Chapter 19 Fantasy
Dealing with disorderly individuals is quite troublesome; they cannot be easily killed or buried. Usually, investigators prefer to put them into special solvents to make specimens.
"So, do you feel what makes you special?"
"I didn't feel anything was special, I just felt unlucky."
"Don't say that. Look, you've met me, haven't you? As a doctor, I will do my best to treat you until you are fully recovered, then you can erase your memories, leave the Keeper of Secrets, and return to a normal life."
Has anyone actually been cured?
Is it really possible for someone to return to normal?
Lia asked the question seriously, and then walked towards her residence without waiting for a reply.
Watching his retreating figure, James was not offended by Ria's words. He forced a smile behind his mask, the lenses of the bird-beak mask reflecting a cold light. He smiled and waved goodbye to Ria, watching his figure disappear completely from sight.
The next second, he lowered his hand again, letting his arm hang down naturally.
"Of course it can be cured. I'll bet my reputation as a doctor that every patient will receive the best medical care."
"To eliminate the suffering of illness from the world—that is the mission of doctors."
The bird-beak doctor's voice was deep and hoarse, and the eerie aura emanating from him made people around him keep their distance. In the bustling street, a vacuum circle appeared around the doctor, and no one dared to approach.
It's night again.
Lia lay on the bed, unable to sleep. He stretched out his palm and looked at it again and again. Several golden lights flickered above it like fireflies, but those things were not as beautiful as fireflies at all. They were visual organs that grew all over his body.
"Snapped!"
He found a piece of cloth, bit it tightly with his teeth, and then used his fingers to forcefully pop out one of the eyes.
A sharp pain shot through him instantly, causing cold sweat to break out on Daria's forehead. He lowered his finger and saw that the spot where he had pinched had become covered with countless tiny eyeballs, like yellow fish eggs leaking out of a broken fish roe.
His current demeanor is completely unlike his calm demeanor during the day—no one could remain calm after witnessing this.
Lia could only be thankful that he didn't have trypophobia, otherwise he would have gone crazy right now.
"How long can I keep fooling myself into thinking this is a dream?"
He closed those eyes to avoid seeing them and began to shift his attention to other things in his mind. Somehow, he suddenly thought of the image of the sun during the day.
"Having a faith can indeed bring peace of mind; if you have insomnia, try theology instead."
"Radiant Sun"
A newly emerged star in the land of life and death... the very center that all things seek in their cycle of existence.
Using flames to sever the line between day and night, I wait in an endless place.
Singing praises to the rising sun... Offering tributes to the rising sun... Becoming the rising sun...
He began to chant the invocation of the rising sun in his mind, and it must be said that this method was indeed effective. In just a few minutes, he completely forgot about his troubles and fell into a deep sleep.
……
"Hey, hey! What are you daydreaming about! Sleeping on the job? Don't you care about your performance? Is this the kind of service your big company provides?!"
In a daze, Ria heard the customer cursing at him again. He opened his eyes and for the first time felt that the other person's face was so kind and friendly. He almost wished that the other person would curse him a few more times.
"Sorry, I was too tired and fell asleep. Let's continue talking about the company's investments."
His reactions were incredibly quick, his performance exceptional; his words and actions perfectly embodied the image the client desired, and soon he had the client beaming with delight, signing various agreements that he believed were advantageous to him. Two hours.
Finally, the client left.
Watching the other person leave, Ria went from the sofa to the mirror. The reflection showed her as she was, with her body intact, no extra eyes, and no excruciating pain.
"It turns out that everything before was a dream. I'm perfectly fine. There's no such thing as a terminal illness."
He straightened his collar in front of the mirror, then went out satisfied. The sun was shining brightly overhead, the streets were lined with shady trees, and every pedestrian wore a contented smile.
……
"Ow!"
In the darkness, Little Swarth struggled to crawl out of Ria's body. Seeing his peaceful sleeping face, he crawled to his side on all fours, shook his feathers, and then pulled off the blankets and collapsed onto the bed like a pancake.
Although it didn't understand how the host's emotions stabilized, it knew that stabilization was the key to everything. Negative emotions would accelerate the host's deterioration, and it didn't want to see that day happen.
The host is like its parent.
Children care about their parents the most.
It cares most about Ria.
It just can't speak, and it can't let the other person feel how much it likes or admires him.
Little Swarth lay beside Ria until dawn. The first rays of sunlight shone into the room again, and the dust motes stirred in the sunlight. Little Swarth stretched and watched as his host opened his eyes.
When Ria opened his eyes, he felt a little confused, but he quickly raised his arm to cover the upper half of his face: "I was dreaming again."
I don't know which side he's referring to.
"Ouch." Little Swarth bit his arm, tearing a wound that ran from his wrist to his elbow, indicating that this was not a dream.
A huge eye split open on his arm.
Ria was unusually awake early in the morning. He grabbed the head of the mythical creature next to him and spun it 720 degrees. But the mythical creature did not die so easily. Its head hung on its body and swayed back and forth with only a skin attached to it, as if it was happy that its host was up early to amuse it.
"Don't be happy, come with me to make bread."
He grabbed Little Swarth's head and shook it, seeing it automatically return to its original form. Then, it flapped its wings and flew to the ground, following Ria closely as she ran out of the room. Just before leaving, it leaped and burrowed back into Ria's body.
"Good morning, Aunt Ster. You look even younger today. From behind, you look like a thirty-year-old woman."
"Oh sun, Kelcha, why are you so sweet-talking first thing in the morning?"
Mrs. Ster smiled and handed him a freshly baked loaf of black bread, gesturing for him to place it on a plate on the table by the door, where, as usual, a crowd had gathered.
When Ria returned last night, Mrs. Ster looked him up and down at his new clothes. Ria explained that he had saved up money for a long time just to buy himself a new outfit.
It's unclear how much of the lie she believed, but she didn't ask any further questions. Instead, she praised Zaria for looking quite handsome.
At that moment, Ria genuinely felt that Mrs. Ster was a truly good person.
Even just to repay her kindness, Ria would work hard to increase the bread stand's profits.
