Chapter 54 Three Scripts
Wu Yuchen pondered for a moment and came up with two movies, both set in a courtyard. One could be made for under 100 million, and the other for under 50.

Having made up his mind, Wu Yuchen quickened his pace back, intending to finish the scripts for the three films as soon as possible. He was prepared to go if he could actually connect with the movie channel.

A little over a week later, Wu Yuchen was overjoyed to receive a call from Grandma Ruan. The next day, he took the three scripts he had worked on day and night and headed to the agreed location.

These three scripts he wrote are certainly not as refined as "Car 44" because of time constraints, but they are still good enough for people to read.

As Wu Yuchen approached, he saw Grandma Ruan standing at the gate of the courtyard from afar, and he immediately jogged over to her.

"Teacher Ruan, it's so cold outside, you can wait for me inside. I'd feel really bad if you got cold!"

"Hehe, I just arrived too, just standing outside for some fresh air. Come on, let's go in together." The old lady smiled and led Wu Yuchen into the movie channel's office building, which wasn't very big, only six or seven stories high, located in a small courtyard, and wasn't particularly eye-catching.

Arriving at the door of an office, which was ajar, Mrs. Ruan gently knocked. The middle-aged man sitting behind the desk looked up, immediately stood up, and greeted her with a smile.
"Oh, Mr. Ruan, you've arrived so early! I haven't even had time to call someone downstairs to greet you yet!"

"Hey, why bother answering? I'm perfectly healthy. Besides, I've retired, so don't call me by my old name anymore." The old lady waved her hand with a smile.

"I've been calling you that for so long, it's hard to change!" the middle-aged man said with a smile.

The old lady then introduced him, saying, "This is the Xiao Wu I told you about."

She then turned to Wu Yuchen and said, "This is Director Gu from our movie channel."

"Hello, Director Gu!" Wu Yuchen immediately greeted him.

Director Gu nodded and said with a smile, "Hello, Xiao Wu, I've seen your 'Car 44.' It's really well-made, and the camera work and color are all excellent. You have a bright future!"

Wu Yuchen immediately replied, "I don't deserve it! I still need to practice more."

Director Gu laughed heartily, then led the two to sit down. After having someone pour tea for both Old Madam Ruan and Wu Yuchen, Director Gu said:

"Xiao Wu, we're investing 200 million yuan in this film production. On one hand, it's to expand our film library, and on the other hand, it's to support the development of our domestic films."

You certainly have a lot of potential. But I have to ask you first, if you were to direct a feature film, would you continue to work on similar themes as before?

Wu Yuchen explained with a smile:
"Director Gu, actually, the previous film 'Car 44' was experimental in nature. If we're really making a feature film, I definitely won't cross the line!"

Then he took out the three scripts that had been prepared:

"Director Gu, I actually have three scripts prepared here. If you don't mind the trouble, you can take a look at them first."

Director Gu and Old Mrs. Ruan both looked surprised upon seeing this. Then he smiled and said to Old Mrs. Ruan:
"You were right when you told me he was talented; he pulled out three scripts right off the bat!"

"Hey, he said he was prepared. I thought it was just one movie, but I didn't expect him to come up with three!" Grandma Ruan replied in surprise.

谷主任看着三本封面上写着的数字,不由问道:“你这100、50、15分别是什么意思?”“这是我预估的成本,分别是100万,50万和15万。”

"Wow! You're really well prepared!"

At this moment, Director Gu also felt much more favorably disposed towards Wu Yuchen, after all, his dedication and work attitude were beyond reproach, far surpassing those of others.

Director Gu picked up the book that cost 100 million yuan, with a name written on the cover: "Mr. Donkey".

The film "Mr. Donkey" was actually filmed in the form of a stage play, and the scenes were all concentrated in one courtyard. Wu Yuchen personally estimated that in 95, when actors' salaries were still very low, it should have been possible to make the film even with 80 yuan.

This is also the thickest of his three screenplays. It's a dark comedy and absurdist comedy that shows all kinds of people and is full of satire. Artistically speaking, the story is excellent and could win awards if it's well-made and submitted to film festivals.

The old lady then picked up the 15 yuan book, which was "The Night the Comet Came".

Director Gu and the old lady were both reading carefully. After a while, the old lady put down the script in her hand, rubbed her temples, and asked, "Xiao Wu, I don't quite understand this script you wrote."

"The Night of the Comet" is known for its mind-bending plot, especially since people born in 95 haven't been exposed to various science fiction settings and theories.

Wu Yuchen then explained to the old lady what parallel universes are, what Schrödinger's cat is, the box theory, and so on.

The old lady listened for a while before she vaguely understood, then sighed:
"This is too new! Maybe it's because I'm too old and haven't been exposed to such new things before."

"No, Ms. Ruan, you're still young. Maybe I didn't write the script in enough detail," Wu Yuchen comforted her.

The reason I brought up "Coherence" is because it's relatively new. This film only won some minor awards in 2013, but if it were released now, it would definitely cause a sensation at science fiction film festivals.

At this moment, Director Gu also finished reading "Mr. Donkey" in his hand, and then sighed:
"What a great script! It's full of humor, satire, and depicts the myriad aspects of human nature. Beneath the absurd comedy lies a profound sadness."

Wu Yuchen was delighted to hear this, while the old lady showed an interested expression.

Director Gu handed the script of "Mr. Donkey" to the old lady: "Take a look at it too."

He then picked up the book "The Night the Comet Came," which the old lady had put down. Director Gu had just overheard Wu Yuchen's explanations about parallel universes, so he read it much faster.

After he put it down, he gave Wu Yuchen a thumbs up and said:
"Xiao Wu, I really admire your brain!"
However, as Ruan Tai just mentioned, it's too new; the audience won't understand it.

After hearing this, Wu Yuchen sighed inwardly. It seemed that "The Night the Comet Came" had been rejected. However, putting himself in their shoes, as a movie channel, they certainly wanted to produce content that the general public could understand, rather than pursuing novel sci-fi settings to show off.

Seeing that the old lady was still engrossed in reading "Mr. Donkey," Director Gu didn't disturb her and picked up the book marked with 50.

He glanced at the cover and saw the title: "The Two of Us".
