Chapter 162 The Bright Green Leaves

Chapter 162 The Bright Green Leaves
In "My Sassy Girl", the subway station is a very important setting, and many scenes take place here.

The arrangements at the Shanghai subway station had already been made. Wu Yuchen is already quite famous, and with the help of the local Shanghai Film Group, a special carriage was allocated for the film crew to shoot.

Upon learning that Wu Yuchen was filming "My Sassy Girl" on the subway, many people gathered around. Wu Yuchen then selected some of these enthusiastic passengers to act as background figures for the subway passengers.

The first scene filmed was the opening sequence where the male and female leads bumped into each other on the subway. After the female lead helped the old man get a seat, she then vomited all over his head.

The film crew occupied a carriage at the end of the subway. While the photographers and staff were looking for angles and setting up camera positions, Wu Yuchen was communicating with the actor playing the old man in front of him.

"Teacher Guo Da, please bear with me later. This may look a bit disgusting, but it's just fresh porridge and some other food mixed together. It definitely doesn't taste weird!"

That's right, the actor playing the old man is the famous comedian Guo Da. Although Guo Da is known for his sketch comedy roles, he's actually a graduate of the Shanghai Theatre Academy's class of '74. Not only is he a good actor, well-suited for comedy, but Guo Da himself is balding, perfectly fitting the role's requirements.

Guo Da accepted Wu Yuchen's invitation without hesitation and came immediately. He waved his hand with a smile:
"Haha, Director Wu, this is nothing. The conditions for acting in the past were much harsher than they are now!"

Wu Yuchen smiled and nodded at Guo Da's attitude. Although it was fine if he didn't say anything, Guo Da had come all the way here to play a suffering character, so it was only right to show some concern.

The filming started with shots of Xu Zheng and a group of passengers sneaking glances at the beautiful Wang Zuxian, showing them swaying and drunk. These were easy enough to film in two or three takes. Then came the main event.

"3, 2, 1, action!"

Wang Zuxian reached out and brushed aside the hair covering her eyes, revealing a beautiful and charming face in the shot. Unfortunately, she looked drunk and her eyes were somewhat glazed as she turned her head to look at the old man standing next to her.

Guo Da was dressed impeccably, looking every bit the sophisticated old gentleman from Shanghai. He glanced at Wang Zuxian out of the corner of his eye, frowned, and then turned his face away, smelling a strong odor of alcohol.

Then he looked down at Tong Dawei, who was sitting with his head down, and coughed lightly, but Tong Dawei didn't move. He didn't even raise his head, just chewed his gum and did whatever he wanted.

At this moment, Tong Dawei was dressed quite flamboyantly, with blond hair and a pink T-shirt, completely embodying the early "emo" style, making him look like a rebellious youth at first glance. Guo Da sighed helplessly upon seeing this.

The camera pans to Wang Zuxian, who brushes her hair back, furrows her brow, and with a fierce expression shouts at Tong Dawei:
"Hey, stand up! Give your seat to the elderly!"

Tong Dawei slowly raised his head, chewing his gum as he looked at Wang Zuxian, who was glaring at him. Then he blew a bubble with his gum, deliberately trying to provoke him. Unfortunately, perhaps due to nervousness, he spat the gum out.

"Crack!"

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry!" Tong Dawei quickly put his hands together in apology.

"It's okay, do it again. When you chew the gum next time, make a bigger movement with your cheeks and show your disdain with your eyes."

The crew had just started filming, and Wu Yuchen didn't mind, so he had someone bring him another piece of chewing gum.

After starting again, Tong Dawei slowly raised his head, blew a bubble at Wang Zuxian, then gave a disdainful smile, slowly lowered his head, smacked his lips, and continued chewing his gum.

Just then, Wang Zuxian slapped Tong Dawei hard on the back of the head. The sound of the slap made him stagger forward, and the chewing gum in his mouth fell onto his pants.

Tong Dawei took the chewing gum out of his pants and put it back in his mouth, then looked up and glared angrily at Wang Zuxian.

The camera pans up to Wang Zuxian standing to the side, where she shows no fear whatsoever. Her eyes widen as she glares back, then she puffs out her cheeks, looking down at him with an even fiercer expression.

"You brat, get up! Don't you know how to respect your elders and care for the young?!"

