Chapter 268 The Goal of the Wise

Upon seeing Lin An's attack, Kevin immediately covered a ring with his fingertip.

"Odous!"

A giant, spewing flames, emerged from the smoke. Its image reminded Lin An of the Zhenni he had seen at the headquarters of the St. Anilov Foundation, only more ethereal and with sharper eyes.

The enormous, smokeless flames bared their fangs and claws, and the tangible flames followed its gaze, planting scorching seeds on Lin An's skin. The burning pain traveled upwards, straight to his head.

"Forest ranger, is that you?"

Under the bright flames, Kevin saw Lin An's expressionless face. He frowned; the marks of the demonic inscription clearly told him that Lin An was still in the territory of the Lion Tribe.

The Red Dragon's mystical magic... has failed?

how can that be!

This is an entry he included. It originally belonged to Countess Van Hofwegen, but she deliberately downgraded it by distributing the translated version to cater to his rating. In fact, it was almost a mythical level of achievement!
Could it be that in a desolate and barren place where only okapis bar their teeth, a mythical figure suddenly appeared without warning?
Who exactly is he?!
No, perhaps he has some special way to resist it, just like that blind beggar...

More likely, they are actually in cahoots?

So far, Kevin has remained relatively calm, his thoughts racing as he gazes at Lin An, who is being consumed by the giant fire summoned by the Black Hen.

Chickens are nearsighted creatures, and when Kevin shared his field of vision with the little black hen, he couldn't see very clearly. He only mistakenly thought that Lin An was a Lion Kingdom person because he could communicate with fairies, through mystical magic.

Using the giant's flames to get close, Kevin saw the mixed-race face and couldn't help but mutter to himself in confusion.

"You are... a Tutsi from the Bantu? Then how do you know the arcane magic of Elran? Bukabuka! Kratubaladanikto!"

He was trying to pronounce the local language, but his words came out completely incoherent. Even the demon Barbatos, who was an expert in languages, shook his head and couldn't translate them for Lin An.

It's probably something like, "Who are you? Tell me the truth!"

I've gotten quite tanned lately, and people have mistaken me for someone from the Southern Continent. Lin An thought to himself, "That's fine too; the Flanders' arrogant face blindness can conveniently conceal my true identity."

"Sasaka, Ahula! Answer me, you bastard!"

Kevin was still speaking incoherently in his broken, incomprehensible dialect when Lin An, taking a deep breath, roared out a sentence in perfect Dutch.

Hallelujah! Fire!

As soon as he finished speaking, a thought flashed through his mind.

"System, use 'The Complete Book of Magic, Volume One,' [Blessing of the Primal Avatar]!"

A phantom of bronze war armor rose from the flames, and the aura of the ancient Canaanite goddess descended suddenly. The phantom of the giant behind Kevin froze for a few seconds, and the frequency of its fire-breathing became disordered.

"Give me the blessing of power!"

Lin An chose the simplest and most direct of the three blessings, clenched his five fingers, and a cheetah-like explosive power and insight spread through his soul to his limbs and bones, making his bones crack and pop.

The giant fire that had been clinging to his skin was extinguished in an instant. Only his clothes were burned with a few holes, but his skin was completely unharmed and left without any scars.

Astaroth, Astaroth, Asherah.

The closer the pronunciation is to ancient Canaanite, the closer its image and perception are to the first goddess of the Jordan River, the wife of the chief god El and the demon Baal, the mother of childbirth and the moon, and the deity who wields primordial power.

The golden light on the outside of the magic lamp dimmed, and the giant spirit suddenly became timid and hesitant, even the light illuminating the rainforest was no longer bright.

Upon seeing this, Kevin's expression changed drastically.

"Damn it, who are you? How do you possess such immense power—from a mysterious source in the Arabian region—are you a member of [Xiyong] or [Yicileye]?"

As a member of a prestigious family, he knew that a high-ranking mystery like Lin An could not possibly be completely unrelated to those well-known organizations.

Even if an ordinary person were to have a stroke of luck and acquire an antique, awakening a mysterious power, they could easily die quickly due to a surge in pollution levels, as the radiation level would not reach such a high level.

Lin An narrowed his eyes and said ambiguously.

"So what if I'm a Lamech? Or an Enochian?"

"President of the Red Poppy Merchant Guild, my great uncle has already partnered with [One-Skill Industry]! If you are an Enochist, there's no need for us to fight here; if you are a Laméist... in any case, tell me! What are your intentions?"

