Reverse flow of the Yellow Springs

Chapter 259 Flesh and Blood Mutants

Looking at the neat handwriting on the paper, Li Yelai seemed to see that girl who was easily embarrassed and blushed.

Those two cloth bags contained strands of her hair, strands of hair imbued with a fearful curse.

The doll didn't know what mission Li Yelai was carrying out, but it still tried its best to prepare a trump card for him.

That inexplicable flutter of emotion left Li Yelai feeling somewhat confused and also a little nostalgic.
Why do you look so lovesick?

Seeing Li Yelai standing there in a daze, Jing Lin suddenly asked a question.

"No way, and I'm wearing a mask too, how could you see that? Has your Spirit Eye finally achieved X-ray vision?" Li Yelai complained as he stuffed the cloth bag into his armor and hid it in the inner pocket.

"Hey, I was just guessing." Jing Lin chuckled. "After checking some equipment, let's leave here first."

Li Yelai nodded and continued checking his backpack. Inside were a molten axe, three bottles of marrow, night vision goggles, a cold smoke device, an oxygen mask, an oxygen tank, and some food.

Among the items were several vacuum-packed food bags, clearly sent by my younger sister. They were all her favorite foods, and there were also letters from her.

Li Yelai opened the letter and quickly glanced at it.

'I understand the general situation regarding my brother's father. I buried him and my mother together.'

'They were so affectionate in life, and they're still like that in death.'

'When you come back, we'll go see them together.'

'I wish I could meet him too.'

"Also, bro, I'm taking my second nap."

The preceding sentences had left Li Yelai feeling somewhat heavy-hearted and guilty. But the last sentence startled him.

"My sister... has gone to sleep again?" Li Yelai asked in astonishment.

“It seems so. Yin Huo said that she advanced after your father brought her back last time. For low-awakening psychics, strong emotional fluctuations can promote their growth. Her talent should be quite good, after all…” Jing Lin replied, “You idiot.”

"It sounds like you're insulting me, but I have no proof." Li Yelai shook his head: "I originally wanted her to stay in one sleep."

“I know.” Jing Lin nodded. “I’m also an older brother. I don’t want my sister to become a psychic either. It’s too dangerous. The higher a psychic climbs, the greater the risks. But not everything goes as we wish. Sometimes, we are forced to make certain compromises. If we older brothers were stronger and had more power, perhaps things would be different.”

Jing Lin's tone was somewhat complicated. As members of the Yaoqing Jing family, especially some of the female family members, they might bear a heavier burden.

Unfortunately, his sister Jingnuo was one of them.

"The divine son of the Jing family?"

Li Yelai's sudden words startled Jing Lin, who then looked at Li Yelai in shock.

Even though he was wearing armor that concealed his face, his shock was palpable.

"What do you know? Where did you get it from?"

This is a secret of the Jing family, and most members have no way of knowing it.

Even direct family members could not possibly know all of this.

Aside from Jing Lin himself, Li Yelai apparently didn't have any close relationships with any members of the Jing family. How did he obtain this information?

Li Yelai would never forget what his mother had gone through.

In order to create a divine child, the Jing family did not hesitate to offer their own blood relatives to a being that was neither human nor ghost.

It was at that time that her mother, Jin Cuihua, or rather, Jinglian, sought help from her father, Li Qiong.

Thus, Li Qiong, the father, defeated more than a dozen experts from the Jing family and took the mother with him. They fled to the third border city.
The mother never revealed her identity until her death. Perhaps it was because of the intense hatred she felt.
“I naturally have my own channels.” Li Yelai paused. “Besides, I remember you once asked me to help your sister if she wanted to stay in the border city. Is she the mother of this generation’s divine child?”

After the disaster, Jing Lin and Li Yelai became closer and discussed this topic. This led Li Yelai to speculate.

Jing Lin looked at Li Yelai warily, and after a few seconds of silence, sighed, "That's right. Now that you know, there's nothing left for me to hide."

My sister is indeed one of the candidates to give birth to a divine child.

Although she didn't show it, I still couldn't bear to let her become that kind of person.
So, if it really comes to that, and she wants to leave, wants to escape, please, and the Third Border City, protect her!

"Don't make things so complicated." Li Yelai chuckled in a low voice, "I am the Chosen One of Chaos, it's perfectly reasonable for me to lead a massive army to the Jing family to snatch someone!"

Li Yelai harbors hostility and reservations towards the Jing family, but he is genuinely friendly towards Jing Lin. The two fight side by side, serving as comrades and partners. If Jing Nuo is willing, he wouldn't mind leading the Chaos Legion to challenge the Jing family.