Tong Dawei looked the obviously drunk and unruly woman up and down, chewing gum with a defiant expression.

But looking around, he found all the passengers staring at him. He pursed his lips, then let out a long, helpless sigh, as if to say that a good man doesn't argue with a woman. He picked up his bag, stood up, and silently cursed, "Damn it!"

He hunched over, leaned forward, stretched his neck, and chewed gum, walking like a petty hoodlum.

But before he could take two steps, the savage woman behind him spoke again: "Hey!"

Tong Dawei turned his head and looked at Wang Zuxian with a crooked mouth.

Wang Zuxian stretched out her index finger and gestured up and down at him, as if giving an order, and said in a domineering tone, "From now on, don't wear pink clothes."

After saying that, he flicked his wrist and index finger, sending the man away with a swift motion, displaying his fierce and domineering nature.

Tong Dawei took another deep breath, held it in, and stopped talking. He turned around, lowered his head, rubbed the back of his head, and left, fully demonstrating what it means to be outwardly strong but inwardly weak.

Wang Zuxian slowly turned her head, her eyes, which had been wide open, slowly closed, and her drunken head leaned against the pillar again.

"Pass! Excellent!"

In the scene just now, the female lead, Song Mingxi, was drunk and domineering. However, even when she was drunk, she did not forget to respect the elderly and care for the young, making the young people give up their seats to the elderly. Her roughness had its own genuineness, which immediately brought the character to life.

This scene was naturally not filmed in just one or two takes. Wang Zuxian, Tong Dawei, and even the surrounding passengers had to do several takes, but the final result was still quite satisfactory.

Wu Yuchen asked the assistant director to give Tong Dawei an extra red envelope, since he had just been hit more than once, and Wang Zuxian hadn't held back for the sake of the scene. Although Tong Dawei had no lines and had been hit, he was still quite happy, knowing that this scene would at least give him more than a minute of screen time in "My Sassy Girl"!

Tong Dawei's scenes were over, and he stood watching from a distance. Next, it was Guo Da's turn to suffer.

"3, 2, 1, action!"

In a spot out of the camera's view above Guo Da's seat, near a subway crossbar, a crew member was seen lying on the ground, holding a plastic bottle. As the script supervisor clapped the clapperboard, the crew member aimed the bottle at Guo Da's head below and poured the food scraps from the bottle out.

With a soft splatter, crumbs resembling vomit landed on Guo Da's head. He shuddered, his arms involuntarily rising to his feet. His face first showed astonishment, then turned ugly, and he cried out, "Ah!"

The surrounding passengers gasped in shock, never expecting such a thing to happen. The burly girl who had just been helping the elderly man get a seat had vomited all over him!
Drops of juice kept sliding down his hair. Guo Da's face was full of disgust. His hands trembled as he reached for the sides of his hair, gritted his teeth, squeezed his eyes, and grabbed his hair while enduring the nausea. Then he slowly lifted it up.

It turned out that the old man was wearing a wig. Fortunately, it was a wig. Xu Zheng had a look of disgust on his face, but at the same time, he was relieved for the old man.

At this moment, Guo Da's hands were gripping the wig tightly, causing his arms to tremble, showing the disgust he was trying to suppress. He looked at the wig, which was covered in vomit, his lips trembled, and he made whimpering noises.

However, at that moment, Wang Zuxian spat out another clump, directly soiling Guo Da's bald head, which had been perfectly protected by the wig. The surrounding passengers gasped even louder.

Streams of rice porridge flowed down Guo Da's forehead, wetting his entire face. Nausea, pain, and disgust contorted his features, and his whole body trembled.

After vomiting, Wang Zuxian's expression relaxed, and she felt much better. She let out a long breath, then turned her head, her eyes still blurry with drunkenness, and reached out her hand to Xu Zheng, murmuring, "Darling..."

Then, with a "plop," she collapsed completely drunk on the ground.

All the passengers turned their gaze toward Xu Zheng as Wang Zuxian called out "Darling".

Xu Zheng was stunned, feeling completely bewildered. Then, without realizing it, he turned slightly to the side and casually smiled at those around him, explaining, "This, I didn't mean it."

But the surrounding passengers didn't see it that way, and they all said to him, "She called you 'darling'!"

Seeing that the passengers had misunderstood him, Xu Zheng's smile vanished, and his voice rose as he emphasized, "I really didn't!"

