"
He grabbed Suger's hair and slammed his head against the wall.
"Does this make you feel better? Does this make you feel better? Ah!"
"You're insane!" The gray-haired man grabbed the bald man's shoulder.
The bald man suddenly turned his head, his brows furrowed in anger. When he met the gray-haired man's gloomy gaze, his expression froze as if he had just come to his senses, and his anger instantly vanished.
He took a step back, bowed his head and raised his palms to the fallen Sog, and said with remorse, "Forgive me, forgive me, you offered me your body, yet I was filled with anger..."
The doctor squatted down, opened the blood-stained hospital gown, and after a brief examination, breathed a sigh of relief.
"Fortunately, it wasn't a fatal injury."
He applied some gel to the wound, and the bleeding stopped immediately. Then he inserted the needle for the muscle relaxant into Soger's vein.
The drug took effect quickly, and Suger felt numbness in his limbs, almost losing consciousness.
The doctor laid Suger down, withdrew the needle from his fingertip, and said, "You've struck gold. A company is currently researching physical immortality and is offering 140,000 to acquire the endocrine system of a hibernating person."
“Too low.” The gray-haired man shook his head. “At least two hundred thousand. I’ll find a way.”
"Then it all depends on you. What about the other organs, the hematopoietic system?" the doctor asked.
“Finding the right seller is too much trouble. Just use a middleman. It’ll cost 90,000 yuan as a package deal,” the gray-haired man said.
"Okay, what about the nervous system? It doesn't seem like it would fetch a good price."
How long did he hibernate?
"The data found is not clean."
The doctor pressed on the back of Suger's head and the top of his head.
"His anterior and posterior fontanelles were completely closed... He hadn't undergone genetic optimization. He lived in an era before invasive brain-computer interfaces were widespread, probably more than a century ago?"
"Are there any institutions researching this?" The gray-haired man pondered for a moment, "The brain and neural structure of native humans..."
"I didn't hear that."
"Then just find any wet component factory, process it into live hardware, and sell it to the deep web. The profit will be around 30,000, or at least more."
Suger's body went limp, but his mind remained clear. He listened to their conversation word for word, and the more he listened, the colder his heart became. Organ traffickers in this era had developed a complete industrial chain.
"You bastard," he cursed inwardly, but no sound came out.
He wasn't afraid of death. The moment he entered the hibernation pod, he was told that the technology wasn't mature enough. He was prepared not to wake up, but who could accept being priced like livestock?
"After it's done, each person will receive 120,000." A smile appeared on the bald man's silver-white face. "Lately, I've been having many distracting thoughts. With this offering, I can use it to purify my six senses and kill off ignorance and afflictions. Good, good!"
“I’ll take 180,000.” The gray-haired man looked at the bald man and said slowly, “You two split the remaining 180,000. I don’t care how you divide it.”
The bald man's expression changed.
The doctor hesitated for a moment, then said cautiously, "This is just too unfair..."
"I'm still a little over 100,000 short before I can set up the ritual and ascend to the Spirit Realm," the gray-haired man said, emphasizing each word. "The extra amount is a loan."
The bald man and the doctor looked at each other in bewilderment.
Su suddenly let out a painful groan, her abdomen spasming in waves.
"Wait a minute." The doctor frowned, came to Suger's side, and examined the wound again.
“It’s over,” he said in a deep voice. “The stomach lining is ruptured.” “But the bleeding stopped?” The gray-haired man raised an eyebrow in surprise.
"Stopping the bleeding is a minor issue." The doctor glanced helplessly at the bald man. "If the stomach acid leaks out and isn't cleaned up in time, it will corrode the organs."
"Then let's clean it up!" the bald man said eagerly.
"It won't work here," the doctor sighed.
"Look what you've done!" The gray-haired man glared at the bald man, then said to the doctor, "Take him away first."
"What a mess I made?" The bald man's four compound eyes flashed red as he argued loudly, "If you hadn't failed to capture him, he wouldn't have had a chance to struggle!"
"What do you mean?" The gray-haired man frowned.
……
Suger's eyelids were so weak that he could barely open them a crack. He saw blurry figures moving around in his eyes and they started arguing.
"By reversing cause and effect, aren't you showing signs of greed?!"
"Greedy?" The gray-haired man sneered.
"Otherwise, how will you raise enough money to ascend to immortality!"
The arguing around him grew louder and louder, and the burning pain in Suger's abdomen became more and more obvious.
It felt as if my brain was also heating up, as if a heating rod had been inserted, and my cerebrospinal fluid was about to boil.
His blurry vision gradually cleared, and the figure stopped moving.
……
Sog saw the silver-white bald head appear face to face before him, its four compound eyes shooting out a blinding red light from beneath its angry and distorted brows.
"okay!"
It was the gray-haired man's voice, and Suger felt that the voice was coming from his own throat.
what happened?
Socrates thought he must be lying on the ground, unable to even open his eyes.
Immediately afterwards, he saw "himself" raise a silver pistol with lightning speed, the muzzle pressed against the bald man's forehead.
