Chapter 153 Lord Arthur
Chapter 153 Lord Arthur
The St. Anilov Foundation headquarters, in the "Understanding" area.
In a lavish office, Lin An and Simon sat on a sofa near the monitor.
X was once connected to the core of this screen, playing surveillance footage of the entire foundation. Now, times have changed, and the machine has been modified.
Several engineers typed on their keyboards, making a "clack-clack" sound.
On the other side of the room was a huge desk that looked to weigh several hundred kilograms.
Lord Arthur had scheduled a meeting with them for 3 p.m., and Lin An and Simon were currently reading a new attachment they had received in their email.
"Clap."
The door was opened, and the two stood up from the sofa. A secretary, dressed impeccably and wearing gold-rimmed glasses, pushed the door open and entered, followed by a middle-aged man.
"Please allow me to introduce you to Lord Arthur Williams, the 'leader' or rather the 'regent' of the Dawn Society, the representative of the Eagle Nation Superpower Association, the head of the Foundation's new inspection team, and also the acting president's temporary representative."
The secretary spoke in fluent British English.
“Hello, Lord Williams,” Simon greeted.
“Not Williams, it’s Arthur Williams; my name is John.” The lord shook hands with him. “Thank you for participating in this meeting, Simon Lloyd and Lin from Dietrich.”
Lin An considered several possible prototypes in his mind, but the system didn't react at all, and he couldn't see any obvious changes in Lord Arthur with the naked eye, so he had to give up.
"Gentlemen, please have a seat." Lord Arthur winked. "This is not the Standing Committee."
His lame joke left the two of them speechless, but fortunately someone pushed in a cart of tea and snacks, breaking the awkward atmosphere.
Lord Arthur picked up the teapot, poured black tea into a bone china cup, and sweet steam rose up. Then he added chilled milk and stirred it with a small gold spoon.
"At the tea table in the Lion Kingdom, one's social status can be discerned from the order in which milk and tea are added. Adding milk first, then tea, signifies rudeness and poverty; conversely, pouring tea into the cup first, then adding milk, demonstrates aristocratic refinement."
"I want to drink coffee," Lin An said.
"Come, come, for Her Majesty's health!"
Seeing Lord Arthur's leisurely and carefree appearance, Lin An felt an urge to pour a cup of red tea upside down on his head.
Dawn Association, you lazy bum organization!
I thought you guys were so capable, but it turns out you were just slacking off the whole time during the showdown with the inspection team, you didn't stop at all!
Simon was not good at dealing with Lord Arthur, and the conversation paused naturally, giving Lin An the opportunity to speak.
"Lord Arthur, you've gathered us here for more than just afternoon tea."
“Oh, you’re right!” The Lord gestured to his secretary. “Your team has made outstanding contributions to the mission of transporting the Thunderbirds, and the Dawn Society wishes to formally award you with honors. Regardless of the absence of the other two staff members, I will present the awards to you here first.”
The secretary opened a box containing a gleaming, beautiful cross medal, nestled in a rose-colored ribbon, so exquisite it was captivating.
"This medal is specially awarded to you, Mr. Lloyd, in recognition of your authoritative role in this mission and your dedication, leadership and commitment."
The lord pinned the medal on Simon's head, who was quite flattered. He touched the heavy medal on his chest, a blush of excitement mixed with nervousness spreading across his face.
“Your extraordinary achievements are a testament to the values of the St. Anilov Foundation, and on behalf of the new inspection team, I acknowledge your talent and potential as a member of it.”
"Thank you, Lord."
Lord Arthur observed his reaction with satisfaction, then turned to Lin An and produced a medal in the same manner.
"And you, my friend from a foreign land..."
His fingers had barely touched Lin An when the latter dodged them.
"Lord, may I forgo the medal and accept another reward instead?"
"I insist that you accept it. This medal represents the Dawn Society's heartfelt congratulations to an outstanding employee. May you continue to fulfill your duties with kindness and integrity, uphold the Foundation's values, and make the world a better place."
"You flatter me, Lord. I don't consider myself a role model for the company," Lin An said, waving his hands repeatedly.
"Mr. Lin, your outstanding performance in the mission is enough to prove that you are one of the most outstanding employees of St. Anilov in the past two years!"
"Speaking of missions, I recall the past. On the day our team encountered the Dawn Association, the gentlemen of the Dawn Association had clearly been lying in wait at the New Mexico branch, yet they did not stop Deacon Ruben from taking me and another team member away."
These words froze Lord Arthur's smile.
"Then, the elder had two knights follow us." Lin An said, feigning confusion. "The Dawn Association was really prescient. If my companion and I had died at the hands of Deacon Ruben, this number of replacements would have been a perfect match."
As expected of the Lion Kingdom organization, they have always been inhuman when it comes to being inhuman.
"What a terrible conjecture you're making!" Lord Arthur glanced at the thoughtful Simon and quickly interrupted, "How else can we possibly commend your achievements, Mr. Lin?"
"I want to buy it for free from the research department at headquarters."
"Understood, your suggestion is being actively considered."
Lord Arthur sat back in his office chair and cleared his throat.
“You are no strangers to the new policy that the Dawn Association is about to issue, after all, we have had several contacts before. I have also sent a copy of the draft to your email.”
