"Then? I wouldn't know." Fang Ziye felt a little strange.

But it's hard to pinpoint exactly what's wrong.

Jie Han then asked, "Senior brother, guess how old Lan Tianluo is this year?"

"Didn't you say twenty-two?" Fang Ziye sat down next to Jie Han, interlacing his fingers and placing them on the table.

"This is what Lan Tianlu told us, which is why we need you to guess, Senior Brother," Jie Han shook his head.

"How could I possibly guess that? Twenty-five or twenty-six?" Fang Ziye said again.

"20 years old, at most a little over! ~ Just looks a bit older than my age."

"He was previously in the gifted youth program."

"I always felt that the relationship between Lan Tianluo and Senior Sister Luo Tingzhu was a little strange, but I couldn't quite put my finger on what was wrong."

"Anyway, this isn't the first time they've gone out to eat." Jie Han hesitated, as if he were hinting at something to Fang Ziye.

"Hey, don't overthink it. It's probably not what you're thinking," Fang Ziye replied.

Jie Han immediately shook his head and said, "Sigh, never mind, never mind."

"By the way, senior brother, I went to the research department to get reimbursed a few days ago. Do you know how high our master's paper publication bonus is this year?"

"Around 15?" Fang Ziye pondered for a moment before asking.

Upon hearing Fang Ziye's guess, Jie Han replied in a dejected tone, "About fifteen."

"The first eight-point papers are 80,000 words, and then there are some other minor SCI papers, about five or six in total, totaling 70,000 words."

“Master said that the three of us should divide the remaining 40,000, and he would take ten.” Jie Han gestured.

"You dare to take it?" Fang Ziye asked without hesitation.

Fang Ziye himself is too ashamed to take it. Those eight points of SCI publications were originally Yuan Weihong's own work; how could he possibly accept them? Even if it were the remaining twenty or thirty thousand yuan after tax, Fang Ziye would still feel embarrassed to take it after Yuan Weihong's share.

"I dare not, that's why I just asked you, senior brother."

“But Master’s meaning is that we have to take it, even if it’s not right, it’s a token of our goodwill and a lucky charm. After all, Master said that if you, senior brother, put in your best effort this year, our group’s bonus at the beginning of next year will be no less than this amount.”

"He is making a disguised investment."

“So, I’m still a little hesitant.” Jie Han’s eyes gleamed with greed.

The teacher was willing to give it, and gave it generously, so Jiehan felt it was acceptable to accept it.

"We'll talk about that when the time comes. Publishing papers and research grants are just side effects; what's more important is what's behind them." Fang Ziye patted Jie Han on the shoulder again.

"Generally speaking..."

Jie Han was unaware of the difficulties of scientific research, but Fang Ziye was. Therefore, he began to communicate and exchange ideas with this 'genius'—

Generally speaking, at Zhongnan Hospital, if you publish in a provincial or municipal journal, you shouldn't talk about it. You should keep it a secret. It's embarrassing to talk about it.

To be honest, even our own master's students don't read articles in provincial or municipal journals. They mostly rely on SCI or CSCD publications.

Even core Chinese journals like CSCD are just the bare minimum for a master's degree to graduate; how can you brag about them?
Fang Ziye felt ashamed enough to graduate with CSCD.

Furthermore, on CSCD, there are instrumental SCIs or case reports.

One to three instrumental articles, such as meta-analyses, bioinformatics analyses, or case reports, regardless of their journal category or type, are not included in the workload calculation unless they are published in a high-impact journal with an impact factor of 15 or higher.

It's just that during my master's studies, I was still very capable, and even after graduating with such a paper, I would still be very successful in a prefecture-level city hospital. That's because research is weak and the research environment is not conducive in prefecture-level city hospitals.

Lan Tianluo is currently at this level; at most, he can only help with scholarships, which isn't of much use.

Of course, for people like Jie Han and Luo Tingzhu, having 4-6 research papers is relatively good. What they lack is the opportunity for basic experiments and basic research projects, not the inability to do so.

At this level, you're basically guaranteed to receive scholarships, and the title of outstanding student is practically guaranteed.