"Come here!" A sharp shout came from Guo Da, who had been vomited on.

"I, I, this..." Xu Zheng kept opening his mouth, wanting to explain again, but he found that everyone around him seemed to have assumed that he was the drunk girl's boyfriend. He had a bitter smile on his face and felt helpless.

"You still dare to laugh! Come here!" Guo Da said through gritted teeth, his voice rising eight octaves in excitement, like an old eunuch. The surrounding passengers wanted to laugh but dared not.

Later, when Xu Zheng used his own coat to wipe Guo Da's bald head and wig, and then carefully put the wig on him with a silly grin, Guo Da's disgusting and furious appearance contrasted sharply with his meticulous and refined image from before, creating a hilarious effect!

"Great! Quickly help Teacher Guo clean up!"

The staff quickly brought over a basin of water, and Wu Yuchen also took a bottle of mineral water to help clean Guo Da.

"Teacher Guo, you've really been put through a lot of trouble! This scene is very important, and it took so long to film it back and forth."

"Hey, it's nothing! This is what actors are supposed to do. It's nothing, no scrapes or injuries!" Guo Da replied with a smile.

The filming just now was naturally not completed in one take. Xu Zheng had to express disgust and reverie while also capturing his goofy demeanor, so it took many takes.

Throughout the entire process, Guo Da kept his head and body covered in dirt, demonstrating his dedication.

Although it wasn't real vomit and didn't smell bad, the spilled instant noodles were food scraps, and the white porridge was indeed vomited out of Wang Zuxian's mouth.

Fortunately, the scene where he was vomited on was completed in one take; otherwise, even the best actor would have struggled mentally if it had to be done multiple times. It must be said that actors of this era are incredibly dedicated to their craft. If this were twenty years from now, those young, popular actors would never do this; they would definitely use a stunt double.

After Wu Yuchen finished watching the playback, the assistant director came over and asked, "Director Wu, are we still filming today?"

Today's goal is to complete these two key events. Seeing that it was completely dark outside, Wu Yuchen thought for a moment and said:
"Let's go out for a meal first, and then everyone can work hard and film the night scene at the subway station under the cover of darkness."

The subway station isn't very convenient, and the carriages aren't always readily available, so we're trying to film all the subway scenes in the shortest possible time. Tomorrow we'll also be filming a funny scene where the male and female leads make a bet on the subway and flick each other's foreheads. Once that's done, we'll be pretty much done.

Besides the male and female leads, "My Sassy Girl" also features several minor but memorable supporting characters, including Guo Da's elderly gentleman. Since Wu Yuchen is filming in Shanghai this time, he's tried to use actors from Shanghai Film Studio or Shanghai Theatre Academy as much as possible.

For example, the character of the escaped convict is played by Liao Fan from the Shanghai Theatre Academy. He gets into an argument with someone while his girlfriend is eating, stabs him, and goes to jail. In his cell, he discovers that his girlfriend is having an affair with his best friend, so he escapes to kill the two who betrayed him. However, he is eventually redeemed by the female lead, Wang Zuxian. This is similar to the original story of the deserter being cuckolded. In reality, such a person would be dangerous, but in a comedy film, this character is also a comedic one.

Then there's the female lead Song Mingxi's alcoholic father, played by Li Youbin (played by Wu Yuchen); Song Mingxi's mother, played by Pan Hong; Qian Niu's mother, played by Xi Meijuan; and the comedic small hotel owner, played by You Benchang, known for his role as "Ji Gong" (a legendary Chinese monk). These actors are all from the Shanghai Theatre Academy, and while their roles are relatively small, essentially cameos, they are instantly recognizable to the audience.

These actors are truly veterans; their filming experience is incredibly rich, making the shoot very smooth, and they finished in half a day. It's only because Wu Yuchen has such a powerful connections that it would have been difficult to gather them all.

……

The filming of "My Sassy Girl" is proceeding smoothly, while local Shanghai media outlets occasionally report on the filming, such as being on the Line 1 subway today, arriving at Jiaotong University a few days later, and then going to an amusement park a week later.

While Wu Yuchen was filming, two unexpected people rushed towards the film set.

In a Xiali car that was even less desirable than a Mazda, "Zhou Chaoxian" sat in the back seat and asked the man next to him:
"Director Yu, we don't know them. Won't we just make a wasted trip?"