Lin An had just finished reading the lengthy and tedious contents of the bill. In general, it went against Joshua's approach, normalizing the awakening of mysticism and the control of "Comers" energy, and formulating a comprehensive set of laws based on the fact that most people in a society are mystics.
"Such a massive disaster has occurred in San Francisco, affecting more than a million people. Even the government would find it difficult to suppress media coverage. Sooner or later, the public would have to know about the arrival of 'Comers.' It would be better to educate them in advance to avoid unnecessary panic and conspiracy theories."
At this point, Lord Arthur paused slightly and beckoned to his secretary beside him.
"That reminds me, Robin. Contact Hollywood producers and make an educational film about 'Commerx' based on the collapse of the Golden Gate Bridge."
“I am not Robin, Lord,” the secretary said, recording his itinerary on a tablet. “Are you copying Pacific Rim?”
“Oh, I thought I was the original author.” Lord Arthur took a sip of his tea. “You guys are okay with this part, right?”
"I want to know when I can collect my reward," Lin An said.
"Ahem..." Simon tried to smooth things over. "Lord, I don't object to the Dawn Society's proposal, but the 'Comers' law is extremely dangerous; a slight misstep could lead to death. Once it spreads widely, how will you control the pollution levels among the public?"
“Good question, Mr. Lloyd. Before answering, I want to make sure you know this concept. About 80% of the world’s population will attract the mediums of the god of agriculture and the god of the earth. The former are people whose moral level is above average, and the latter are people whose moral level is below average.”
“Statistics show that the Lord of the Earth and the God of Agriculture do indeed make up the majority of the awakened ones, especially among the free mystics,” Simon pondered. “What does this have to do with the level of pollution?”
"Generally speaking, these two media can remain safe as long as people live normally."
Simon said in surprise, "But the contamination levels of those mysterious beings we control always increase little by little, never decrease."
"The reason why these people have such high levels of contamination is that they have been locked up in isolation rooms, far away from people, and their thinking has become increasingly detached from normal, which makes it impossible for them to suppress the contamination."
"what happened?"
"Let's talk about the God of Agriculture first. Their way of maintaining the pollution level is to 'help,' so they have to work. You see, there aren't any cases of employees of the God of Agriculture Foundation dying from pollution, right? That's because they're all working hard!"
"..."
Lin An's eyes widened.
What a tragic fate for working people!
"As for the 'Lord of the Earth,' all that's needed is to understand the mysterious archetype and maintain their original way of life." Lord Arthur spread his hands. "In other words, what these two mediums need is not imprisonment, but appeasement, popular science, education, and then assigning them a job."
After a brief silence, Simon asked, "What about the other nine media?"
“This is the main point of this meeting,” Lord Arthur tapped his fingers on the table. “You’re all familiar with the recent murders in Dietrich, aren’t you?”
“The Ghost of Alpha-002.” Simon’s tone was deep, and Lin An’s eyelids twitched.
"The new policy will first be implemented in San Francisco, and then revised based on public opinion, striving to create a method suitable for the new era and for dealing with 'Comers'," Lord Arthur said with difficulty. "It will inevitably have to be rolled out nationwide, and before that..."
“Any obstacle that endangers society must be removed,” Simon said, implying, “whether it’s a ghost or a witch.”
"Before that, when can I go to the research department to choose my award?" Lin An said mercilessly, "and how can we reduce pollution from the other nine media?"
“Mr. Lin, your attention is always so sharp. I fully respect your right to ask any questions. We will inform you as soon as we have any further developments.”
Are you just passing the buck?
Unable to figure out the Dawn Association's background, Lin An did not press the matter further.
The initial guess is that the Dawn Association plans to use this information as a reward, putting it into the exchange system to incentivize work in other media.
Lin An also did not believe that reducing the pollution of the "God of Agriculture" was limited to those who worked honestly and law-abiding jobs; otherwise, unemployed people like Sister Rat would have been polluted to death long ago.
It can only be confirmed that the medium is related to the concept of "helping".
The "Lord of the Earth" should maintain his original intention and live in familiar "groups and environments".
So far, the Dawn Association's policies have been much more moderate, rational, and thoughtful than those of the extreme oversight groups. Some concealment and manipulation are also aimed at stabilizing public sentiment and smoothing out social unrest as much as possible.
Moreover, unlike the local tycoon-backed inspection teams, the Dawn Association is interfering in the internal affairs of the United Kingdom and is considered an "ambassadorial advisor." Lin An believes that the government knows better than him how to manage the country in the future.
When dealing with the mysterious, the Dawn Society neither randomly captures people for sacrifice like Jericho, nor holds daily "Hunger Games" like Joshua.
Their privileges, allowances, and compensations were not neglected. The Dawn Association also allowed conscious mystics to contact ordinary people, even if the person had undergone mutations due to the level of contamination.
For example, even a captain with wings can now walk into a coffee shop.
He forged a Philosopher's Stone, inadvertently saving all the mysterious figures in the Eagle Nation. Lin An thought, "Forget about Pacific Rim 3, hurry up and make a movie about Captain America based on me!"
Seeing Lin An remain silent, the lord decisively ended the meeting.
"If the two gentlemen have no questions..."
"Wait a minute, my dear lord."
Under the lord's resentful gaze, Lin An spoke rapidly.
"Please approve my request to select an award from the research department now. After all, I am such an outstanding employee of the foundation."