While they were talking, Kevin pressed his finger on the "teleportation" ring, trying to escape while Lin An was distracted.

The intricate symbol of the six-pointed star tore through space, and the shape of a large red dragon flickered and rolled.

"I was going to say something, but unfortunately you don't seem to listen to reason, Brother Chicken," Lin An said calmly.

Upon discovering that his escape plan had been exposed, Kevin sneered, chanting a spell as he commanded the trembling giant to charge towards Lin An, buying himself some time.

If Lin An hadn't known that the ring's effect was "one-click return to town," Kevin might have really escaped.

At this moment, he was paying close attention to the specific ring and, with prior preparation, activated the "One Eye of God" placed behind Kevin. The wrinkled, striped, seven-colored patterns radiated outwards, and the light seemed to come from the outermost layer of the nine heavens, causing Kevin's thoughts to freeze and his movements to stop.

The drawing of the incantation and patterns was interrupted. Not only did the outline of the red dragon gradually become illusory and eventually disappear, but Kevin himself also fell into a brief daze.

As a "seeker of knowledge," he cannot use one item while simultaneously driving another.

The same method the devil had used to scheme against Lin An was used on Kevin in the same way. By the time Kevin regained control and realized what was happening, Lin An was already within reach.

Because of the close proximity, Kevin immediately chose to defend himself, taking out the exquisite [Agra Angel Amulet], unaware that this would undoubtedly hasten his defeat.

The goddess of war's blessing surrounded Lin An. He lunged at Kevin, grabbed his arm with his left hand and pulled him closer, then slammed his knee into Kevin's stomach.

"Woo!"

Kevin immediately heard the sound of bones breaking, followed by the warm sensation of internal organs being damaged, rolling in his abdomen like warm stones.

"Dangdang!"

Lin An ignored the Agra angel who emerged from the two circular halos accompanied by sweet singing, and shoved Kevin to the ground. Wet mud splashed everywhere, and Kevin's vision went black as the stench of sludge assaulted his nostrils.

When Lin An pulled Kevin back up, bubbles came out of his nostrils, his face was covered in mud and fear, and he opened his mouth slightly as if he wanted to say something.

"you dare--"

"Boom! Boom! Boom!"

Lin An didn't give him a chance, repeatedly slamming his head against the ground. Countless times, a streak of scarlet blood mixed with mud spread out in a spiderweb pattern.

"Hehe...hehe..."

He let out a weak, hoarse gasp, laced with vicious curses, and Lin An's gaze shifted to the Agra angel, whose expression changed from calm to fury in seconds. It raised its sharp shield, and the shadow of the guillotine loomed over Lin An's head.

The white clouds surrounding the angel cast a soft, bright light, and thousands of humanoid phantoms flashed by and disappeared. Lin An stared intently at the fleeting illusion and came to a general conclusion in his mind.

Among the thousand people, only a dozen or so had clearly defined features. They did not join the chorus, but stood there with indifferent expressions, as if they were witnessing something.

Only a few people opened their mouths and sang sacred hymns; one of them, with long hair, was a woman.

Other figures were blurry and their pronunciation was unclear; some were singing harmonic scales in a "woo-woo" manner, while others stood with their hands hanging down on the periphery; behind them were even blurrier figures.

The woman was probably Countess Van Hofwegen. As for the others, they were either subordinates of the Red Poppy Merchant Guild or members of other noble families.

As for the more indistinct figures, they were ordinary people who had heard of the Red Poppy Merchant Guild. They seemed to admire them greatly, exuding a positive, gentle, and warm atmosphere.

This explains why the Red Poppy Merchant Guild is generally seen as a kind and positive entity by most ordinary people. No wonder they, as a powerful family, sent people to hunt down Edward Roberts to prevent him from spreading the news of the factory explosion and the release of uranium water to the West.

Having obtained information about the operation of the "Lady with the Lamp," Lin An snatched the amulet from Kevin's finger.

"System, use the [gesture for communicating with God]."

The two energies transformed into clasped hands. As they overlapped, a pale red mist emerged, enveloping Lin An's body and making him feel as light as if he were floating on a cloud.

The material and the spiritual are separated, and Lin An, through the shield of the Agra amulet, directly communicated with the "Lady with the Lamp".