Yu Liwei said with a smile, "I heard from Jia Zhangke, my friend, that Wu Yuchen is very supportive of the film industry and has invested a lot of money in several films. Besides, we were just passing by and thought we'd take this opportunity to get some investment. If it's successful, our crew will be better off. Thirteenth Brother, you're not only the male lead but also a film investor, so be more proactive! And with you here, Wu Yuchen might just invest because of you!"

Yu Lik-wai was the cinematographer for "Xiao Wu" and could be considered Jia Zhangke's go-to director. However, he also has a dream of becoming a director, and this time he is shooting his first feature film, "Heaven and Earth".

The "Thirteenth Brother" he mentioned is none other than the versatile actor Liang Jiahui, who earned the nickname "Liang Thirteen" because he starred in thirteen films in one year.

After seeing the script for "Heaven and Earth," Leung Ka-fai became very interested. He not only agreed to play the male lead but also invested some money to become a producer. This time, he came to the mainland with Yu Lik-wai to select actors, since mainland actors have lower salaries and better acting skills, making them very suitable for art films.

Tony Leung shook his head: "He's an internationally renowned director who can do whatever he wants in Hollywood. I don't have that kind of face."

"Where there's a will, there's a way. It won't hurt to give it a try," Yu Liwei laughed.

……

Looking at Zhou Chaoxian in front of him, Wu Yuchen really wanted to ask whether he came in a Mercedes or a Mazda, considering that the movie "Black Gold" had only been released half a year ago.

"Director Wu, it's a pleasure to meet you!"

Wu Yuchen shook hands with the two men, saying, "Hello, Director Yu, hello, Mr. Liang!"

Liang Jiahui smiled and said, "Director Wu, you can just call me Tony."

He speaks Mandarin quite well, although he has a slight accent, it's already quite fluent.

Meanwhile, Wang Zuxian smiled and said to Liang Jiahui, "Wow, Tony, did you come to see me?"

"Xiao Xian, you're still so beautiful!" Liang Jiahui and Wang Zuxian are old acquaintances. They have worked together more than once and even played husband and wife in "A Better Tomorrow".

"Hey, judging from your expression, you're not here to see me~" Wang Zuxian joked with him.

Tony Leung laughed it off, and then he and Yu Lik-wai explained their purpose to Ng Yu-chen.

After listening, Wu Yuchen thought for a moment and said, "How about this, give me the script first, and I'll talk about it after I've read it. But right now, I have a role here, could Tony help me out with a cameo?"

Upon hearing this, Liang Jiahui exclaimed, "Director Wu, I'm completely unprepared. Is this inappropriate...?"

Liang Jiahui never expected that his efforts to attract investment would not only fail to yield results, but he would also become the target of attention.

"Haha, it's no problem, it's a very simple scene. With your skills, Tony, there won't be any problem! You can finish it in half an hour."

Wang Zuxian roughly guessed what role Wu Yuchen wanted him to play, and said, "Brother Tony, since you're already here, you can't leave without acting in a scene with me!"

Hearing what the two said, Liang Jiahui agreed: "Well... okay, Director Wu, what role will I play?"

Wu Yuchen chuckled and said, "Little Fairy's blind date is a successful man who makes the male protagonist feel inferior. When you go on the blind date later, you need to put on a mature and confident demeanor."

Leung Ka-fai, who came to our doorstep, was perfect to have. His age and appearance were just right, and he even had a slight Hong Kong accent. He introduced himself as a successful person who had returned from Hong Kong Island, which fits the current impression that people think of Hong Kong Islanders as wealthy people.

Upon hearing this, Liang Jiahui immediately understood what role he was to play and asked with a smile:

"So, did I, a wealthy man, succeed in my blind date?"

"Tony, what are you thinking? You're just a cameo actor, and you think you can successfully go on a blind date with me?" Wang Zuxian teased.

Liang Jiahui shrugged and said, "I'm rich, I'll flaunt my wealth!"

Upon hearing this, Wu Yuchen couldn't help but laugh and said, "Tony, this is a romance movie, not reality. Money can't beat true love!"

Liang Jiahui deliberately shook his head and sighed, "So, I'm just a stepping stone to highlight other people's love? This rich guy like me is really pathetic~"

Upon hearing this, everyone burst into laughter.
