Chapter 63 My Little Nest (Please continue reading)

Wu Yuchen rushed home and took the unopened letter from his father.

"Chenchen, what happened? When the postman came, I thought he had delivered it to the wrong address!"

Wu Yuchen quickly glanced through the invitation letter and a document resembling competition instructions in the email. After confirming that everything was correct, he couldn't suppress a smile as he replied to Wu Jianping:

"Dad, that's right. This is an invitation from the Berlin Film Festival!"

"You? The Berlin Film Festival?!"

Wu Jianping was stunned. As a staff member working in a publishing house, he had naturally heard of the reputation of the three major European publishing houses.

This is one of the world's three major film festivals; in China, only renowned directors like Xie Fei and Zhang Yimou can attend. He couldn't believe his son had suddenly received an invitation from the Berlin Film Festival!
Wu Yuchen explained to his father:

"My short film, 'Car 44,' was shortlisted for the short film section of the Berlin Film Festival."

Wu Yuchen then grabbed the letter in his hand and walked out:

"Dad, I'm not talking to you anymore, I need to find a phone that can make international calls!"

Also, I'm not coming back tonight!

Wu Jianping wanted to ask a few more questions, but his son had already dashed out. He thought to himself, "How come my son has become so capable since starting university?"

Short films, novels he's been asked to write, and recently he's even been working on a feature film. Now, he's suddenly been invited to the Berlin Film Festival. All of this makes Wu Jianping feel a sense of unreality and disorientation.

A thought popped into Wu Jianping's mind: maybe his novel "Bright Sword," which he had already finished writing, could actually become a bestseller?

Wu Yuchen found a place where he could make international calls. Although it was expensive, he didn't care about the cost at this point.

The time difference between Beijing and Berlin is 6 hours. It's just the start of the workday in Berlin, and the phone rang twice before someone answered.

Wu Yuchen was glad that his English listening and speaking skills were pretty good, and he immediately started communicating with the other party.

After hanging up the phone a while later, he had gotten the information he wanted. He could arrive in Berlin three days early and stay until the end of the film festival, with all accommodation and travel expenses covered. After all, many small-time directors from impoverished areas might be too poor to even afford travel expenses.

Of course, they won't provide first class or luxury hotels; those are only for those who have won the Gold Bear or Silver Bear in the main competition. And for this short film, "Car 44," they'll only reimburse you for two people at most; anything more is your own responsibility.

Wu Yuchen smiled, "Two people are enough!"

At the Jingying Film Studio, downstairs in the girls' dormitory, Jiang Qinqin saw Wu Yuchen and was pulled away by him. She thought Wu Yuchen was going to take her to a hotel, and she felt extremely shy.

Unexpectedly, Wu Yuchen pulled her to a public phone, pulled a letter from his pocket, slapped it into her hand, and said boldly:

"Call your dad and tell him you're not coming home for Chinese New Year!"

"what?!"

"I'll take you to Berlin for the New Year!"

The Berlin Film Festival opens on February 15th and lasts for ten days, while this year's Lunar New Year falls on February 16th. Therefore, attending the Berlin Film Festival means spending the Lunar New Year there. Jiang Qinqin initially didn't understand, then looked at Wu Yuchen in disbelief. Only after he showed her the invitation and explained it to her did she scream and excitedly throw herself into his arms.

This is the Berlin Film Festival!
In Jiang Qinqin's mind, this is one of the highest halls of cinematic art!
……

Snowflakes drifted down onto Jiang Qinqin's hair, but she ignored them, and simply linked arms with Wu Yuchen, following him as they walked through the winding alleyways.

Both of them knew perfectly well why Wu Yuchen had brought her out today. She had thought they were going to a hotel, but instead, Wu Yuchen led her to the entrance of a small, dilapidated courtyard in an alley.

Jiang Qinqin then followed Wu Yuchen into the courtyard and arrived at the door of a small house. It looked quite dilapidated from the outside, but after pushing open the door, she found that the interior was very well furnished. The quilts and bedding were all bright red, and the house was fully equipped with electric heating and other amenities.

This is the room where Xiao Ma lived in the movie "We Two".

Wu Yuchen smiled and explained to Jiang Qinqin:
"This is the little courtyard where our movie was filmed. I rented it for six months. I told my parents I was busy filming and would be staying here for the next few days, so it wasn't exactly lying to them. This was our little nest before I went abroad, what do you think?"

Upon hearing this, Jiang Qinqin showed a look of surprise and delight. She released Wu Yuchen and carefully looked around the room. Red lanterns hung at the door, and couplets were pasted on both sides. A large red poster was also pasted behind the door. The walls of the room were also covered with red paper. The whole room was warm and festive, like a wedding room.

She walked to the bedside and sat down, touching the mandarin duck pattern embroidered on the bright red quilt with her hand, and waves of deep affection rose from her heart.

This was clearly more meaningful than just finding any hotel, and Jiang Qinqin was deeply moved by Wu Yuchen's thoughtfulness.

Wu Yuchen smiled. This was exactly what Xiao Ma's room looked like in the movie, all red symbolizing her fiery personality. But now it was perfect for him to live in. To be honest, the little room was quite comfortable.

Night fell, and there was no wind outside the cabin, but the snow was falling softly. Inside, the small space of about five or six square meters was already warmed by the electric heater and the enthusiasm of the two young people.

The two were lying in bed. Jiang Qinqin nervously gripped the corner of the blanket with both hands. The old-fashioned incandescent light bulb hanging above emitted an orange light, which shone on Jiang Qinqin's fair face, making her look even more charming with a hint of red.

Wu Yuchen stroked her long, fair neck and delicate face, brushed aside the bangs on the forehead of the beauty beneath him, and whispered softly in her ear:

"Qinqin~"

"Kiss~"

"My dear senior sister~"

"I am coming!"

The dark shadow on the wall had condensed into a single mass.

The light bulb's cord went around the bed. From outside the room, the light, which had been steady just moments before, began to sway. The snowflakes that had accumulated in the yard were tinged with a pale red by the light, as if they were tinged with layers of shyness. It was unclear how long it took for the red light to fade.

The next day, Wu Yuchen groggily opened his eyes and glanced out the window. Snowflakes were still falling, so it seemed that the heavy snow was going to last quite a while.

There was an electric heater on in the room, so he didn't feel cold in bed, especially with the soft warmth in his arms. Young people have a lot of energy.

Wu Yuchen gently squeezed Jiang Qinqin in his arms. Seeing that she was still fast asleep and obviously exhausted, he did not disturb her. He just smiled and said that the joy he felt was indescribable to outsiders.

He plans to buy this courtyard once he has some spare money. It's not so much for investment, but because he feels it has a different meaning.

When Wu Yuchen thought about money, he thought about the upcoming trip to Berlin. It all depended on this trip!
