Chapter 126 The Newborn Baby

Chapter 126 The Newborn Baby

"What a bunch of damned bastards."

James said fiercely, while Ria nodded repeatedly: "I agree."

"correct."

The obese doctor suddenly remembered something: "We happen to be in South Adeline now, where there's a branch of the Keepers of the Secrets. How about I show you around?"

"Aren't you afraid I'll report you?"

"Are you kidding me? Do you really want to replace me and find such a neurotic, useless doctor?" As he spoke, James pointed his thumb at Bruna and let out a disdainful laugh.

"That guy is a quack doctor. There's no good in dealing with him. Let me take you to the branch office for a look around. We can also discuss your choice of Meme Seven."

"How come you were promoted so quickly? Didn't you just get your Black Market license not long ago? ...A terrifying speed of transformation."

Honestly, Kelcha, if you keep going at this rate, in the end, you can completely recover and become a normal person.

"You have such a nice way of speaking. Well then, wish me a speedy recovery."

Ria continued sipping his black tea, and after a moment, he looked at little Swarth who had followed him to his feet.

How Little Swarth's consciousness came about is unimportant; as long as this mythical creature is useful, that's enough.

It was much larger than it is now at first, and I don't know why it can't return to its original size. If the mythical creature could maintain the size it had when it first met Garn when they were fighting him, it probably could have turned his group of consciousness carriers to dust with a single claw.

"Goo?" Little Swarth tilted its head 180 degrees upside down to look at Ria, not understanding what Ria and everyone else's gaze meant to it.

What evil intentions could it possibly have? It's just a mythical creature, and no one's will can affect it except its own host.

Ria is the best host and the best parent in the world.

As it was thinking, it flew to Ria’s shoulder, its claws wrapped tightly around his head, and in front of everyone, it transformed into tentacles and burrowed into his flesh.

The people present had developed a certain immunity to bloody things, but they still felt more or less uncomfortable after seeing this scene.

Ria put the bird-beak mask back on to cover her injured face, a sight that surprised James.

He stared at Ria for a long time and commented, "If you wanted to impersonate the plague doctor, you've been incredibly successful in appearance. Look how much we look like colleagues now."

"But psychologically speaking, I loathe everyone except myself who dresses like that, especially patients. Can you imagine a psychiatrist seeing a mental patient running around in a doctor's coat?"

Ria: "I completely understand how you feel, Doctor. What you've been through is heartbreaking... but keep it to yourself, or I'll report you to your superiors."

"Pfft—" Bruna couldn't help but laugh out loud. James pointed his gun at him menacingly, while Ilint told them to behave themselves.

"Since we're already at the restaurant, why don't we have a meal together? Bruna will be paying today."

"Then give me a hundred servings of everything on the menu."

James pushed the two chairs together and plopped down on them. The poor chairs let out a "scream," and a few barely noticeable cracks appeared on the floor.

He banged on the table without any politeness. Of course, Bruna wouldn't pay for it; the final cost of the meal would be deducted from his salary.

That means paying for it yourself.

James was particularly stingy when it came to spending his own money. He ordered the cheapest meat on the menu and brought the plate to him. It contained a boiled beef spine that was almost half a person tall, and James was too lazy to carefully remove the meat from it. He simply broke the bone into pieces and stuffed it into his mask, which made Ria somewhat reluctant to mention that she knew him.

After everyone finished their meal, Ria said a brief goodbye to Ilint and Bruna, and then headed to the Guardian's branch with James.

As Ria walked down the streets of Zolamu, he still felt a little unreal. He knew that the supernatural creatures here no longer posed much of a threat, and the curse should soon disappear.

But it seems they all forgot a crucial point.

Ria stopped and looked at his reflection in the transparent shop glass on one side. He was dressed as a plague doctor, wearing a bird-beak mask, a black top hat, and leaning on a cane. He didn't look special at all.

But Ria knew the horrific scene behind the mask; it was all Garn's doing.

Garn is an almost unsolvable being; he can descend in the form of any believer, and those who see his image will be corrupted and affected.

He is a patient, and the main model is an idiot, which should be more than that.

Ria didn't know the other party's specific meme code. Logically speaking, the main meme's ability would increase with the increase of the code number. He didn't think the other party would be so willing to give up the Zolamu Street he had arranged for so long and just leave like that.

"I vaguely remember that there was another rumor that... the population of Zolam Street was always constant, and when someone died, a newborn child would be born, regardless of whether the child had a mother or not."

As he was thinking this, he seemed to hear a strange noise. He quickly turned around alertly to find the source of the noise.

It was a stinking ditch, which seemed completely unrelated to a newborn, but a baby did indeed appear nearby.

The baby looked to be very young, with purplish-red skin, no swaddling clothes, and no one to care for it.

It lay curled up on its side where maggots crawled, while flies eyed it intently, carefully rubbing their two thin legs against its body and occasionally brushing against their heads.

Its blood-stained umbilical cord was completely rotten and smelly.

Such a pitiful child, surely no one could bear to see it suffer in this place.

Ria walked over, leaning on his cane. He lowered his head, and the baby, as if sensing something, turned its head to "look" at him...

This child has no eyes, no nose, and no mouth.

Nothing at all.

Suddenly, it burst into laughter. The child reached out and crushed the maggots in his palm, then waved his small fist at Ria.

"Praise be to the Faceless Trader, and may you have a wonderful time!"

"Snapped!!!"

Without any warning, Ria reached out her cane and smashed the head of the faceless child, then flung its body into the ditch, where it sank to the bottom.

"You persistent ghost, since you so admire your fabricated fusion faith, why don't you die for Him now?"

Lia disgustedly flicked the blood off her cane and turned to leave.

The problems here are still serious, but it's impossible for Ria to solve everything by herself, otherwise those members of the Order Association could retire early.

The white-masked men seem to be brewing a bigger conspiracy, and this is their long-prepared home ground; they shouldn't linger here.