"Hehe, I almost forgot about that. You have connections in the church." Jing Lin smiled. He understood why Li Yelai was willing to lend a helping hand.

He knew all too well Li Yelai's talent and potential, even though he was currently only a night watchman.

But on holidays, it will inevitably be the top management of the megacity. Perhaps even the next generation of champions!
Moreover, Li Yelai is currently infiltrated within the Ember Church and holds a very high position within the church!

With connections in both the legitimate and underworld circles, the chances of helping Jingnuo escape would be even greater! As long as... as long as Jingnuo wants to.
"Alright, we can discuss this in more detail later. Let's focus on completing the challenge first," Jing Lin said. "What are your thoughts?"

"Let's first determine our location within the wrecked ship," Li Yelai replied. "You should know about my curse; it's not a good place for me to activate my mask ability."

Jing Lin nodded repeatedly: "You'd better not take it, leave it to me! I'm afraid you'll ruin all the wrecked ships!"

Jing Lin was genuinely terrified. Li Yelai's vehicle killer was incredibly dangerous. Didn't you see how many of his vehicles had been killed by him? How many is that now?
If the vehicle killer were triggered inside the Dead Sea wrecked ship, the scene would probably be terrifying. There are countless tons of ships piled up on it. Once it disintegrates, the two people would probably be crushed to death or run over.

"I know I won't use the mask unless absolutely necessary," Li Yelai said with a smile. "Even without the mask, my combat strength is still formidable!"

“Then I look forward to it,” Jing Lin replied.

The two then began to check the location of the cabin.

Due to the unique nature of the Dead Sea wrecked ship, the two were likely underwater, so they did not rashly damage the cabin walls, but instead carefully searched the area.

After confirming that there was still space next door, the two began to break down the wall.

Both were five-sense psychics with extremely high physical strength. They could easily slice through the wall with their heat-melting axes without even using their abilities.

They try to avoid making sounds or strong psionic fluctuations to avoid attracting anything strange.

The two men cut through the wall and filed in, only to find a large number of cars parked there.

Of course, these cars have now been overturned and are lying haphazardly in the seawater, completely totaled.

"This should be the cargo hold at the bottom of the ship. After the hull was attacked, the crew may have tried to save themselves. But all they saw was despair." Jing Lin looked at the breach in the hold; the cargo hold had been pierced through by a submarine that looked like a bullet!

The front half of the submarine was still stuck in the cargo hold.

In this situation, the cargo ship or cruise ship would have absolutely no chance of survival.

Even if there are survivors, they will be trapped here until food or oxygen runs out.
"This is terrible," Li Yelai shook his head. Due to the cramped space inside the submarine, the two abandoned their plan to explore it and instead decided to use the breach created by the submarine to leave the cabin.

They planned to move upwards first, preferably to see the sky, and then determine their location before proceeding.

However, as the two approached the breach, they became wary. Jing Lin's mask shifted, revealing his eyes, so he could activate his ability at any time.

Li Yelai then drew out the Black Gold Dragon Pattern Halberd from the Well of Souls.

Because they discovered that the submarine and the ship's cabin had strangely merged together, with some kind of vein-like network covering the point where the two met, piecing them together.

"Flesh and blood have grown out of the cabin." Li Yelai's heart stirred slightly; Chu He had indeed mentioned this phenomenon.

Some of the ship hulls have come to life and may attack any creatures that approach, as there are warships inside the Dead Sea wreckage!

Chu River was once attacked by the ship's hull.

The two exchanged a glance and cautiously approached each other.

As they entered the breach, they saw the pulsating red light and the bizarre, mutated flesh and blood.

Those mutants have humanoid bodies with sarcomas and twisted muscles, but their skin is almost transparent, and their blood vessels and internal organs can be faintly seen.

Their deformed bodies were connected to the blood vessels inside the cabin, and each of them had a heart that emitted a faint red glow.

And all these hearts were beating slowly at the same frequency, as if they were their own heartbeats.

They seemed to have fallen into some kind of slumber, and did not wake up even though the two were less than thirty meters away from them.

However, there seemed to be a red light flickering faster in the distance, and it was moving slowly.

"Did you talk to Chu He afterward? Do you know anything about this kind of thing?" Li Yelai said in a low voice. With their physical strength and the intensity of their five senses, they didn't need to make a lot of noise.

“Yes, when you were breaking through, I asked him for a lot of strategies. This should be one of the parasitic creatures that Chu He mentioned.” Jing Lin said in a low voice, “It is speculated that it was formed from former crew members and sailors who were corrupted and twisted by the power on the ship’s hull.”