Further scientific research accumulation, like Li Yuanpei, involves writing some instrumental articles on one's own, while relying on the support of senior students to publish one or two relatively low-scoring basic research articles. Only then can one be considered to have truly entered the threshold of scientific research.

Even if a basic research article in Zone 2 or even Zone 3 is more valuable than a meta-analysis article in Zone 1, in the eyes of a true expert, meta-analysis articles are simply not as good as basic articles.

For foundational articles, each five-point section is considered a significant milestone.

Achieving a score of five or higher is extremely difficult.

For example, my senior brother Yan Zhiming has one SCI paper with the highest impact factor of 5.4.

Although the impact factor is not high, the quality of such an article is still far superior to that of a basic research article with an impact factor of 5, even if you publish a case report in a journal with an impact factor of 12 or 13. The quality is simply not on the same level.

As long as you have an article with a score of five or higher, like Fang Ziye and Yan Zhiming, getting into a top-tier municipal hospital in Wuhan is no problem.

No one will hold you back. If you can find some good connections through your teacher, it won't be difficult.

When you graduate with a doctorate, in some less competitive departments, such as anesthesiology or emergency surgery, having two articles with an impact factor of 5-8 and a doctoral degree will make it easy to stay at Zhongnan Hospital.

Even in pediatrics, if you have such expertise during your master's degree, that's highly welcome.

The most difficult part is publishing more than ten academic papers, which is basically something only very talented people can do. Generally speaking, as long as you have one paper, regardless of how many other types of articles you have published, you can try to get a regular hospitalization offer at Zhongnan Hospital.

An article of this caliber requires at least 20+ hours of work. For an average academic PhD student, it would be extremely difficult to complete just one article in three years.

If Senior Brother Sun Shaoqing can accumulate such experience, then I guess that Senior Brother in Joint Surgery should have to give way to Sun Shaoqing.

However, Sun Shaoqing is, after all, a professional PhD, and doesn't have many opportunities to accumulate work experience.

"And what about further up?" Jie Han, not satisfied with the level of gossip Fang Ziye had revealed so far, continued to ask curiously.

"Going up further, if you can publish two basic articles with scores of 10 or higher, up to the associate professor title, basically no one will dare to block you, unless you offend someone."

"And if you're lucky enough to publish 15-20 impactful basic experimental papers, you'll be well-received by the hospital's high-level talent recruitment program. You don't need many, just one is enough."

"Of course, if by chance you manage to get an article in a major journal with a score of 20 to 30 (in the basic category), your workload will be recognized!"

"It's basically unthinkable. In China, unless some super teams throw money at it, it's impossible. If you want to publish using ordinary basic experimental methods, no one will care. Abroad, there are very few young people who can publish. It's usually the private domain of big shots."

"Going further up the chain, it's about innovation at the level of experimental technology. For example, if you can build a mouse that can survive after knocking out the HK2 gene, and then compare the size of tumors in the skin of mice with knocked-out HK2 genes, or open up a completely new pathway, then Professor Deng might be able to give up his position as the office director next door."

There were only the two brothers present, with Fang Ziye being the senior brother, so his words were quite disrespectful.

Jie Han shrank back: "Then forget it. Even Professor Hong can't get his hands on it right now..."

"Damn it, that bastard." Jie Han suddenly received a picture from Lan Tianluo, the ostentatious display of which made Jie Han curse under his breath.

Moreover, the photos at this moment also include one of Lan Tianluo holding a wine glass and clinking glasses with a girl.

……

Inside a Western restaurant on Han Street.

The candlelight was quite romantic, and the breeze from East Lake was blowing in my face, generously bringing in the free air from outside.

"Who are you sending this to?" Luo Tingzhu put down her glass of water and looked at Lan Tianluo across from her, her tone questioning.

“Jie Han”.

"He even paid one-tenth of the money for today's meal."

Then Lan Tianluo put down her phone, looked up, and asked with a slightly complicated expression, "Senior sister, did you recognize me a long time ago?"

"No, I only noticed the birthmark on the back of your neck in November." Luo Tingzhu thought for a moment before replying, her voice slightly unapproachable.

Kelan Tianluo didn't seem easily fooled: "I don't believe it."

“You should have recognized me by mid-August, which is why you chose trauma surgery.”

