Chapter 647 Betrayer

Chapter 647 Betrayer

"A perverted murderer?"

Du Jing is the oldest resident in the community. She has lived in the building for many years and has never encountered such a situation.

Seeing that Du Jing was slow to react, Tang Hanlu struggled to get up and crawled to the door. After making sure that the security door was locked, she finally felt relieved.

"Grandma, don't go out. It's very dangerous in this building! Let's wait here for the police to come!"

Tang Hanlu's home is in this building, but she didn't feel the warmth of home in the building. The corridors on each floor scared her, as if this was not a residential building at all, but a huge morgue. It was only after she met Du Jing that she seemed to have found her own harbor.

The cozy decoration and warm light in the cottage were like a cup of hot tea in the cold winter, melting the frost on Tang Hanlu's body.

"Okay, we won't go out." Du Jing asked Tang Hanlu to sit on the sofa. She poured a drink and placed it on the coffee table: "Are you scared? Where are your family members?"

"My mother hasn't got off work yet. She has been very busy." Tang Hanlu picked up the drink on the table amid the envious gazes of those deformed children. She was feeling a little low. When she needed her family the most, her mother did not show up. The one who saved her was an elderly stranger in the building - Du Jing.

"I'm quite busy..." Du Jing turned her head and glanced at the clock on the wall. It was almost midnight.

The old man shook his head slightly, took out a thick coat from the room and put it on Tang Hanlu.

"Thank you." The sweetness of the drink soothed the fear in her heart. Tang Hanlu's eyes became moist and she suddenly felt like crying. It was not easy for her to run all the way here from the eighth floor.

"No need to say thank you. You look a lot like me when I was a kid." Du Jing touched Tang Hanlu's head. Her warm eyes seemed to be able to see directly into people's inner pain. "You can stay here as long as you want. No one will chase you away. You can treat this place as your home."

The strange-looking children at the table looked at Tang Hanlu curiously. They seemed to know that they looked a little scary, so they gathered on the other side of the table from a distance.

"You can't always shut yourself up, you have to try to get in touch with the outside world." Du Jing walked to the children helplessly: "The world outside this door is colorful. You have suffered too much. I hope you can live like ordinary children, enjoy your childhood, and give those residents who hurt you a chance to make amends."

The children were still sitting at the table, not moving around, and were very reserved. Instead, Tang Hanlu asked after hearing what Du Jing said, "Grandma, did you say that the residents in the building hurt these children?"

"Yes, each of these children has defects. I want to help them get used to normal life, but the previous building manager took the lead in opposing it and wanted to kick them out, saying that they were affecting everyone." Du Jing pondered for a long time: "The previous building manager's surname was Fu, arrogant and stubborn. The new building manager is easier to talk to. I remember his surname was Han, and he was a young man. As for his name... Weird, why can't I remember it?"

Du Jing pressed her temples. Whenever she overthinks, wrinkles appear on her face, and it’s obvious that she’s aged. “I’m getting old. I’m really getting less and less useful. You stay here first. I’ll go to the inner room to take some medicine.”

After the old man left, Tang Hanlu sat at the table and stared at the deformed children. After a while, a little girl approached timidly and placed a small boat made of old newspaper in front of her: "Here, play with it, it's fun..."

"Thank you." Tang Hanlu had no intention of making friends with those children at first. She came here just to seek refuge, but after getting along with them for a while, she found that although these children were ugly in appearance, their hearts were cleaner and purer than many people.

Du Jing didn't come out for a long time after taking the medicine, so Tang Hanlu took the children to play. She gradually became familiar with everyone. After learning that these children had no names but only their numbers, she gave everyone cute nicknames based on their personality characteristics.

Most of the children liked playing with Tang Hanlu, but there was an exception. There was a children's wheelchair parked near the window. A boy who had lost both legs and one eye was staring at Tang Hanlu coldly like a bystander.

His number was 0002. No matter how Tang Hanlu interacted with him, the child would only say one thing: "They will come back and find you. I hope you won't regret it then." Tang Hanlu was a little afraid of this child. It was an instinctive resistance. She deliberately avoided him, but the boy's eyes were always fixed on her.

The midnight bell rang, and along with it came the ringing of Tang Hanlu's mother's cell phone. It was her mother's colleague Li Xinchen calling.

"Is it my mother who is coming back to pick me up?" Tang Hanlu pushed the child who was still playing aside and answered the phone excitedly. The concerned and anxious voice of her mother that she had imagined did not appear. Instead, it was the man named Li Xinchen who gave a rude reminder.

"The criminal who kidnapped Afang has appeared! His target is number two! Tell me immediately, what is around you! Quick!"

"What are you talking about?" Tang Hanlu was a little disappointed. She thought it was her mother calling.

"We can't find you in the laboratory! Answer me! Which level of nightmare are you in now?" Li Xinchen's voice gradually became distorted, as if it was disturbed, and the phone was automatically hung up after a few seconds.

"Which level of nightmare?" Tang Hanlu's consciousness was a little dazed, and there seemed to be two different forces fighting around her.

The cell phone rang again, and this time it was number zero that called her mother, the number marked as ghost.

She answered the call subconsciously, and the lights in the room immediately began to dim. This time, Tang Hanlu clearly heard the hoarse voice coming from the phone - Go back to your room!

The voice carried murderous intent and a terrifying aura that did not allow any doubt. Du Jing's family was also affected. The originally warm atmosphere was broken, and bloodstains appeared on the walls.

The children began to cry and scream, some of them were having epileptic seizures. The situation was very critical. Du Jing, who had just finished taking medicine, hurried out of the bedroom. She picked up the sick child on the ground and said, "Oh no, oh no, we have to go to the hospital!"

"No, there's a killer outside!"

Blood spread in the house, cracks appeared, and the whole room began to become blurry. There was a force that seemed to want to drag Tang Hanlu out of here, while another force was desperately trying to stop it.

The door lock creaked and shook, and the two forces collided and finally the door of Du Jing's room was opened.

The young man outside the door lowered his head with a pale face, his palms stained with blood. "It can still affect me from such a distance. The Unspeakable is indeed stronger than the Dream Ghost."

"That perverted murderer is coming in!" Tang Hanlu screamed.

Du Jing, who was standing by, handed the sick child to Tang Hanlu and grabbed the mop: "You take the children away, I'll buy you some time!"

Du Jing wanted to use her own life to delay time. She rushed to the young man and hugged him tightly: "Run! Run with the children!"

The situation was critical. After Tang Hanlu reacted, she did not take any of the children with her. She took advantage of the moment when Du Jing was entangled with the young man and ran out the door alone.