"These creatures are usually silent to conserve energy. But they will wake up immediately if they hear a loud noise. Once a fierce battle breaks out, the sounds of the battle and the fluctuations of psionic energy will awaken more of the host creatures, and the more they fight, the more they multiply. Eventually, they will be caught in an endless siege."

"According to Chu He, the Ark voters who teamed up with him were entangled in this and had to give up the challenge. Unless they are promoted again, they will not have another chance to challenge."

"Did he say how to deal with it?" Li Yelai asked in a low voice.

“Sneak over and backstab them one by one with minimal movement!” Jing Lin replied. “But be careful, if two are too close together, if one dies, the other will also be awakened.”

"That means if there are two that are very close together, we both have to attack at the same time," Li Yelai asked. "If there are more of them together, we also have to eliminate them as quickly as possible."

“That makes sense, but it’s a pity that neither of us are master assassins of the Netherworld Path. Otherwise, I would have drawn a few tally marks on their legs before we left!” Jing Lin complained. “We didn’t have to be so careful.”

Indeed, if it were the Little Mad King who had inscribed "Loyalty to the Country" on them, from "The Beacon Fire Rises" all the way to "Congratulations from All Directions," they probably wouldn't even notice.

The Dead Sea ruins are actually the domain of the Netherworld Path, where skilled stealth masters can venture deep into the depths without disturbing any creatures.

Unfortunately, neither of them possesses the ability. One is a myriad of phenomena, the other a spiritual eye. If one had to choose, Li Yelai also has the ability of the Netherworld Path.

But Shadow Army is clearly a summoning-enhanced class, and doesn't have any hidden effects.

Perhaps it was because neither of them were on the path of the underworld that the captain sent them to this place.

“Alright, let’s clear it over. That way, they won’t be able to cover up any further noise,” Li Yelai said.

“Remember, one strike is all it takes. Once they awaken, their psionic barrier will become much thicker,” Jing Lin said, a long spear appearing in his hand.

It is clearly a psionic weapon.

The two turned off their handheld searchlights and, relying on the faint red light emanating from the monsters, quietly approached the two outermost ones.

The two mutants were very close, less than two meters apart.

As he drew closer, Li Yelai could see their blood vessels and internal organs, as well as their distorted but still vaguely discernible human features.

They appear to be of white race. It's unclear whether their appearance was distorted after death or after surviving a shipwreck. If it's the latter, it's truly tragic.
Li Yelai and Jing Lin approached quietly, and Li Yelai held up three fingers.

Jing Lin nodded slightly.

Then, Li Yelai lowered his fingers one by one, and the moment he lowered the third finger...

The two attacked almost simultaneously, thrusting out with their spears and slashing down with their halberds.

It directly destroyed the deformed creature's head.

The two mutants trembled for a moment, then collapsed and died instantly. The red light on their chests also went out immediately.

This relieved the two men, who were both prepared to finish them off. If destroying the head didn't kill them, they would destroy the heart!

Fortunately, these aberrations aren't that monstrous. The strength of their psionic barrier is only around the second awakening level. One-shotting them isn't difficult.

After their first successful collaboration, the two looked at each other, nodded, and continued on their way.

Begin clearing out all the aberrations here.

After seven rounds of this process, all the aberrations in the area were eliminated.

The two continued to move forward.

The next second, Jing Lin suddenly thrust his spear forward, blocking Li Yelai's path.

Li Yelai looked at Jing Lin strangely, but Jing Lin pointed to the ground in front of him.

On the ground was a round metal disc. In the dim light, it was completely inconspicuous.

If Jing Lin hadn't possessed the Spirit Eye Path, granting him even sharper vision, he might not have been able to detect it.

“It’s a landmine!” Jing Lin said in a low voice. “It seems that there were still survivors who put up a resistance back then.”

"Yes, I really hope they have good luck, but it's tough on us." Li Yelai carefully dodged the landmines.

This weapon posed no danger to him.

The psychic barrier formed by the five senses is sufficient to block most firearms.

However, once the landmine is triggered, it will attract all the nearby aberrations!

“No, this mine.” Jing Lin bent down to examine the landmine, his eyes flashing slightly, clearly indicating that he had activated some kind of ability. This caused a slight change in his tone: “It was installed no more than thirty years ago.”

A thought struck Li Yelai: Did that mean that forty years after the catastrophe, humans were still active on the wrecked ship? (End of Chapter)
