Chapter 144 Mysterious Death

Chapter 144 Mysterious Death
“Ms. Bren…” Ria seized on a key point, “You know her so well that you can recognize her even with her face covered?”

"That's a completely unnecessary question, child. Given Ms. Brin's unusual physical condition, no one would fail to recognize her."

What are her distinguishing features?

She has no fingers on one hand.

"Is it completely missing?"

"Yes."

After receiving an affirmative answer, Ria asked the other party a few simple questions, such as where Ms. Brin lived and whether she was often home.

"What do you want to do?!" The priest immediately became alert. Ria looked kind, his fingers rubbing the hilt of the knife in his pocket. After a moment, he patted the priest on the shoulder and produced a Schwarz coin from it.

The pastor took the coin, a hint of struggle on his face.

"Her residence is located at..."

Over the next few days, the pastor told Ria about the other person's address in detail, and Ria left the church without hesitation to go to the place the pastor had mentioned.

It was quite close to the church, just two streets to the right after leaving the church, and Ria found the building without much trouble.

A square sign hangs in front of the homeowner's building, with the words "Home of Love" written above it. Standing in front of the door, you can clearly hear the sounds of animals coming from inside.

It seems that this woman, Brin, is an animal lover. There are also beautiful potted plants on both sides of her door, which are neatly trimmed and look very pleasing to the eye.

However, what's strange is that they're too neat; their backs are completely flat against the wall, as if a potted plant had been forcibly cut off along a plane.

Ria tried to move the potted plant a few times with her cane, and a thin, white object fell out, making a soft "thud" when it hit the ground.

The black tentacles coiled around it, but before it could be brought to its eyes for a closer look, the door was suddenly opened.

The person who opened the door was a young and beautiful girl with curly blonde hair and striking blue eyes that were particularly captivating in the sunlight.

"Hello, what's up?"

"I've come to see Ms. Brin."

“Puren? That’s me.”

“But I heard that Brin is a lady who lost a finger. If that’s true, then your situation is very sad, madam.”

"Haha, you're a bit strange, but your manners make me feel completely at ease."

Brin stretched out her hand, which had no fingers, but she didn't seem to think it was a big deal, as if she had already gotten used to her disability.

"So, sir, is there anything else? If not, you're welcome to come in and have a seat. I'm sure a young and handsome gentleman wouldn't refuse a lady's request—"

"I have the honor of inviting you for a cup of tea, don't you think?"

"of course."

Ria walked into the house without hesitation. Brin invited him into the living room and quickly got up to find a kettle. There were many cats and dogs there, and they excitedly surrounded Ria when they saw him.

Then Little Swarth made a sound similar to a feline hiss, and the animals froze in place.

Only then did Ria pick up the white object and examine it closely.

He compared them on his finger joints and concluded that the lengths were almost identical.

It was clearly a finger bone. Moreover, the bone had a fishy smell and a pale yellow color that hadn't completely faded.

"Is this a bone from a bone that was recently shaved?"

Lia casually tossed the bone on the ground, and a dog immediately caught it, crunched it to pieces, and swallowed it.

If Pudding is an imposter, then she must have cut off her own finger to impersonate the previous person, and then cleaned it up in some way. The reason she didn't feed it to the animals might be that she was hoping to get the finger back after she had managed to get away with it.

So the question is, where did the original Ms. Brin go?

"Could it be that I killed him?"

Ria thought of the group of cultists he had pierced with his tentacles. He didn't have the time to check if anyone was missing a finger, a tooth, or any other body part.

Just as he was deep in thought, a steaming cup of black tea was brought to the table, and the imposter, Pudding, picked up an orange cat and sat on the sofa opposite him, behaving very enthusiastically.

Lia still wore that same gentle smile, even with a hint of helplessness as if looking at a child: "Thank you. Are you all alone in this house?"

Brin nodded, placed the cat on her lap, and reached out to brush her hair back a few times. She deliberately tucked her blonde hair behind her ears to reveal her fair neck, a gesture that often captivated the eyes of naive young men.

Ria picked up his teacup, and Brin kept a close eye on his movements.

The young man blew on his breath and looked at the beautiful woman across from him through the steam: "Your face is very beautiful, like it was painted on."

As soon as she finished speaking, as if realizing it was inappropriate, Ria leaned forward: "It can be even more beautiful—"

"Snapped!!!"

Before she could finish speaking, Lia slammed the teacup down on the other person's face. The scalding tea made the person scream, and the teacup was thrown to the ground and shattered.

Now, the fake Pudding's face was ruined, revealing a blank face.

Clearly, this is yet another cult member wearing a white mask.

"Knowing I would come here to investigate, you even arranged for people to guard the place. I'm really sorry to have troubled you. Wouldn't it be better to use that kind of perseverance to trade stocks?"

The woman, cat, and dog inside the house all screamed wildly. They ran around, then abruptly stopped moving at some point. All the creatures had lost their faces, except for Ria.

The room is now quiet again, the only sound being the "splashing" of tea dripping down someone's face.

"The owner of this house went to church, oh, let's judge her by the owner's name for now. She was misled into becoming a believer and sending notes to the clown. Something's consciousness even changed her voice..."

You managed to get me to see the note through the clown, and then tried to turn the clown into one of your own. It all seems like it was just something you did on a whim, but it has to be said that everything you did had your own purpose.

As it turns out, I was right. The idiots weren't truly idiots; your real leader was hiding behind the scenes, manipulating everything and using your lives as toys.

"He wouldn't happen to have the crow meme too, would he...?"

As they talked, Ria noticed that the woman and animals opposite her were just keeping their eyes open, without any reaction.

Somewhat puzzled, he stepped forward and poked the woman's stomach with his cane. The woman immediately collapsed to the ground, lifeless.

All the animals did the same; it was clear they had committed suicide without Ria's knowledge, and all of this instantly made Ria's heart turn violent.

He's now having a worse experience than punching cotton.