“You’re wrong!” Luo Tingzhu continued to shake her head.

"You knew I might be going to the trauma surgery department first, which is why you chose that department. Don't think I didn't know. I even found out the information you got about me from your classmate."

"Currently, Chen is in his fifth year of the seven-year clinical medicine program, majoring in spinal surgery, right?" Luo Tingzhu asked Lan Tianluo in return, her tone no longer accusatory, but still somewhat cold.

"But when did you change your name? Would Dad have agreed to you changing your name?"

Looking at the 'stranger' in front of her, named Lan Tianluo but actually Luo Tinglan, nicknamed Xiao Tao, Luo Tingzhu was at a loss for words.

Lan is Lan Tianluo's mother's surname. The true identity of Lan Tianluo was indeed revealed in October, but suspicion about his identity began when Luo Tingzhu first entered the trauma surgery department; she had a rather peculiar feeling about it.

Lan Tianluo replied noncommittally, "Of course Dad agreed. I changed my name a long time ago, back in high school."

At this point, Lan Tianluo suddenly took a deep breath.

After suppressing her emotions, she replied to Jie Han again—

"Brother Han, aside from envy and jealousy, I don't accept any jealousy here. Keep your temper in check."

"I told you long ago, if I don't make a move, all I do is date the prettiest girl. You still didn't believe me, hehe." Lan Tianluo said rather lewdly.

"What are you doing at Zhongnan Hospital? Why don't you study math instead?"

"This is not rational behavior." Luo Tingzhu had no appetite and her emotions were still fluctuating. She even thought about running away, but now she didn't know where she could run to.

"The mathematics department at Seoul National University is not well-known, and the affiliated Zhongnan Hospital of Seoul National University is not a top-tier medical institution."

"Senior sister, what do you think I'm here for?"

"I know my sister was bullied..."

“It’s not like when we were kids.” Lan Tianluo didn’t look up, so Luo Tingzhu didn’t know that his eyes were slightly gritty.

Then he lowered his head and continued replying to Jie Han's message: "I'm not talking anymore, I need to continue eating and chatting about life."

"I'm coming back to bring you good news."

"Get the hell out of here!" Jie Han said indignantly in the laboratory.

He said to Fang Ziye, "Senior brother, this Lan Tianluo is really not human. He usually seems low-key, but he is actually full of bad ideas and has no good intentions at all."

Fang Ziye was only responsible for collecting the relevant preliminary basic research results for the general proposal that Yuan Weihong was about to submit in March, and he did not respond at all.

Then, as if he had thought of something, Jie Han hesitated for a moment and then didn't speak again.

……

"Let's go back home for the New Year, sis," Lan Tianluo said as the meal was drawing to a close.

Luo Tingzhu shook her head: "I don't need your invitation or rewards, and I don't need your pity."

"I don't know whether your decision was naive or well-thought-out, but you have your own life and your own willfulness. I can't be as free and unrestrained as you, and I can't be as willful as you."

“I think I’m fine on my own; I’ve made it through all these years.” Luo Tingzhu picked up her bag and was about to leave.

After standing up, Luo Tingzhu continued, "From now on, you do your own thing. I didn't make you study medicine, and I didn't make you choose to come to Zhongnan Hospital!"

"How you want to develop is your own business."

"Sister." Lan Tianlu waved slightly.

Ke Luo Tingzhu still walked straight away.

Lan Tianluo sat on the table without getting up, his head slightly lowered, his mood a little downcast.

Luo Tingzhu left without looking back, and even paid the bill before leaving.

Lan Tianluo didn't refuse, nor did he rush to pay the bill or anything. He just felt that perhaps the road ahead of him was still quite long.

Regardless of the circumstances, Lan Tianluo felt that his choice was correct.

There is nothing wrong with my birth, and there is nothing wrong with being born to my parents and hoping that they will love each other, after all, they are my parents.

However, it's not wrong for Luo Tingzhu to dislike Lao Luo and her own mother, after all, that's not her home, only her father is there.

But I had this older sister, and I was too young to understand things when I was little.

But as he grew up, Lan Tianluo still wanted to cherish this family bond, since he had no other brothers or sisters.

