Chapter 102 The White-Masked Church
Chapter 102 The White-Masked Church
After thinking it over, Ria pressed his temples a few times to relieve the pain. He withdrew his hand, and Little Swarth, who was inside his hat, extended his tentacles to continue pressing for him.
“If you don’t want to see me lying here motionless, don’t stick your tentacles into my brain, Schwarz.”
"Ow."
Little Swarth paused, abandoning the idea of performing a temple puncture on Ria. It lay quietly on the young man's head and soon followed its host back to the library.
The library, with its predominantly brownish-red color scheme, has a vintage feel, and its long corridors of books seem to stretch on and on.
Of course, we also have to thank the architect for his "genius" design; no normal person would think of adding a whole mirror to the wall of a library.
Although the wall with the added mirror is only the east wall on the first floor, it still adds a considerable amount of visible space to the library.
"How was the breakfast?" As Ria passed by Ilint, she took her "librarian" badge from the table and put it on neatly.
Ilint remained silent, her head bowed as if she were asleep. However, she was not asleep; she was simply too weak to respond to sounds promptly.
“Little Ria, you’re back. I left you some food…” Ilint looked up, reached under the table and touched something, then suddenly looked puzzled.
She seems to have run out of food, which is strange.
Ria sensed something was very wrong with her. There was something black, like blood, left at the corner of the old man's mouth, and his face was deathly pale, even more terrifying and eerie than when he first came into this world.
She's becoming more and more like a dried-up corpse.
Ilint rummaged under the table for a few more moments, then raised her hand and suddenly smiled very kindly: "Found it, hurry up and try it while it's fresh."
Her hands were empty; she simply kept holding the paper bag and casually placed it on the table, then took out a piece of air and handed it to Ria.
Ria reached out as if to take it, then "took" a bite and tasted it: "It tastes good."
"If you like it, that's good. If you like it, there are more here, take them all."
"it is good."
As she spoke, Ria made a "take" gesture, picked up the bag of air and put it in her bosom. After saying goodbye to Ilint, she began to look for the bird-beaked doctor who was reading a book.
Honestly, Ria suspected that Ilint was hallucinating; some kind of supernatural contamination often caused people to lose their sense of reality and illusion.
Old Ilint's condition could not be delayed any longer; she needed treatment. However, the only person who could save her was not planning to act now and remained as if waiting for the patient's death.
Within minutes, Lia successfully located the bird-beaked doctor, who was enjoying coffee, on the second floor of the library.
"Won't you have some of the food that Ms. Ilint gave us?"
As she spoke, Ria placed the bag of "food" on the table. The doctor glanced over and said, "You'd better not be joking with me. I will report your condition to James truthfully."
"How boring." Ria sat diagonally opposite the doctor and picked up something from the "paper bag" to "eat".
"I'm afraid I'm sorry to disappoint you, Doctor. James is already planning to play for the national team for Endlers, so he can't help me for the time being."
"Do you really believe his flimsy excuse?"
"So what if you don't believe it? James and Gro both think that studying medicine has no future. I suggest that Dr. Bruna, you should also take advantage of the fact that you still have time to think about your hobbies."
Bruner didn't speak. He put down his book and watched as Ria happily ate a handful of air.
Admittedly, Ria's imitation was remarkably lifelike; his movements even created the illusion of round, baked cookies. "Just say what you want to say, like...would you like to talk to me about old Hod's illness?"
"No, no, since you're so calm, doctor, let's put that illness aside for now. What I want to talk to you about is the [Rising Sun Blood Array]."
Ria put down her hand, tapped a few times on the table, and told Bruna a brief summary of what had happened not long ago.
Of course, some details about himself were omitted.
“Xu Ri told me that this kind of thing is related to zombies and moths. So, is the phantom I saw related to Zolamu Street? And I want to know who that person is.”
"..."
Bruner fell into a brief silence, his voice low and the air around him seemed to freeze: "You mean, you saw someone wearing a black robe and a white mask?"
"With just that brief glance, I felt my physical condition deteriorate rapidly, and my head was throbbing. I believe it was something extraordinary."
"It's definitely not ordinary, haha, a bunch of rather tricky things."
Bruner lowered his head, seemingly lost in thought for a moment.
"You should have heard of the underground church."
"I've heard of them. They are heretics who turn their backs on the Church of the Sun. They are a mixed group with all sorts of beliefs, but they are always considered a group that can't be brought into the open."
"This information is indeed accurate, but it also contains some troublesome and unconventional individuals..."
I'm talking about trouble and difficulty, not that they're unkillable, but even I don't want to run into that group of people.
They have a name: "White Masks."
"What exactly is so troublesome? It's hard for me to describe, because these people are both believers in God and non-believers in God. They like to suppress all kinds of churches, smash idols, and destroy churches. They've done all sorts of things."
They would disguise themselves as any believer and infiltrate the community, then commit countless blasphemous acts against God, destroying His idols in all sorts of ways and often graffitiing them.
On some whim, the white-masked men might even elect a member of their organization as a new god and worship him, performing a collective blood sacrifice.
Ria asked, puzzled, "Why would anyone do that?"
Although he, like those people, believed in freedom, at least he maintained a respectable public image, while those people dared to openly insult the divine.
The most crucial point is, how could the image of the man in black robes cause mental damage?
“This is the key point.” Bruner clasped his hands together and placed the bird’s beak in the center.
"From what I understand, they seem to have colluded with some sleeping deity, devoting themselves entirely to Him, and then creating chaos everywhere in the name of their followers."
"You might not understand what I'm saying, but to put it simply, these lunatics don't even know what they'll do next. The purpose of this organization is to do whatever they want, to have fun, and to prioritize chaos."
"Nobody knows what they're trying to do."
Why destroy the idols?
Because it's an eyesore, and because it's interesting and exciting.
Why do murderers pose people in strange positions?
Because of this, those who come to investigate will show expressions of fear.
