Chapter 117 Poker Game
Chapter 117 Poker Game
Rats came running from all directions. There were seven fewer of them than yesterday. Ria bent down, took off her hat, and put the brim of the hat on the ground so that the rats could climb up the brim and into the hat.
He didn't only have one set of clothes; these items, including hats, were usually stored by Little Swarth.
A magician can't do without a hat. For Ria, half of his performance preparation relies on hats. Without a hat, he has to prepare the show all over again.
Therefore, the hat itself is a very important prop.
After waiting for the last mouse to enter the brim, Lia lifted the hat up and, as if to show off, swung the inside of the hat forward. Then, he lightly pulled it down, and when he lifted it again, a half-grown tortoiseshell cat appeared under the hat.
Ria had it stand guard outside the tent as a greeter, and also left it a bowl of food, telling it not to run around.
"Meow!" The tortoiseshell cat gently wagged its tail twice, looked up at Ria and wanted to rub against him, but as soon as it got close, an almost terrifying fear from its very bones made it obediently squat on the ground, not daring to move at all.
It saw a palm-sized black face appear on the youth's face, with two round, golden eyes staring at it intently.
"Meow..." The tortoiseshell cat stopped moving around randomly and instead sat quietly in place, its body upright, like a statue.
The tent had already been set up.
Lia quickly inspected the inside and found that the space was much more spacious than it appeared from the outside; it should be able to fit several hundred people without any problem.
He was already quite satisfied. After all, today was just a magic trick, not a circus act with a high-altitude fall. He actually complained that the tent, which was more than ten stories high, took up too much space.
In the center of the tent is a circular platform with a self-illuminating lamp hanging from the top, while a series of semi-circular wooden steps of varying heights serve as seating for the audience.
It must be said that the gift from the rising sun was perfect, giving Ria a rare sense of warmth. He put his hat back on his head and looked at the crowd that had gathered around out of curiosity, welcoming them.
"Is this a magic show today? You even set up a tent?" someone asked as they approached.
Ria: "Actually, Miss, I'm the only one performing, since my companions aren't human."
"Why don't you come and take a look? All you need is one Schwarz, and if you don't like it, we can give you your money back."
"Of course I'm coming to see it! I saw your performance yesterday, and I was so excited that my whole family couldn't get a good night's sleep."
The woman took a swain from her pocket, and the cat on the ground patted the ground with its paw. She immediately understood and put the swain on the ground.
A moment later, she reached into her pocket again, pulled out a handful of coins, put them there, petted the cat several times, and excitedly went into the tent.
Once there was a first, there was a second. Gradually, a long queue formed in front of Lia's tent, and the cats on the ground changed from tortoiseshell cats to white cats, and then from white cats to orange cats.
They need to take turns, otherwise being touched indefinitely isn't a solution.
Looking at the seemingly endless line behind them, Ria couldn't help but worry whether the tent could fit so many people.
Fortunately, the number of people eventually reached a balance, and they rushed into the tent and found places to sit down, leaving more than twenty seats available.
For a moment, the tent was bustling and somewhat stuffy. Ria decided to lift the top of the tent a little to let in some air and light. He found the rope used to control the roof, pulled it back a few times, and then stepped out of the tent to wait another five minutes before starting the performance.
Just then, four people came running from a distance. The leader of them was a rather tall and burly man with a protruding chin, which made a particularly strong impression. I recognized the men behind him; they were the investigators who had questioned the Zolamu incident at the library.
Perhaps they wanted to conceal their identities, so they deliberately removed the double gears from their clothes. When they came to Ria, the leader looked him up and down a few times. Ria remained unmoved and silently pointed to the cat on the ground, which was surrounded by piles of Swarth.
"Sir, the admission fee is one Schwarz..."
Before he could finish speaking, the man suddenly threw a handful of money into the pile and said to keep the change, then went straight into the house.
Judging from the man's appearance, he was in a high position within the Order Association and didn't seem to care much about Ria. Rather, it was as if they were there to close the net.
Ria roughly understood the Order Association's intentions, but didn't want to get involved for the time being. After all, dealing with the White Mask Church would be easier with the help of the investigators.
At that moment, he looked at the coins piled up on the ground, almost like a small mountain, and at the junction of his glove and cuff, an eye slowly closed.
"The deal is done. Everyone is welcome to witness the consequences of trying to get a bargain."
Ria put all the money away, stuffed the cat and its empty bowl into the hat, and put the hat on her head.
He turned and walked into the tent, leaning on his cane. As he entered, he casually closed the tent flap, and the remaining light went out, leaving everyone in a dimly lit environment. They turned to look at Ria.
"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to my magic show. Now—witness the birth of a miracle!"
As he spoke, Ria tipped his hat to everyone, and when he put the top hat back on his head, with a "bang," he vanished from the spot, leaving only his hat floating leisurely down from mid-air.
Meanwhile, Ria was already in the center of the stage inside the tent. He waved his hand at his hat, which flew away on its own in front of everyone until Ria hooked it with his cane, grabbed the brim, and held it in his hand, showing that it was empty inside.
The audience immediately burst into applause, and then saw the person on stage holding a deck of cards. After shuffling the cards several times, he drew one card and randomly selected an audience member to guess the card.
"I guess... the eight of diamonds?"
"bingo!"
Ria turned over the card, which was a black eight of diamonds. He then handed the card to the audience, who immediately noticed that the card was now blank and that something seemed to have appeared in their pocket.
He quickly checked his pockets and was surprised to find an extra crumpled piece of paper inside, which contained eight Schwarz coins!
"This, this—" The audience member was speechless with astonishment. He looked at Ria and felt that Ria must be someone who knew magic.
"This is incredible."
After the spectator received the money, the nearby spectators instantly erupted in excitement, wanting to try their hand at this card-guessing game as well.