The stars twinkled, and rainbows filled the sky. Lin An entered a fantastical world, where he saw that face he had met a few times before.

The face initially resembled his, but with each breath, the position of his features subtly changed, sometimes smiling, sometimes distressed.

For four thousand years, the Duke has continuously divided Ansius's spirit, creating all sorts of vessels. From birth to death, they have accumulated countless memories and experiences, which disappear with the passage of time, yet remain deeply embedded in fragments of time, difficult to completely erase.

They are the embodiment of all spirits, so Lin An simultaneously has the urge to kiss it, caress it, and flee from it and get rid of it.

Gazing at this mirror-like portrait of humanity, Lin An felt an indescribable heaviness and sorrow for some reason, and couldn't help but sigh softly.

"By observing the [Sage's Target], the radiation value of the [Mystic Encyclopedia] has increased by 1%, and your resonance and understanding of the [Astrological Sage] has attracted the medium 'Lady with the Lamp' x1."

"Due to the radiation from the 'Lady with the Lamp,' your pollution level has increased by 0%."

"Did the system change its name because my understanding has improved?" Lin An raised an eyebrow.

A wise man...?
Is this the name of an "artificial being" that split off from Ansius, just like me?

Quickly snapping out of his reverie, Lin An looked at the Agra angel before him. Its song had become sweet and harmless once more, and its shield, though still sharp, was no longer surrounded by humanoid phantoms.

Lin An simply waved his arm, and Asherah's power shattered the symbol of Aggra, turning it into countless shimmering fragments that flew into the depths of the forest along with the fireflies.

Even though he was beaten to the point of near death, Kevin was still shocked by what he saw. He couldn't even care about the pain in his body, and his mind was filled with disbelief.

Why did my uncle's divine power lose its effect like this?

Just who is this person?!
He's going crazy!

With his last glimmer of hope gone and feeling Lin An's gaze, Kevin's face turned ashen, and he spoke haltingly.

"You dare kill me... My family has a long history... Over eight hundred years of accumulation..."

"Even if you practice for two and a half years, it won't work."

Lin An was too lazy to waste words.

Initially, he did consider negotiating with the Red Poppy Merchant Guild, but ever since he saved Edward Roberts, the conflict between the two had become irreconcilable.

Previously, Lin An was too lazy to care about anything other than occult knowledge, but now he has sensed a sense of responsibility as a leader, or rather, a protector.

After all, he was no longer all alone.

Kevin was not like the "wild" mysterious figures he had encountered before. As a member of a powerful family, he had many methods. Even though Lin An had many problems, he dared not let him live for more than a few seconds and suddenly exerted force with both hands.

With a "crack," Kevin's eyes widened, and he died with resentment in his heart.

"The entry 'Aladdin's Lamp II: The Black Hen' has been added. You have obtained the media 'Seeker' x7, 'Prophet' x4, 'God of Truth' x3, 'Mother of Desire' x3, and 'Lord of Dreams' x2."

"By using mystical arts, the radiation value of the [Mystic Encyclopedia] has increased by 0.2%."

A few minutes later, Lin An was extremely relieved that he hadn't dragged things out.

Because the next moment, along with the system notification, a crisp notification sound rang out.

"Ding!"

A familiar sound echoed through the silent rainforest, and Lin An was slightly taken aback.

"Brother Tong, are you having another meltdown?"

Transforming into Asherah would continuously increase the level of pollution, and the more power was used, the faster the increase would be, so Lin An usually didn't use it much.

In just one battle, the system's contamination level instantly soared to 20%.

"Sorry, this encyclopedia does not currently include this content. I guess you want to ask, 'Lin Hainan, what's gotten into you now?'" the system replied with dry humor.

"..."

I'm not that kind of fatherly love and filial piety!

Even though the system that has lost the Duke's memories may truly only consist of my subconscious...

Ignoring the system's strange words, Lin An searched for the source of the sound and found a small, exquisitely constructed silver device emitting a pale white light.

It turns out that even as Kevin was dying, he hadn't given up on turning the tables.

He dialed his personal communication device, wanting to let the Countess know about his crisis.

Lin An stared at the silver device, his brows furrowing slightly.

Speaking of which, why does this thing look so much like the "broadcasting machine" my father used to contact me?
After ringing a few times, the device automatically connected without any user intervention, and a gentle and loving female voice rang out.

"Good evening, my dear Kevin. How is your first day in the rainforest?" (End of Chapter)