Of course, Lan Tianluo himself also enjoys studying medicine.

It was only because of her mother's misunderstanding that she thought she wanted to find her sister Luo Tingzhu and keep her company as compensation. It was just a moment of impulse. But Lan Tianluo knew that she liked medicine.

However, this meeting lacked the touching and warm atmosphere of siblings reuniting in TV dramas. All we did was eat a few bites of food and chat for a long time; it was very quiet and lonely.

Even at 11 p.m., Lan Tianluo, who was actually feeling very down, was still sending Jie Han provocative messages to numb herself...

Jie Han was completely numb, so he called Lan Tianlu and lashed out at him with hundreds of words before he felt a little better.

Still trying to act cool?

"My senior brother Fang and I are exhausted from working in the lab. Not only are you going on dates, but you're also always showing off to me. Don't you want to experience the authority of your senior brother?" Jie Han said in a serious tone, adopting the demeanor of a second senior brother.

"Don't think that just because your initial test score is higher than mine, I won't dare to use psychological manipulation on you."

Lan Tianluo's preliminary test score was as high as 434+, making him a freak among freaks, even a level higher than Jie Han, who was the top scorer in the orthopedics written test that year.

"No, senior brother, that's not what I meant."

"What I really wanted to tell you, senior brother, is that the pretty senior sister in our department is my sister. My biological sister."

Jie Han was already climbing to the second floor of the dormitory when his phone fell to the ground.

Jie Han himself almost lost his balance and fell backward, his body nearly collapsing, while he was holding onto the railing.

A few seconds later, Jie Han quickly climbed down, picked up the phone, and after asking Lan Tianluo for clarification, he confirmed Lan Tianluo's identity.

In conclusion, he said, "So you came to Zhongnan Hospital because Sister Zhu came to support you?"

"No, I just want to take that professor down with me, let him experience what it feels like to have someone advise him to back down again, it's that simple," Lan Tianluo replied in a low voice, putting on a show of bravado.

Jie Han: "..."

Lan Tianlu continued, "Of course, that was my thinking before. Now, I think, I don't even know if I can stay in the hospital, yet I still have the delusion to kill a professor. I'm really out of my mind."

"Medical school is too difficult to get into, much more difficult than mathematics school."

"Don't tell anyone else about this except you and Senior Brother Ziye, please! Otherwise my sister will be unhappy."

"But you must tell Senior Brother Ziye."

In an instant, all the doubts in Jie Han's heart became clear.

Lan Tianluo, a math genius, chose a medical school in Han City University, a nobody. Is he just asking for trouble? Even the math department at Han City University probably wouldn't be able to keep up with Lan Tianluo's antics.

What is the reason for this?

But now, everything is explained.

Luo Tingzhu was doing her internal medicine internship at the beginning of last year, and then Lan Tianluo applied for residency training here in the middle of the year and came over in August.

"Then why didn't you help that person last time?" Jie Han continued to press Lan Tianluo.

"He didn't do anything shameful, why should I refuse? I'm my sister's brother, I'm not a sister-obsessed brother, and I don't want to be hospitalized right here." Lan Tianluo replied speechlessly.

If this guy were to get into orthopedics, he probably wouldn't even need his dad to come over; his sister alone could have performed the surgery perfectly on the spot.

Then, re-operation, or manual reduction of the fracture, or manual dislocation after fracture reduction...

"Junior brother, do you think there's any chance I could become your brother-in-law?" Jie Han asked shamelessly.

"Get out!" Lan Tianluo's words clearly dealt with Jie Han, his second senior brother.

……

That evening, Fang Ziye finally received two more batches of pictures, both of them legitimate. One batch came from Luo Tingzhu, showing experimental results obtained from the internal medicine department, with no other incidental information.

He specifically instructed, "Senior, please delete this completely after you finish reading it. Thank you, I borrowed these results."

Fang Ziye remained silent for a while, not saying much.

You can't exactly say, "The borrowed result you sent me is completely useless, can you?"
The second wave came from Qian Qiaofeng's research group.

However, Qian Qiaofeng's research group still brought Fang Ziye a meager two points of knowledge, because Fang Ziye's involvement in their group was still very shallow.