The bald man's silvery-white features shrank in fear, and Suger could almost see the reflection of each lattice in his compound eyes.
The reflections showed countless gray-haired men holding guns.
Suger was stunned.
He suddenly remembered that before entering this place, the general had given him the perspective of the wrathful Vajra.
Now, he inexplicably saw the same scene that the gray-haired man saw.
It was as if it connected to the gray-haired man's mind.
Is it an illusion?
But all the sounds and images were so clear that Suger could even sense the gray-haired man's touch.
It wasn't the sensation of a half-wet hospital gown sticking to my skin, but the sensation of the chameleon-like, cool, soft outer garment worn by the gray-haired man covering my skin.
The tactile sensation of pressing your palm firmly against the non-slip leather grip.
The tactile sensation of the index fingertip touching the trigger.
Deduct it...
Deduct it.
Socrates thought in a daze.
……
"Calm down!" The gray-haired man pointed a gun at the bald man. "Splitting it equally isn't impossible. Let's take the goods back first, then we'll talk about other things."
"That's good!"
The bald man seemed to change his emotions without any transition; in an instant, he went from anger to joy.
"I was careless for a moment and fell into anger again. What a sin, what a sin..."
boom!
The sudden gunshot interrupted the bald man's repentance.
The bullet spun as it flew out of the muzzle and burrowed into the compound eye on the right side of the bald man's silver-white head, the bullet tip quietly blooming like a lotus flower.
The enormous kinetic energy, as the lotus petals rotated, churned, and spread, instantly destroyed the surrounding mechanical structures and biological tissues in an explosive manner!
Snapped!
Half of the bald man's head turned into scattered metal fragments and pieces of flesh.
"Crime, crime, crime, crime, crime, crime, crime, crime, crime..."
The unfinished sentence stuck in his throat, growing faster and faster until it became a piercing shriek.
……
The gray-haired man lowered his head in disbelief, staring blankly at the pistol in his eyes. He was stunned for a moment before being snapped out of his daze by the doctor's scream.
He turned his head and saw the doctor give him a horrified look before turning and running away.
"listen to me!"
The gray-haired man shouted.
"Hey!"
The doctor actually ran even faster.
The gray-haired man's expression shifted between anger and uncertainty. Clearly, his companions had misunderstood him, believing he intended to kill and rob, and he had no chance to defend himself.
He hesitated for only half a second before decisively raising his gun and aiming it at the doctor's back.
A gunshot rang out, and the doctor fell to the ground.
The gray-haired man slowly lowered his straight arm.
He remained silent for a long time, then turned back to look at the bald man's screaming corpse and fired another shot.
The world is quiet.
The gray-haired man let out a breath, slightly out of breath, and examined his right hand holding the gun.
Was that a nervous disorder just now?
This is a common occurrence in this era.
But this time, the clonic twitching of his index finger happened to pull the trigger, causing him to kill two of his accomplices.
Fortunately, this isn't all bad; he should have gotten rid of these two burdens long ago.
He sighed, strode over to the bald man's body, found the undamaged memory chips on his body, and destroyed them one by one.
They then followed the same method on the doctor's body.
After doing all that, he walked over to Su Ge and looked him up and down.
"Are you still alive?"
Suger struggled to open his eyes halfway, looking at the bloodstains on the gray-haired man's face, and tugged at the corners of his mouth.
"He won't die..."
……
The gray-haired man frowned; the muscle relaxant was almost worn off.
He turned to look at the doctor's body, intending to go over and find some medicine, when he felt a strange sensation in his right hand again.
He frowned, glancing out of the corner of his eye at the hibernating man on the ground struggling to raise his right hand.
His right hand, following this movement, moved upwards inch by inch, uncontrollably.
The gray-haired man looked terrified.
"what have you done?!"
……
Suger's head was throbbing with pain, and he felt like his brain was being boiled.
His shock was no less than that of the gray-haired man, and he even found it absurd.
He truly entered the gray-haired man's mind.
It can even control his movements.
He struggled to raise his hand, aiming it at his chin.
The gray-haired man stared in disbelief, gripping his pistol and simultaneously pressing it against his chin.
The gun barrel slowly pushed upwards, squeezing and deforming the pale skin.
"No!"
"No no no no no!"
He screamed in panic.
"Don't shoot! I'll give you money! I have money! Ahh, ascension! I, I'll make you ascend!"
His right hand, however, seemed to no longer belong to him, pinning him against the wall and forcing him to tilt his head back, stand on tiptoe, and tremble with tension in his calves.
"Ahhhh!"
His face flushed red, his chest heaved violently, and he couldn't pry his right hand open even half an inch, no matter how hard he tried.
In his panic, he looked down at Suger with fear, as if he had realized something.
"Telepathy!"
"Buddha! You are the Buddha..."
boom!
Blood and flesh splattered everywhere, his head exploded like a watermelon, and the gray-haired man's hands hung limply, one in front of the other.
The pistol fell to the ground.
Suger's trembling right hand finally fell down, splattered with drops of blood, a stark contrast of black and white.
